Because my lovely girlfriend Elaine is so good at her job, one of her
vendors
gave her 2 luxury box tickets for last Sunday's Giants/Packers game
at Giants Stadium.
We got there about 11:30AM.
We checked out the box and were greeted by our host, Brian. Brian does
sales at WFAN,
who owns the box. WFAN is THE all sports station in NYC. It was a little
early so I decided
to have a cup of coffee. Looking for the milk I opened the refrigerator.
I found a half pint of milk
and a whole bunch of beer.
There had to be 5 cases of beer and not room left for a Slim Jim. Since
we were there because
of the fine folks at Heineken, I thought it best to drink the 2 cases
of Heiney keg cans before the half.
After I woke up from fainting in front of the full fridge, I wandered
over to the buffet.
Mind you we had the box to ourselves at this point, about 45 mins.
before the game.
We had real hot dogs, boiled to a tee...delicious chile sauce, ribs,
garlic potatoes*,
cheesesteak subs, chips popcorn....it just kept coming. The only thing
missing was some Chinaco.
The Giants lost 37 to something but I hardly watched the game. I was
watching the
clock to see how many more chile dogs I could finish off. The chile
was fantastic.
There was so much free beer I was tossing half full glasses to go out
for a butt.
The box had 16 beautiful cushioned seats, a couch, two easy chairs and
4 barstools.
We had two TV's with satellite so we could watch any game in the league.
The glass on
the sliding front windows is so thick you couldn't even hear the PA
system or the crowd.
We'd open it up every once in a while and the difference of the crowd
noise was amazing.
We could have recorded a string quartet in there with the window closed.
Warm? I wore a t-shirt. The box held about 25 and at best there were
about 15 people there.
We had some friends in the stands and we called them and invited them
in for the second half.
The food kept coming. Corn on the cob....more ribs...more hotdogs.
The beer was in real cans.
I asked our host if he thought I could reach the field from there with
a can.
We agreed it would have to be a full one.
I was hoping for some WFAN bigshots to show up but none did.
I told Brian that if Imus walked in, I was out of there.
If you suck up to me for the next year, maybe...just maybe, I'll take
you to my private box.
For those of you with a Giants Stadium seating chart, we'll be in 238A.
Knock twice and ask for Rude Rich.
