Subject: bin Laden at Tora Bora

Thanks Bart, I thought I was the only one who remembered the Tora Bora truce.
I said that day that it was Bin Laden's ticket out, and that there was never any intent to catch him.
After all, Osama is a team player.

 Subject: understanding congress

There are those who question if Congress and President Bush inserted themselves into the death
of Terri Schiavo as a mere political stunt. This case, however, hits pretty close to home with a lot
of members' personal lives when it comes to withholding food from the brain dead.

That's an issue they relate to personally and something they worry about. If a judge can withhold
food and water for Terri Schiavo because she's brain dead - a judge could close the cafeterias in
the Congress and the Whitehouse as well for the same reason. Something to think about!

 Bart,

I read your site quite a bit, but I've never seen you make the argument that people oughtta
keep their religioun out of our politics.  I agree with you that religious insanity is ruining the nation,
but it seems like you just assume that argument as a given.

Here's a link to someone making the case that it's downright unpatriotic:

I think she nails it: whatever reasons you have for thinking the nutty things you do doesn't give you
a right to try to make me act like you want me to act or think what you think--that would be the very
antithesis of basic American values as embodied in the 1st amendment.  A warning--the post is long,
 about 2500 words I'd guess.

 Keep swinging that hammer!

I've noticed Bush gets the biggest smirk on his face when he says "Secretary Rumsfeld is doing a great a job."

The big smirk is also evident when he first introduces one of these losers.
I then know it is all a big joke- It's not like Jon Stewart says "he believes he's doing the right thing."

I am by no means well read on perkel post mind you. But, mix what he said with quick and painless

 Subject: Rove killing Jesus

 To the editor:

Two years ago, Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq to disarm it of weapons of mass destruction that have never been found.

"WWJD?" is a cliché used by Christians to guess what Jesus would do in a given circumstance. The first thing he might do
today is file a defamation of character lawsuit against those who abuse his name, using it to justify the Iraq war among other abominations.

If the Jesus story were lived out today, the U.S. would be the Roman Empire, the lone superpower believing itself superior
and anointed to set global order. Jesus would live in some conquered land, perhaps Iraq. We might even have rounded him up
along with other innocents and abused him in Abu Ghraib. You may have seen him in some of the pictures.

Some people pick Bible quotes out of context to claim that Jesus hates gays, approves war and thinks that welfare should be ended.
Anyone who reads the whole story, like any other biography, will come to an unmistakable conclusion: Jesus was for peace, forgiveness,
social justice, nonviolence, loving your enemies, taking care of the poor and underprivileged; he put his life on the line for all of this.

For the rulers of his time, Jesus threatened the status quo of their power. For that, he was killed. If Christians are not trying
to imitate Jesus today, they should not claim to be his followers. To allow our leaders to take us to war for a series of false
reasons is not following Jesus and makes us passive accomplices in this abomination that only lately attempted to mask itself
in promotion of freedom and democracy.

If you are for war and against social justice, maybe you shouldn’t call yourself Christian.
A more appropriate name would be neo-Pharisee.

Subject: Ward Churchill Wannabee - Proof

"Ward Churchill has been masquerading as an Indian for years behind his dark glasses and beaded headband.
He waves around an honorary membership card that at one time was issued to anyone by the Keetoowah Tribe
of Oklahoma.   Bill Clinton and many others received these cards, but these cards do not qualify the holder a
member of any tribe. He has deceitfully and treacherously fooled innocent and naïve Indian community members
in Denver, Colorado, as well as many other people worldwide. Churchill does not represent, nor does he speak
on behalf of the American Indian Movement."

This quote from the American Indian Movement web site.  Click for the whole page

Bart, I'm not sending this to rag on you or call you a bad person.  I just want to correct a misperception,
Churchill has fooled a lot of people.  A lot of people.  I don't really care if you acknowledge this online or not,
but you should be made aware of the fraud this man has perpetrated, for your own information.

I would also like to give you my opinion as a mixed-race person (of which American Indian is part of the mix)
and a member of the Pine River Inter-Tribal Association, that  to me,  Ward Churchill looks like a white guy with long hair.
 (Which he is)

 Peace  --Joe

I have no dog in this fight, to use an Okie phrase.
All I said is he has the face of an Indian, no matter what memberships he holds or doesn't hold.

I don't have a membership card proving I'm white, either.

Hey Bart, I try not to clog up your email with comments, but this "Slotnik" goob just drew me out.

 Subject: record industry

 Bart-

One quote in particular caught my eye in this bit: "It's stopping new artists from coming forward..."

What planet is this guy on?  I'm a record producer and a small label owner.  I know of at least 2-3 hundred people
who would love a chance to have their music bought by some and stolen by others.  This is an out-and-out baldfaced lie.

He's blaming their lazyness in promoting new and interesting sounds on the customers.  If people weren't coming forward
to be recording artists, how would American Idol even exist?  Americans will never stop chasing the spotlight, no matter
how unhealthy the recording industry's profit margins are.

I think Tommy Franks is an overrated blowhard, and a shameless self promoter like his

Franks knew damned well he'd get his ass kicked, just like the Russians did in the 70's,
so he took the chickenshit way out and sent some locals up there who looked the other way

Subject: I understand...

...why Bush was so eager to sign the legislation to keep feeding Terri Schiavo.
Bush was trying to save his own life. Think about it.

If a judge can order a hospital to stop feeding a woman in Florida because she hasn't
demonstrated any brain activity for fifteen years, just what exactly is to prevent some
activist judge from ordering the White House kitchen to stop feeding Bush?

If that sanctimonious weasel Jeb Bush is so "pro-life" why is he grandstanding about this case
while ignoring a totally preventable outrage that recently occured in Florida. I refer to the case
of the young girl abducted from her own bedroom and murdered by a convicted sexual predator
who happened to"fall through the cracks" of the criminal justice system.

The same criminal justice system that requires Martha Stewart to wear an electronic tracking device 24/7 ,

 Subject: Last waltz for greed-mongers

There's a visiting professor at McGill University (IIRC) who used to produce the Clash,
who has announced the next marketing model: Any song, any time, downloadable and burnable, for five cents.
There would be essentially no distribution costs for the record companies, and every copy burned would be pre-paid for.

My kids and I sat around at supper, talking about the stuff we would buy to listen to even once...

Public Enemy. Eminem. Everything Springsteen ever did.

 Green Day.

Absolutely all the Led Zep, Hendrix, Coltrane, Basie, Hoyt Axton...

 T-Bone.

A ton of old blues and jazz - ODJB, NORK, Smack Henderson, Isen Jones. Spike Jones.

Maybe all the Mozart, Beethoven and Bartok string quartets.

Tori Amos, Ani Defranco, Guy Clark.

And the Beethoven piano sonatas and concertos.

 And Bocephus.

stuff that you would never find in stores.

Stuff that you would never listen to twice.

Stuff you were just curious about: You see somebody's writing credit on a song you like,
you go and download twenty or thirty songs by him, to see if they're all good.
For a total cost of $2-3 buck a cd, I'd be buying music five times a week...

I don't know if it will ever happen, but they'd sure make a lot more money off me than they are now.
 BobMac

One needs to remember that record companies aren't in the music business any more than
FOX or CNN are in the news business - they are all in the money-generating business.
