Saw the transcript of your "debate" with that
dittomonkey. <Sigh>
That was a chimp even Jane Goodall couldn't love....
Anyway, I noticed you said you knew that Clinton
had done something to Welfare that the left hated, or
words to that effect. While I'm no expert,
I can tell you about the little bit that I do know. In 1996, Congress
passed the Welfare Reform Act. This act
cut the Welfare budget and imposed a time limit to collect benefits of
two years . It also provided the framework
for state-run "Welfare to Work" programs, which pushed people
into low-paying jobs before their two years were
up.
Why would Clinton do this? Well, probably
to appease the Republican-controlled congress. Also, since the
popular perception of Welfare recipients was
that of "Crack whores with 10 kids", it was (and still is) hard
for folks to feel sympathy for them.
This is an issue with which I have personal experience.
My family went on Welfare after my father went to jail.
Mom had been out of the workforce, raising us
kids (just like the right-wingers said she should). It was a rough
time.
I remember standing in line with Mom in the rain
to get some of that government cheese (you know, lard
and yellow dye). People would drive by
the folks in line and yell stuff at them, some would throw things.
It was pretty bewildering for me. I didn't
know what my mother had done to deserve being called those things.
As I got older and read the papers and watched
the news, I was consumed with anger at the people who dared
to pass judgement on our nation's poor.
I resolved that I would go to college, get a decent-paying job, and use
the money that I didn't need to survive to help
others. Now that I'm a few weeks from graduation, the economy
is in the toilet. But that s ok; I will be patient.
I will work to make sure that people who need help will get it,
without being shamed and ridiculed.
So you see, Bart, I have a personal interest in
seeing dittomonkeys smacked down.
Please don't give up; there's a lot of work to
do.
Thanks for your time,
Beth
Beth, thanks.
I must've been busy launching Rush
Limba- Lying Nazi Whore that week.
Sidebar:
This was our logo the first two years or
so, then we branched out to take on all nazis, not just the fat ones.
Thanks to Serdar for this - and I'm depending
on you for lots more sound clips, Dude.
Just one comment:
I like that government American cheese - I think it's the best.
I wish I could get some - maybe I qualify since I have no job :)
Before first grade, I helped in the kitchen of the Catholic POW camp
I was assigned to
and tearing into that gubment cheese was always fun for me.
But if you had a lot of it, I can understand why it's not your favorite.
