Dear Bartcop,
I sent this letter to CNN regarding their
coverage of the Texas Democrats who blocked the gerrymandering bill
by going to Oklahoma. I saw their
coverage on Lou Dobbs show (MoneyLine). Their coverage was biased.
Lou Dobbs is disingenuous. I needed
them to know that many Americans know the facts that they omit - that we
see them as biased reporters who have sold
out on their ideals. I am sending this to you in case you want to
print it.
I want the truth printed - that the Texas
Democrats were responding to political corruption (via a blatant GOP
attempt at gerrymandering).
My thanks.
Here is the letter:
Dear Mr. Dobbs,
I watched your program on CNN tonight
and saw the segment regarding the Democrats in the Texas state
legislature (they left the state and
went to Oklahoma). You had aired several letters from your viewers
regarding the issue - all of them critical
of the Democrats and their exodus.
As I have read from online sources,
these Democrats were responding to a blatant attempt at a biased
redistricting of the state's voting
districts - a redistricting that would land more seats to the GOP.
It was
a political manuever that was well thought
out and with direct, obvious political benefits. This redistricting
was sponsored by Texas state GOP officials
including Tom Craddick and Tom Delay. It would have effects
in both the state's legislature and
in The House of Representatives in Washington. The redistricting was so
blatant, so egriegious that one
could only view it as an overt, partisan attempt at gerrymandering.
Yet state
GOP legislators pushed the legislation
without any remorse. This fact was not mentioned by your viewers'
letters and you yourself failed to mention
this important point to give the scenario it's true perspective.
The deliberate attempt by Democrats
to block the required legislative quorum (by leaving the state)
was an attempt to block GOP corruption
and power mongering.
Even more disturbing than the GOP's
overt power grab, is the reported role of The Department of Homeland
Security in this debacle. Apparently
the state of Texas called Washington D.C. to resolve this issue (since
Texas
does not have authority to arrest these
Democrats - they are out of state and therefore out of Texas' jurisdiction).
Washington has apparently responded
by using the Department of Homeland Security to attempt to reign in these
wandering Texas Democrats. If
this is true (and it has been reported in reputable newspapers that this
did in fact
happen), then this constitutes a (further)
breach of power. Homeland Security was created NOT FOR INTERNAL
POLICING nor for politics. It
was created solely to provide security against terrorism. That Washington
used this
newly formed branch of government to
pursue members of the opposing political party indicates an abuse of power
so unbelievable that it staggers one
to believe that it could ever have happened in this country.
Sadly you reported none of this.
Journalism with intentional omission of facts is not journalism at all
- it is propaganda.
You appear to be a willing participant
in a deception.
Sincerely,
S*** F*****
