Hey Bart,
I say "heard" because here in DC we commuters
have the luxury of WCSP
90.1 FM Radio to make the morning drive more
tolerable.
Anyway, yesterday was surreal when a liberal,
anti-Bush caller's identity was revealed by the C-SPAN dude.
It was Cher, whose history of having voted
independently (e.g. for Perot in '92) defies the standard neocon rhetoric.
Today I learned about taxes for the rich.
Well, I got a glimpse and
then researched it here at work. I'm sure
you already know, but it's one
of those things we need to keep in mind when
the idiot Hannitys of this
world start moaning about tax rates:
-Herbert Hoover (R-Aloof) raised the highest income
tax bracket to 63%.
-Sure, FDR later raised it to 91% (with obviously
positive results),
BUT
-Ike (R-Opportunist) promised to lower that rate,
but reneged after defeating Stevenson.
-Not until LBJ was that rate lowered (ultimately
to 70%)
-Reagan lowered it to 50%, in his last year to
38%
-Clinton's rate was 39.6%
(all according to http://winke.com/wts/wts./histusrt.htm )
SO, a few questions should be *locked-and-loaded* in the minds of all us liberals:
When arguing with a neocon, ask:
"Which president levied the greatest increase
in the top bracket for personal income taxes?"
(Hoover - R)
"Which political party first introduced the idea
of fixing the budget by increasing income tax rates?"
(obvious)
"For thirty years the top bracket for personal
income taxes was 91%.
Who lowered that rate?"
(LBJ)
"What was the average top-bracket income tax percentage
during Reagan?"
(43.1%)
"What was the average top-bracket income tax percentage
during Clinton?"
Three and a half percentage points less!
Been real busy lately but will send CDs soon.
Keep hammering.
Phil
