Hey, Bart:
I'm sorry to be asking this, but I simply can't find a subscription option
that suits my needs.
I'm surprised, since one can subscribe to anything from $5 to $500 or more.
Remember, PayPal gets a cut, so going less than $5 may not be a good move.
So, I have been funky about subscribing, thinking of it as good money after
bad to build higher
a hammer that wants to be in the middle. I've also kept to myself that
the reason nobody's made
BartcopRadio a reality is because you're not counterpoint to rabid rightwingers--you're
just a moderate
democrat. There's tons of moderates all over the media--it's the closest
we get to liberal in the media.
If I'm not a counterpoint to rabid rightwingers, I'd sure enjoy reading
someone who is.
I think my positions are sensible and I'm ready to back each one up. People
to my left have failed
to come up with convincing arguments. If they could make their point better,
I might move left,
but I can't move left because there might be more money on the fringes.
"Just a moderate" is an odd perjorative coming from one who hasn't made
an argument for
me to accept or reject. The issues of mine you
have a problem with, why not confront me
and show me the error of my ways? Why not try to sell me on your
better plan?
But: I go to your site most days, and even though I strongly disagree with
your engenderment of
issues having nothing to do with gender,
Whoa!
What does that mean?
I tried to look up "engenderment," but Webster never heard of it, either.
If you want to take a shot at me for appreciating the opposite sex, maybe
you
could use smaller words with which I (and Webster's) am familiar.
...strongly disagree with the cult of Clinton as relates to today's political landscape,
Whoa! again - compared to whom?
Would you rather have the current Pretender than Bill Clinton?
Clinton was the best we've ever seen, and yes, he should've stayed faithful
to his wife,
but if you have a list of politicians who are as capable than Clinton,
but flawless,
I think I can speak for everyone when I say "Please show us that list!"
...and feel no need to contribute a dime to anyone moderate -- you're funny.
Between 98 and 99 percent of bartcop.com readers agree
with you.
(about the not contributing part - not the funny part)
And stuff you bring to my attention, albeit necessary to filter out the
sexism
and starstruck clinton worship, is good stuff.
I think your charge of sexism is more bogus than your "starstruck" charge.
Webster defines "sexism" as:
1: prejudice or discrimination based on sex; especially : discrimination
against women
2: behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of
social roles based on sex
You think you can make the case that I discriminate against women?
I don't think you can.
.
I don't even know how I could discriminate against women from my position,
unless you're
trying to claim I refuse to publish columns by female writers, or some
similar wrong assumption.
Perhaps "sexism" isn't the word you meant to use?
By the way, I was on the phone to my female Chief of Staff while writing
this.
She insisted I mention that she doesn't think I'm sexist.
Sure, once a month I might make a comment like "I'd like to marry Angie
Harmon for a weekend,"
which is just some silliness you ought to be able to get passed. When an
attractive woman walks by
in a short skirt I'm supposed to not notice? You think men should
abandone their sexuality?
(Your not one of those Nike-wearing Hale-Bobb Cometeers, are you?)
So, in the same spirit with which I subscribe to two public radio stations
in my area even though NPR
just axed an investigative reporter for another full time Cokie, I'd like
to contribute to your effort.
But I don't do this per month stuff. I got enough bills.
Please tell me the most direct way to contribute to your efforts without
having to pay a monthly fee
and I'll give you what my pubic radio stations get from me--even though
I rely upon them more heavily,
your niche is a lovely, strange place on the web.
Best,
K
K, I'm not angry, but maybe it would be best if you held onto that money
until
such a time when you're more comfortable with the writing on bartcop.com
But I'd sure enjoy a friendly debate with you on my "centrist" attitudes.
If I'm so much farther to the right than I should be, those distinctions
should be fairly easy to articulate.
I can back up anything on which I've taken a strong stand.
If you can do the same, it'll make for interesting some reading.
