Today is Veteran's Day. As a veteran myself, I
appreciate the genuine gratitude people often express.
I enlisted to test myself, and I went Airborne
to push further. It was my choice, and I’m proud to have made it.
But these young men coming up now may not get the opportunity to make that choice. It could very well be made for them.
I read an article linked on BuzzFlash (a site
2nd only to yours) that described why the draft may make a comeback.
Of course Bush won’t say anything of the sort
during an election year. Even he can’t be that stupid.
But he has quietly started the wheels turning...
draft boards are being re-staffed for the first time in decades.
We all know our current presence in Iraq is unsustainable,
and the chicken hawks know it too. They brought
a hidden agenda with them to the White House,
and we’d be foolish to believe that the brilliant minds that brought us
PNAC won’t restart the draft as a logical step.
If Bush is elected to a second term, we’re done for. I have no doubt
that young men will be getting their “greetings
letters” from the President.
As a vet, I don’t want to see my nephews and friends
sucked into the military, when it was all unnecessary from the start.
If they decide to go, I’ll be proud and send
them off with all my prayers. But I don’t want to see them forced into
it.
Bush lied us into war, and I don’t want anymore
men & women coming home in boxes because of it. I don’t want to
hear them play taps as someone I love is lowered
into the ground. We have to let people know that a vote for Bush
is a vote to send your son, or brother into a
war that was never needed for a president that was never elected.
Thanks for letting me spout.
