Steve Perry has been writing off and on for City
Pages for the better
part of two decades, always bashing Democrats.
Always.
Even (sometimes, especially) Paul Wellstone.
As he actually admitted a few weeks ago in a piece
he did on the
Wellstone memorial (where he repeated the same
Republican party line on it,
by the way -- that it was icky and nasty and
partisan), "gave up" on the
Democratic Party way back in 1968. (No,
not 1998 -- 1968.) Yes, he
stumped for Nader. No, he's not in the
least sorry.
Perry's one of those lefties who loves to repeat
right-wing spew, such
as his habit of referring to President and Senator
Clinton as "Billary."
Like his fellows on the far left, he always attacks
Democrats far harder
than he ever does Republicans -- and uses Republican
talking points to do so.
The whole thing about far-lefties is that, unlike
far-righties, the more extreme
they get, the LESS likely they are to vote. And
if they DO vote, they usually
waste their vote on no-hoper third-party candidates,
instead of voting for the
political party that stands the best chance of
giving them what they want.
Weird, but true. (It's why Nader got six
times as many votes as did
Buchanan in 2000.)
I lurk on several Socialist and Communist mailing
lists, and it's
grimly hilarious to watch them agonizing over
whether to vote for a
Communist, because the mere act of voting is
seen as giving legitimacy to the
very system they want to smash. (Apparently
it's because Marx or Lenin
or one of their other heroes advocated staying
out of traditional party
politics.) I also lurk at conservative watering
holes like FreeRepublic.com,
and you NEVER hear the extreme cons say anything
so patently stupid
and self-defeating.
Anyway, that's my two cents. I vented with
you because there's no way
in hell that CP will print my letter -- they've
already run one of mine
recently, for one thing. Hope your Turkey
Day was a good one!
