A Christian who reads Bartcop

 Bart,

I’ve been distressed to learn about former readers who “left” or “quit”Bartcop.com, especially after
finding out that their reasons for doing so are often over some perceived insult or offense in the site’s content.
I know that you get some fan mail and post some of it on the site but this support appears to be from those
who endorse the entire body of Bartcop opinion or at least most of it. I thought that you should hear from
someone who is an avid reader, supports your fight against the Bush and the Republicans and continues to
read despite disagreeing with a lot of your ideas, opinions, and rhetoric.

I read Bartcop even though I go to church every Sunday with my family to pray to the “cloud being.”
I <gasp> even teach my son to pray to the “cloud being.”

I read Bartcop even though I am for sensible gun control and in truth wouldn’t mind if every firearm
in the US was banned and/or confiscated.

I read Bartcop even though I think that legalized gambling is legalized robbery and a massive drain on the economy.

I read Bartcop even though I’m a Fighting Irish fan and can’t stand the Oklahoma Sooners
(though truthfully, in the years since Barry Switzer’s been gone I’ve softened on them some).

I read Bartcop even though I think the analysis presented on a lot of issues is simplistic and sometimes
wrong (a recent debate on the tax structure with a reader didn’t engage any of the reader’s factual points,
merely asserted that they were wrong).

 Moment...
If we're talking about the same exchange, I think it's wise to focus on the BIG picture.
Someone can start throwing stats around to make a point about taxes, but I fail to see
why the people making $40K are fighting for Gates to pay less taxes.
In every case possible, I try to argue the overview, not the trivia.
Is that what you meant by simplistic?

I read Bartcop even though I hate tequila and can’t understand the obsession with Shirley from Garbage.

You’ve probably lost readers over anyone of those things, and probably over things a lot more petty than
being an OU fan or your taste in music.  But I keep coming back to Bartcop because you’re tough, you’ve
got a hammer, and you don’t pull punches with when it comes to Bush and his hard right agenda.
(Plus I have a sense of humor).  When Democrats and Greens and liberals and progressives, the whole
panoply that make up the leftwing in this country get caught up in fighting among ourselves that makes us
easy pickings for Karl Rove and company.  We need to fight and you are helping to lead the way.

In the past I’ve donated a small amount of money ($10 lousy bucks) but I plan on sending more as soon
as I can find a job in this wretched economy.

 Keep hammering,

 Eric
