The capture of Saddam perfectly illustrates the
total lunacy of the right wing in this country
which makes any kind of intelligent debate impossible.
Every right winger in America has been
crowing about how this validates Bush's war,
how this silences Bush's critics, how this makes him
a shoe-in for re-election.
The big question is: what the fuck are they talking about???
We already deposed Saddam. Freaking nine
months ago. We just now caught him,
not at the headquarters of his dissident army,
but in a freaking mud hole.
The Iraqis are going to jump up and down in the
streets for a couple of days, then they're going to
realize the power still doesn't work, that they
still hate their neighbors, that they still hate Israel and
the United States, that they have a foreign army
occupying their country, and that they don't want a
western democracy. They want an Islamic
theocracy.
And that, aside from the lying and fakery leading
up to the war, is what Bush's critics have been saying
for a year now. No one ever said we shouldn't
invade Iraq because we'll never catch Saddam. No one
ever said the invasion was a failure because
we didn't have Saddam (though, we often used the failure to
get Saddam as illustrative of Bush's incompetence).
The bad depressing news coming out of Iraq for
the last nine months hasn't been daily reports of Saddam
eluding capture, you freaking dumb-ass Republican
brick heads. The bad news has been the daily killing
of American soldiers, foreign contractors, and
Iraqi government officials. The bad news is the reconstruction
is going horribly, and the country looks to be
on the brink of chaos.
The country is ungovernable by Americans, and
the kind of change we are seeking, the Bush administration
lacks the intelligence, the diplomacy, and the
competence to acheive.

When American troops toppled Saddam's statue,
the right wing crazies all said the same thing they're
saying today, "We told you so. You liberals
have been proven wrong for good, this time."
And then, over the next nine months, everything
liberals predicted came true. Now we're being told
the capture of Saddam has proved us wrong again
about everything we were right about.
Nine months from now, I wonder what they'll come up with to try to tell us we're wrong about the continuing mess in Iraq.
