Giuliana
Sgrena Returns to Rome
US ceases fire on Italian ally, safe passage allowed
Excerpt:
Draped in a blanket and apparently hooked up
to an intravenous drip, former hostage Giuliana Sgrena
was carried off a plane upon returning from Bush's
bloody war on Saturday, hours after American troops
fired on the car taking her to Baghdad's airport,
wounding her and killing the Italian agent protecting her.
Her brother, Ivan Sgrena, told reporters she was
very happy to be back in Italy but was "very sorry and sad"
about the death of Nicola Calipari, who was killed
when he threw himself over Sgrena to protect her from U.S. fire.
Giuliana Sgrena told Rai News 24 by telephone that "we
thought the danger was over after my rescue."
"And instead, suddenly there was this shooting. We were
hit by a spray of fire," she said. "I was talking to Nicola ...
when he leaned over me, probably to defend me,
and then he slumped over. That was a truly terrible thing."
Pier Scolari, the journalist's boyfriend, said
she told him: "The most difficult moment was when I saw the person
who had saved me die in my arms," according to
the ANSA news agency.

US attack
against Italians was deliberate: companion

Excerpt:
The companion of freed Italian journalist Giuliana
Sgrena has leveled serious accusations at US troops
who fired at her convoy as it was nearing Baghdad
airport, saying the shooting had been deliberate.
"The Americans and Italians knew about (her) car coming," Pier
Scolari said on leaving Rome's Celio
military hospital where Sgrena is to undergo surgery
following her return home.
"They were 700 meters (yards) from the airport, which
means that they had passed all checkpoints."
The shooting late Friday was witnessed by Prime
Minister Silvio Berlusconi's office which was on the
phone with one of the secret service agents, said
Scolari. "Then the US military silenced the cellphones," he charged.
"Giuliana had information, and the US military did not
want her to survive," he added.

failing to keep their pledge to achieve gender equality.
"The women of the world don't need any more words from
their governments ÷ they want action,
they want resources and they want governments to

The women's report sounded very different from
the speeches this week at the U.N. conference,

Bart,
I can't help thinking that if I were them, I'd
be saying to myself, "Boy that one attack is going a long way.
We don't have to lift another finger. They are
doing our work for us. Their economy is about to tank...they are

In a significant blow to Gov. Musclegead, Superior

that he acted illegally when he delayed implementation
of a state law requiring hospitals

Subject: Why Al Qaeda Hasn't
Attacked Us
Bart,
Since we talked, I thought of something that is
a corollary to why Al Qaeda hasn't attacked us.
We already have proof that they can be bought off
and stopped from attacking - look at the deal
the rulers of Saudi Arabia made with Al Qaeda to
stop most or all of the attacks inside Saudi Arabia.
And the Saudis are Bush's good friends, aren't
they? Bush probably brokered this deal through Prince Bandar
(or "Bandar Bush" as he is fondly known by the
BFEE). The bin Laden family is heavily invested in the same
industries that stand to profit from the endless
war scenario. Osama bin Laden is simply attending to the family business.
He knows that, if he attacks the US again, Bush
would have to whack him to survive politically, and that it might upset
their dandy profit center.
It kind of gets back to your question: would evil
men kill to steal billions?
Of course they would, and they are.
I just finished listening to Show 69, and your
comments on the stock market are spot on. If you want to invest,
stick to natural resources (oil, gas, precious
metals, industrial metals, etc.), and keep the rest of your cash liquid by
putting it in
a short-term Treasury money market fund (short-term
ONLY). If you still want to invest, use a trailing stop-loss strategy.
Here's the way it works: say you purchase 100 shares
of a stock or mutual fund at $10 a share. If the price of the stock or
fund drops 25%, to $8 a share, sell it, don't hold
on to it. If the price rises, say to $15 a share, adjust your strike, or selling
price accordingly. At $15, your trailing stop loss
number would be $11.25. It's kind of like poker: "you've got to know when
to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to
walk away, know when to run."
Note that, in this strategy, if the price rises,
then falls to your new trailing stop loss, you still walk away with modest
gains.
If your initial investment drops in value to $800
(your original stop loss price), you've minimized your losses.
I have some other ideas to pass along to Bartcop.com
readers;
if I ever get enough free time, I'll post them
to your stocks section.

Over

Excerpt:
Lately, I've been considering whether Bush's
justification for the Iraq War: we are fighting them there
so they won't come here isn't completely
without merit. After all, there have, incredibly, been no attacks
in America since 9-11. And creating a theme park
for jihadists in Iraq certainly has kept them occupied.
It was brought home to me by a friend in Hawaii. "I
believe that. Hey, I'm a lifelong Democrat. But there
haven't been any attacks here." Again and
again this is mentioned by US troops as the rationale for their
struggle and suffering, and it seems logical.
But it breaks down on closer examination. First,
there's the madness of creating a vicious insurgent war in
a place that didn't have one. No matter how many
times Bush and the neocons say so, there were no terrorists
directed at America in Iraq before the invasion*,
until we invaded and created them. Perhaps Iraq has functioned
as a gigantic bug zapper for jihadi mosquitoes-
where were the suicide bomber when Saddam reigned?- but most
fanatics are home grown. Was it really worth the
immense price in lives and treasure? The Arabs who flocked to
fight the good fight in Iraq weren't planning or
able to mount attacks on America. Maybe in Iraq, they will get the
training to do so: a prison university for criminals,
except it's Al Qaida training terrorists.

The Bush administration sets out worthy-sounding
goals - freedom, democracy, security - and then it
applies whatever tactics are deemed necessary -
torture, murder, unprovoked invasions - along with
an aggressive propaganda strategy at home.
Next, when events take a positive turn, the neoconservatives
claim credit, even if they had only a minor role
or the events were largely coincidental. Criticism
of the bloody means is washed away by celebration of the
virtuous ends. Mainstream commentators join in,
cheering the neocons' farsightedness. Those who opposed
the original actions are pushed to the political
margins.
After two years of bloody war in Iraq and 1,500
U.S. soldiers dead, the neocons have reached such a moment.
They are claiming vindication because of several
developments in the Middle East, including the Iraqi election,
tentative progress in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations,
and Lebanese demands for a full Syrian withdrawal.

rather his start
In November, 1963, Dan Rather was an unknown newscaster
at a small Texas TV station.
When the Zapruder film of the assassination of
John Kennedy became public knowledge,
Dan Rather reported from Texas that he had seen
the film, and that it showed John Kennedy's
head "rocket forward" from the head shot.
Single frames were shown from the film in magazines
and on TV, but the actual moving image was
not shown to the American public until Jim Garrison's
trial of CIA agent Clay Shaw made the Zapurder
film public, and proved once and for all that the
head shot pushed John Kennedy's head backwards.
Shortly after Rather's "rocket forward" broadcast,
he was given his first network slot and the start of
his rise to media stardom. His original "rock
forward" broadcast appears briefly under the opening titles
of Oliver Stone's "JFK".

The Hunting

I saw the Conason/Lyons movie in full for the first time Saturday.
There weren't a lot of surprises, but I didn't know that the crooked
judge, David Sentelle,
(appointed by Reagan as a favor to Jesse Helms) who yanked Independent

out of the way so Ken Starr could launch an open-ended assault on the 1996

'Nuke

Excerpt:
After substantial public outcry about twice saying
he wants to "nuke" Syria, U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson
[R-Texas] is now back-pedaling and contradicting
what his chief of staff told Roll Call, the non-partisan
Capitol Hill publication that broke the story.
In a March 4 article in the Dallas Morning News,
one of numerous places I sent the Roll Call report,
Johnson claimed he was "kind of joking" about the
matter. The paper quoted Johnson as saying: "I was
kind of joking. You know. We were talking between
veterans. We were swapping sea stories - things that
we'd done in the military." Then Johnson added, "Syria
actively opposes our allies' efforts on terrorism,
and they finance and harbor terrorists in Palestine,
Iraq and Lebanon. We're sure of that. They even fought
against us on the border during the Iraq incursion.
So I don't think they're a friend of the United States at all."
Johnson has said at least twice he wanted
to kill everyone in Syria in one nuclear swoop, just because he has
some unproven notion that weapons of mass destruction
are being hidden there. He has said this to a public
gathering in a speech in a church, no less, on
Feb. 19, and privately to Bush himself at the White House.

Subject: Bush's deal with Al
Qaida
Bart,
I have no doubt that Bush has some sort of deal with them to lay off on us
in exchange for letting Osamma tread this pebble
unharmed. My thought is that they
knew it would happen and let it in exchange we
would fly out the bin Ladens and
leave Osamma alone in exchange for no more attacks.
This gave the PNAC their "Pearl Harbor" to take
over the country and the Middle East.
Invading Iraq gave Saudi Arabia a reason for
us to move out our bases there and that's what Osamma wanted.
Everyone is happy except the dead Iraqis and the
families of our solders who are dead or maimed.
R Carlson
When Bush reminds us, "We're fighting them
over there so we don't have to fight them here,"
that makes me wonder why the "evildoers" would travel to Iraq to fight
the world's best military
instead of coming to America to create REAL terror by killing innocent
weomen and children.
If 9-11 taught us anything, it's that our enemy isn't stupid.
So Al Qaeda has chosen to fight "over there" instead of here, where the
battle began?
That makes no sense.
The only thing that does make sense is that they've made a deal
with Bush.

AG Attacks Women's Rights

Excerpt:
The Kansas Attorney General, Phill Kline, is
seeking medical records of women÷including their name, medical history,
sexual history, birth control practices and psychological
profiles÷from two state abortion clinics as part of an alleged
criminal investigation he claims is about sexual
abuse of minors.
"If the brief had not been filed publicly, we wouldn't
even know that a Kansas court, operating in secret and using a gag rule
on the doctors, is demanding the most personal
and private information about scores of patients from their physicians,"
said Gandy. "The court even denied these doctors
the right to tell the patients that their records were requested, so the
women couldn't even defend themselves and their
privacy."
Kline has a pattern of trying to force medical
providers to report information about the past sexual history of women.
In 2003, his office tried to obtain information
about girls younger than 16 who engaged in sexual activity.
"There's obviously no allegation of wrongdoing or criminal
behavior by these women÷if there were, they'd have the right
to know the charges, the right to challenge release
of their information, the right to confront their accusers, the right to
due process and the right to an attorney," said
Gandy. "But these women don't even have basic rights in Kansas.
Phill Kline should be impeached for gross misuse
of his office and abuse of public trust."
Bush has given all religiously-insane knuckledraggers
the "courage" to turn back the clock.
The whole world is either laughing at America's
downfall or cringing in fear they made be next on Bush's hit list.
