"What the hell happened to the idea of an opposition party?  They should oppose Roberts
because they oppose him; that's what they were elected to do: oppose people who believe
what people like Roberts believe...And with Patrick Leahy announcing that he is voting
for Roberts, one is tempted to conclude that the Democrats are just plain hopeless as an
opposition party and the Republicans will get yet another chance in 2008 to destroy what
remains decent and hopeful about America."

What to Do About the Bush Problem
  by Robert Parry at  consortiumnews.com

  Link

 Excerpt:
The stark question now before the country is: Should it sit still for the next three-plus years of Bush's
presidency or demand accountability, including possibly the removal of him and his political team from office?

Though it's true that impeachment of both Bush and Cheney would be an extreme step, this constitutional
option must be judged against the alternative of a continued national leadership that is facing worsening crises
while known for a trademark refusal to admit mistakes or to make meaningful adjustments to its policies.

Over and over, Bush has made clear that he has no intention to reverse himself on any of his core decisions,
which include the Iraq War, tax cuts weighted toward the upper incomes, tolerance of record budget deficits
and rejection of the chief international agreement on global warming, the Kyoto Treaty. (Bush even questions
the overwhelming scientific consensus on global warming.)

So, the hard choice is whether the country would be better off starting this political battle now with an eye
toward a change in control of Congress in 2006 or simply waiting for the next presidential election in 2008.

 Feingold Loves Woman-hating Roberts
  Says he has a record as a "fair-minded" woman-hater

  Link

  Excerpt:
Roberts did not expressly say how he would rule if asked to overturn Roe v. Wade. But if Judge Roberts
abides by what he said about how he would approach the question of stare decisis, I think he should vote
to uphold Roe. He certainly left some wiggle room, and he said he would approach the possibility of
overturning a case differently if the underlying precedents themselves came into question. But it will be
difficult to overrule Roe or other important precedents while remaining true to his testimony about stability
and settled law, including his statement that he agrees with the outcome in Griswold v. Connecticut.
I know the American people will be watching him very closely on that question, and I personally will
consider it a reversal of huge proportions, and a grave disappointment, if he ultimately does attempt
to go down that road.

Well, as long as Feingold is surprised when Roberts takes away women's rights that's good enough - right?

And Hillary, you're going to cause me a lot of problems if you vote against women's rights, too.
I have enough problems, so vote the right way on this woman-hating bastard, would you?

Hey Bart,

I was in Beijing last week. They might not follow classic Marxism - Leninism
but the one party police state is still in full effect. Take a stroll in Tiananmen Sq.
and look around at how many vans a full of cops waiting to drag you away for
the slightest political expression.

Sure everyone is free to try get rich, just don't think too much.

I thought the place a bit creepy, and I live in Hanoi!!!!

New Orleans Flooded Again
Pascal was right - no Rita worries there

 Link

 Excerpt:
Hurricane Rita's steady rains sent water pouring through breaches in a patched levee today,
cascading into one of the city's lowest-lying neighborhoods in a devastating nightmare.

"Our worst fears came true," said Maj. Barry Guidry of the Georgia National Guard.

 Amber Frey, guilty of fraud
Peterson slut slept with every man in Cali

   Link

  Excerpt:
Scott Peterson's girlfriend is back in the spotlight after a DNA test showed
that her first child was not fathered by the man who was paying child support.

Anthony Flores has been paying Frey $175 a month for nearly four years.
The father of the girl is actually the owner of Porky's Rib House.

Flores was preparing to file a court motion seeking visitation rights, which he has
been denied, when the man received word last week that he was not the child's father.

Frey's attorney, Gloria Allred, said Wednesday that her client never intended to deceive Flores.
"Amber, in good faith, always believed that Mr. Flores was her child's father," Allred said.

But Gloria, if Amber was always honest, why did she wait until the fella sought visitation
to tell him he wasn't the father? She was content to cash that check every month until the guy
wanted to see his daughter.

I think Amber Frey has as much credibility as the woman who "found" a finger at Wendy's.

Subject: Senator Rubberstamp

Bart,

How does "liberal" Sen. Patrick Leahy look at himself in the mirror without vomiting?

They sent him an anthrax letter.
They told him "Go fuck yourself" on the Senate floor.
Yet he still bends over for them like a prison bitch.

Subject: Galloway vs Palast

Bart,

I believe Greg Palast.  He infuriates everybody because he is too honest.
I loved hearing Galloway slam Coleman and Hitchens, but he appears to have been
embarrasingly close to Saddam. Anyway, a traveling Galloway vs. Hitchens debate
show reminds me of the Tim Leary vs. G. Gordon Liddy debate show.
Like championship wrestling, it is entertainment for money.

I'm sad about this, as Galloway might have made a great hero.
However, Palast's credibility is proven, and he is fearless of
alienating anybody by telling the truth.
Galloway may prove an embarrassing hero.

Subject: Nat'l enquirer article on bush's alcoholic relapse

Bart, regarding the Nat'l enquirer article on bush's alcoholic relapse, my wife used to work at
American media, which publishes The Nat'l Enquirer- until the anthrax scare.  I know for a fact
that the Enquirer doesn't print anything they can't back up anymore.
If they say he's drinking, you can take it to the bank.  they are always dead on.

I challenge anyone to identify any false enquirer article about a celebrity in the past four years.
Good luck.  They have the very best network of investigators and snitches in the country, and when
David Pecker took over as CEO of American Media, they put an end to their exposure to libel claims
by instituting a new policy of printing only rock solid truths.  I'm sure this is no different.

"There is a general sense now that things are falling apart. The economy was already
faltering before Katrina hit. Gasoline prices are starting to undermine the standard of
living of some Americans, and a full-blown home-heating-oil crisis could erupt this winter.
The administration's awful response to the agony of the Gulf Coast has left most Americans
believing that we are not prepared to cope with a large terrorist attack. And Osama is
still at large. This is what happens when voters choose a president because he seems
like a nice guy, like someone who'd be fun at a barbecue or a ballgame. You'd never use
that criterion when choosing a surgeon, or a pilot to fly your family across the country."

Subject: drunk monkey

Hey Bart,

This reminds me of the time the monkey supposedly choked on a pretzel while watching a football game.
He passed out, fell off a couch and wound up with a fat lip and a large bruise.

As soon as I heard that I immediately thought he fell down drunk and it was a cover story.
As someone with experience with both pretzels and alcohol, my educated opinion is that
such a fall would much more likely happen due to alcohol.

Let me be clear. I had no illusions that John Roberts would not be confirmed.
The fight NOW was for the NEXT fight. Dems needed to show spine now so that Bush
would fear what they might do on the next one. Who in their right mind would have any
fear of the Democratic Senators now? No one. Even an idiot like Bush can see that.

Bush now has a free hand to nominate whatever wingnut he pleases.

The curse of Texas is once again upon the land -- an elective war, important enough to fight,
not important enough to pay for. Up to now, it's been manageable if only because few have
been asked to sacrifice anything for the grand cause of . . . well, it's hard to say, isn't it?
On a national scale, the casualty rate is bearable and the financial cost has not been felt because
the money was first looted from the surplus and then borrowed. But that borrowing will drive up
interest rates, including mortgages, and it might, as happened with Vietnam, trigger inflation that
lasted longer than the war itself. Everything is going to get more expensive and voters are going
to get more grumpy and it's all going to look like it once did to LBJ.

Subject: Bush drinking again

Dear Bartcop:

Yes, George Bush is a lying thief, and I wish he would be impeached.
But when I first heard on Air America Radio the allegations that he was drinking again,
I wanted to find out where the story had been printed.

Come to find out on your web-site it was the National Enquirer.
I hope that more reputable news organizations will find out the truth because
right now the credibility of the story is too suspect in my mind.

Bush OKs Saudi child sex slaves

  Link

 Excerpt:
Bush decided Wednesday to waive any financial sanctions on Saudi Arabia for noy
stopping the modern-day slave trade in prostitutes, child sex workers and forced laborers.

In June, the State Department listed 14 countries as failing to adequately address trafficking
problems, subjecting them all to possible sanctions if they did not crack down.

Of those 14, Bush concluded that Bolivia, Jamaica, Qatar, Sudan, Togo and the United Arab Emirates
had made enough improvements to avoid any cut in U.S. aid or, in the case of countries that get no
American financial assistance, the barring of their officials from cultural and educational events,
said Darla Jordan, a State Department spokeswoman.

 Subject: Independent Katrina Commission

IMO, an independent commission would be a waste of our tax money.

I'd rather see a special prosecutor appointed who could convene a grand jury

in the tooth fairy), then we could have some nice trials.

When they spent $100M investigating Clinton for sex, they got the most sexually
perverted partisan bastard imaginable to root around inside Clinton's zipper.

           "Hi, I'm Kenneth Starr"

...and gave him unlimited time, unlimited scope, subpeona power and
at least 700 FBI agents - agents that could've been searching for Al Qaeda.

...because Clinton's sex life was so goddamn  important.

For 9/11, Bush's bloody quagmire and Katrina
- none of which are important because only 6,000 Americans died -
Bush gets friends and sometimes his own employees to investigate.

Why?
Because the Democrats don't want to raise a fuss and say, "That's not fair."

Could someone replace Levin with Rubberstamp Leahy?

Thanks in advance.
