'Plame-gate'
& Myth of the Renegade Aide
by Robert Parry as seen on consortiumnews.com
Link
Excerpt:
Whatever special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald
concludes about crimes committed in the leaking of
Plame's identity, he's certain to face fierce
resistance if he tries to track the evidence back up the chain
of command to Cheney or Bush. The history of
Watergate and Iran-Contra tells us that official
Washington almost always favors the myth of the
renegade aide.

Libby indictment
names Rove
...sources tell Jackson Thoreau
Link
Excerpt:
The indictment and resignation of Scooter Libby
on Good Friday is just the beginning.
The best news is that a new grand jury was impaneled.
Libby's indictment includes a passage in which
an "Official A" told Libby that he had talked
with Novak about Plame andthat Novak would be
writing a story about Plame.
And who is "Official A?" None other than Karl
Rove, according to my sources.
Rove and Novak go way back in such dirty tricks.
In 1992, Rove, with help from Novak,
with whom Rove has often dined, smeared Robert
Mosbacher Jr., George H.W. Bush's
then-presidential campaign manager. Mosbacher
gave John Weaver, a Rove competitor,
the bulk of a $1 million direct mail contract,
and Rove spread a story that Mosbacher had
been replaced in Texas by another campaign manager,
which Novak repeated in a column.
Poppy Bush reportedly dismissed Rove from his
campaign for doing that, but his son will
not do so for doing worse in the Plame case.
But expect Rove to go down eventually.
Fitzgerald is just building the case against
Rove and possibly others…

Excerpt:
Harry Reid (D-Quiet and Nice) said Sunday that
Bush and Cheney should apologize for the actions
of their aides in the CIA leak case. Reid also
said Bush should pledge not to pardon any aides convicted
as a result of the investigation into the disclosure
of CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity.
"There has not been an apology to the American
people for this obvious problem in the White House," Reid said.
He said Bush and Cheney "should come clean with
the American public. This has gotten way out of hand,
and the American people deserve better than this."

Control to the Iraqis
Bush has to get out before the '06 elections get him impeached
Link
Excerpt:
Seeking to lower the visibility of U.S. troops
and grant more authority to Iraqi government forces,
the American military has now ceded control of
27 of the nation's 109 bases, U.S. and Iraqi officials said.
Thousands of U.S. troops have been redeployed
in recent months from Iraqi bases, and Iraqis are now
in charge of patrol areas that include four districts
of Baghdad and the town of Taiji, northeast of the capital.
On Friday, American officials announced that the
next major military installation expected to be transferred
to Iraqi control was Saddam's palace in Tikrit.
The site has been renamed Forward Operating Base Danger
and currently houses more than 6,000 U.S. troops.
.
Naming that base "Danger" may be the first honest
thing they've done over there.
Plus, who thinks America controls Iraq?
There were over 1,000 car bombs and suiciders
in September.
Does that sound to you like we control anything
over there?

Bush Picks
Alito for Supreme Court

Excerpt:
Der Monkey, stung by the rejection of his first
choice, nominated longtime judge Samuel Alito today
in a bid to reshape the Supreme Court and mollify
his conservative allies. Democrats said that Alito
may be "too radical for the American people."
"Unlike my downstairs maid Harriet Miers, Judge
Alito has served with distinction for 15 years, and now has more
prior judicial experience than any Supreme Court
nominee in more than 70 years," Bush said with a straight face.

Hi Bart,
Why not run Grace Slick as Hillary's VP?
Makes as much sense as trumpeting Hillary all
the time.
Is Grace a New York senator with an approval rating in the high sixties?
You have a lot of good points and observations
Bart.
Your head is completely up your ass on Hillary.
The controversy you create by backing a peevish
bitch like Hillary is causing a stir;
which in some twisted way seems to make you happy,
like: torture has it good points,
I didn't say "torture has its good points."
I said in extreme circumstances, with three important criteria, it
might save millions of lives.
Some people are willing to lose millions of American lives in one day
"for principle."
I'm not one of them.
the fact that guns are illegal in Japan - and
murder is non-existent - but we really need
guns here - in spite of all the contrary evidence
from truly civilized countries.
If Japan had 200 million guns you couldn't outlaw guns there.
Why can't the anti-gun nuts address that fact?
The question is not, "Should
we have guns?"
The question is,
"We have 200 million guns - can we control them?"
You'll need one foot in the real world to win this debate.
I'm interested in having a Democrat as President.
I may not know who the next Abraham Lincoln
- a real Democrat - is, but I know Hillary is
cold, pisses repubs and dems, and anyone else off;
and can NEVER win - repeat, never win - that's
the point here.
Why lie to yourself?
BobInAkron
Bob, like a dozen people before you, you claim Hillary
can't win but you failed to mention
who might be able to beat her - why did you leave that out?
The country laughs when Dean or Kucinich is mentioned.
That's not fair, but that's a fact you need to recognize.
Hillary haters need to understand that numbers mean things.
She can raise more money in 24 hours than any other candidate can raise
in a month.

your choices are Hillary or the BFEE stooge - how you gonna vote?

The significance of the indictments handed down
Friday against Libby goes far beyond who said what,
when and to whom. Just as the prosecutions of
administration officials in the Watergate scandal were
only tangentially tied to a "second-rate burglary,"
the charges against Libby cast a bright glare on the extent
to which the White House has gone to pre-empt
scrutiny about how this nation was lured into a war on
false pretenses. At least in the Watergate scandal,
or with Monica, no one died because of the administration's
dissembling. By contrast, the invasion of Iraq,
of which Libby was an influential advocate, has resulted in 2,000
deaths of American servicemen and women, at least
30,000 Iraqi deaths, and many, many more maimed and wounded."
The problem is, handjob America thinks oral sex is worse than
a fake war and 2000 dead soldiers.

If Libby wants to help Cheney and Bush stay out of trouble - he'll plead
guilty and avoid the trial.
Libby doesn't want to plead because he's looking at the following penalties,
according to Fitzgerald:
Obstruction of justice - Ten years
Perjury Count One - Five years.
Perjury Count Two - Five years.
False Statements Count One - Five years
False Statements Count Two - Five years
That's thirty years, Scooter.

Cheney should
be sweating
by Andrew Sullivan
Link
Excerpt:
We know from the indictment text that Libby got
the classified information about Valerie Plame from Cheney,
who got it from that part of the CIA that employs
undercover agents. But Libby told the FBI and the grand jury
that he got the information first from reporters.
Why the discrepancy? If Libby had done nothing illegal why didn't
he just tell the truth? It's clear to me that
Fitzgerald believes that there was a bigger reason for those little lies,
a rationale for the coverup, a larger premise
that makes sense of all of this. Part of that premise has to involve the
actions and motivations of Cheney. Fitzgerald
and his team know this. They have not finished their inquiry and have
an important potential source of new information
facing a trial under a judge known for hefty sentences. Some kind
of plea deal by Libby — a shorter sentence in
return for naming names in the underlying case? — is not inconceivable.
If I were Cheney, I'd be sweating a little."

Subject: More Misfortune for
Bush
President Bush got more unfortunate news today
as Lewis (Scooter) Libby was indicted on 5 felony counts
that follows a string of other unfortunate events.
He lost his nominee to the supreme court. The price of gas
hovers at 3 dollars a gallon and Exxon posted
record profits. The death toll in Iraq crossed 2000 and mothers
like Cindy Sheehan are following him around questioning
if he lied to start the war. Then there was the Katrina
debacle where hundreds died because the FEMA
director was inexperienced and clueless. This all is on top of
the growing deficit and higher inflation, with
more and more people no longer able to afford health care costs.
New bankruptcy laws prevent people from starting
over in favor of credit card companies. His program to
change Social Security is going nowhere and congress
is working on cutting Medicare and Medicaid to
raise money to give permanent tax cuts to the
super rich.
The right wing is turning on him as well as the
Republicans in Congress who fear the 2006 elections will
no longer favor them, even with rigged voting
machines. Teen pregnancies are up and high school graduation
is down. Taxes are up and services are down.
The stock market has been flat hovering 2000 points below
where it was 6 years ago. Then there's Halliburton
kickbacks, Bin Laden is still free, the insurgents are winning,
no weapons of mass destruction, Abu, Ghraib torture
scandal, questions about the 9-11 attack, a gay hooker
posing as Whitehouse press reporter, reporters
going to jail, questions about stolen elections, global warming
causing more hurricanes, bird flu, anthrax attacks,
huge increases in heating oil, natural gas, and electricity costs,
arctic oil drilling, mission not quite accomplished,
Tom Delay was indicted, Bill Frist is under SEC investigation,
and with the Republicans in power there's no
one else to blame.
Poor Mr. Bush.
Being president is hard work.

While indictment fever gripped the Washington
press corps this month, the president's spin doctor was
incapacitated. An ailing Karl Rove could not
help the Republican search for a media cure. With temperature
