State
Power & Conservative Ideology
by Stephen Crockett as seen on consortiumnews.com
Link
Excerpt:
It is increasingly apparent that there is an
important ideological conflict going on in the modern
conservative movement between supporters of increased
state power and supporters of limited government.
The conflict pits the Bush Republicans against
traditional conservatives. While both groups give lip service
to the term limited government and use the same "conservative" label,
they are very different creatures.
The Bush Republicans advocate a "neo-con" approach
to state power that critics fear is a potential creeping
fascist ideology disguised as conservatism. Secret prisons,
torture and unlimited detention in prisons without trial
are all examples of policies supported by the Bush Republican
that outrage both traditional conservatives and civil libertarians.
Traditional conservatives rely on the rule of
law instead of personal rule by a strong leader or leadership group.
The Bush Republicans seem to believe that anything the
Bush Administration wants to do should be permitted
because they claim that they should be trusted not to
abuse the power of their offices.
Traditional conservatives believe that the system
of checks and balances should be strong enough to survive good
or bad White House or Congressional leaders. The Bush
Republicans seem to view the checks and balances system
devised by our Founding Fathers as obstacles to imposing
their views on our government and nation.

White
House reporters show signs of life
Link
Excerpt:
Some members of the White House press corps have
discovered, gasp, that McClellan has been lying to them.
Following Libby's indictment, some reporters have been
so unkind as to remind McClellan that on two separate
occasions he told them that neither Libby nor Rove had
discussed Valerie Plame (the CIA agent) with reporters.
He knew this to be true, McClellan said,
because both men had assured him that it was.
Both had lied, of course. And that's McClellan's fault?
McClellan works in a nest of serial liars who
mistrust the news media and feel under no obligation to deal with them
or the public honestly. McClellan is their spokesman.
He tells the media people what he's told to tell them.
What is he supposed to do, step up to the lectern and
begin each question and answer session with something like this:
"Look people, you and I know what I'm about to
tell you is pure BS, but it's my job. I'm only following orders,
which are to treat you like mushrooms; that is, keep
you in the dark and feed you manure."
We've been seeing "signs of life" for almost a year.
It's time for the damn press top stop protecting the guilty and come
to work.

that Democrats who acted patriotically when asked
to stand alongside their President -- who said we
had an urgent "imminent" "mushroom cloud" threat

I guess he's saying they should have known better.
I think we all know better now."

Subject: Bill Maher
Hey Bart,
Just saw Bill Maher here in Orlando. Wow,
what a show!
The place was PACKED and Bill got a number of standing
ovations throughout his 1 1/2 hour show.
The thing I liked about this show is that it was just
Bill up there, no props or anything, just a mic and
a note holder and plenty of Bush and pink tutu bashing.
I'm a pretty serious Democrat of course,
but I too get freaked out by their lack of spine of such
obvious things and let the BFEE slide
on so many issues when they have the ball in their court
to kick some serious ass!
Good to see somebody like Bill out there to not
just bash Bush (pretty easy target by any account)
but he didn't let the Dem weaknesses slide and I got
to thinking... maybe that's what they need.
Someone to get their heads out of the, hmmm sand, and
get motivated to take advantage of some
of these political windfalls that keep coming at them
and stop all the nicey-nicey crap.
Anyway, enough of my rant... just thought I'd
pass along a hearty two thumbs up for Bill's show
and if anyone ever gets the chance to see him live, it's
a very entertaining and enlightening evening!

It's November 14.
Yesterday, I cooked chicken on the outdoor grill, in bare feet, shorts

Dear God, the Bixby corn's been gone for 110 days - we no longer need

We haven't turned on the furnace this year, and I like furnace weather,

I remember, just a few years ago, when we had to wear jackets to the

but heat.
Please, O vengeful God, can we have some cool weather this year?
Am I asking too much, Lord?

Bush -
Dishonest Bastard
Most Americans Doubt His Honesty

Excerpt:
Most Americams - 57 percent - said they
think Bush is a dishonest bastard.
Just over four in 10 say Bush is honest. Whites, Southerners,
evangelicals, racial bigots,
the uneducated and the religiously-insane, were most
likely to believe Bush is honest.
Bush, who promised "honor and integrity," has
ordered his entire staff to attend ethics classes in an
attempt to fool the blind and the stupid into thinking
he's clean, but his staff is full of treasonous traitors.
The president gets credit from a majority for
being strong and decisive, but he's also known for
getting everything completely f-ing wrong, so his stubbornness
is dragging the country down with him.

CIA hid
torture report?
Link
Excerpt:
The CIA apparently tried to hide the death of
an Iraqi "ghost detainee" who died while being tortured at Abu Ghraib,
a US magazine reported, after obtaining hundreds of pages
of documents, including an autopsy report, about the case.
The death of the secret detainee was ruled a homicide
in a Defense Department autopsy, Time Whore Magazine reported,
adding that documents it recently obtained included photographs
of his battered body, which had been kept on ice to keep it
from decomposing, apparently to conceal the circumstances
of his death.
Thsee details emerge as US officials continue
to debate torture by US troops overseas, and efforts by Bush and Cheney
to obtain an exemption for the CIA from any future torture
ban so they can continue to torture for fun and profit.

Nurses
kick Musclehead's butt
Link
Excerpt:
Days after getting his ass kicked by the voters,
Gov. Musclehead has laid another
political battle to rest: he is no longer feuding with
California nurses over staffing levels.
Without his legal challenge, the state rule requiring
one nurse for every five patients stands.
Nurses called the decision "an enormous victory" because
Musclehead "is going to stop going
after registered nurses and patient ratios."
For the past year, Musclehead tried to block the
rule in favor of a 1-to-6 ratio, a fracas that escalated
in December 2004 when he labeled the union a special
interest and boasted, "I'm kicking their butts."
Since then, the union has attacked Schwarzenegger
in TV commercials, on freeway billboards and at
nearly every public event he held, including fundraisers
in New York and Boston.
In a September interview, Muscleahead said his comment
was a mistake.
Musclehead, you entry into politics was a mistake.
Your obit will read, "The former 'actor' served one term as governor

Excerpt:
On the day of the storm, or perhaps the day after,
FEMA turned down the state's suggestion
to use school buses because they are not air conditioned,
Blanco said Friday in an interview.
Even after levees broke and residents were crowding

Director Mike Brown was bent on using his own buses to
evacuate New Orleans, Blanco said.
The pretense about "air-conditioning" screams
that there is something else going on here.
One has to think that a hot bus ride would be preferable
to what many of these victims had to endure.
One also has to wonder whether cronyism and patronage
are not in play yet again.

Bush Leaves
GOP in Crisis
by Pat Bushanan Go, Pat, Go!
Link
Excerpt:
With the rout of Schwarzenegger's initiatives,
Democ victories in New Jersey and Virginia, and Bush's free fall
in national polls on job performance, credibility and
character, the GOP is in imminent peril of losing the country.
Indeed, since 9/11, the party has indulged in
a willful self-delusion that it has become America's Party.
The Bush triumph in 2004, talking heads brayed, settled
the matter: Red State has triumphed over Blue State.
The future belongs to us.
This was always hyperbole. Where Richard Nixon
and Ronald Reagan rolled up 49-state landslides in re-election runs,
Bush won 31 states, losing every state north of the Potomac
and east of Ohio, two of the three great industrial states
of the Midwest, Michigan and Illinois, and he was skunked
on the Pacific rim. Had Kerry hammered him on trade
and lost jobs in Ohio, Bush would be a one-term president.
If Kerry had tried at all, he would've won, ...but keep going,
Pat.
Under Bush II, social spending has exploded to
levels LBJ might envy, foreign aid has been doubled,
pork-at-every-meal has become the GOP diet of choice,
surpluses have vanished, and the deficit is soaring
back toward 5% of GDP.
Bill Clinton is starting to look like Barry Goldwater.
ha ha
Go, Pat, Go!
In March, 2003, Bush, in perhaps the greatest
strategic blunder in U.S. history, invaded an Arab nation that had
not
attacked us, did not want war with us, and did not threaten
us÷to strip it of weapons we now know it did not have.
Result: Shia and Kurds have been liberated from
Saddam, but Iran has a new ally in southern Iraq, Osama has a
new base camp in the Sunni Triangle, the Arab and Islamic
world have been radicalized against the United States,
and copy-cat killers of Al Qaida have been targeting
our remaining allies in Europe and the Middle East: Spain, Britain,
Egypt and Jordan.
And, lest we forget, 2055 Americans are dead and
Walter Reed is filling up.
.
The dominoes* are
starting to fall. Every day, each member of the GOP has to ask
themselves,
"How much longer do I stick with this miserable failure?
How could I have been so stupid?
If I don't get away from him, I'm f-ing
retired. Call the spinners! I need a strategy to get away!"
Memo to the DNC:
Not yet, but get ready to pounce.
Now is NOT the time to "play nice" and "give
a fella a break."
Wait for it, be ready for it, and when it timing's right (I'll tell you
when) you slam those bastards with everything.
We'll be all "Let's get along for the sake of the
country" after we mash them
and take back all three branches.
Don't screw this up.
And don't listen to Mary Beth Cahill or Bob Shrum - they'll advise you
to surrender.
Send all the fighting-is-wrong, peacenik weinies to France or St Bart's until Hillary a
Democrat is sworn in.
Then we'll be nice. And not
until then, do you hear me?
The best lesson a boxer can learn if when your aopponents is "on the
ropes,"
you don't stand there and appreciate your work - you beat him

Strategists:
Bush Comeback Will Be Tough
Link
Excerpt:
Republican strategists say Bush has time to snap
out of a three-month run of bad luck and setbacks,
including GOP losses Tuesday in gubernatorial races in
Virginia and New Jersey. Still, a comeback
will be tough, and will get increasingly tougher the
closer the 2006 midterm elections come.
Other presidents have recovered from ratings slumps
like the one Bush is in right now: Eisenhower came back
after the Sherman Adams scandal; Reagan rebounded after
Iran-Contra; Clinton triumphed after Monica.
Bush could shake up his White House staff, as
Eisenhower and Reagan did in their troubled second terms.
Or he could follow Clinton's lead and engage in a flurry
of domestic and foreign policy initiatives.
But the clock is running. And Bush may already have passed
the point of no return, suggested Paul C. Light,
a professor of public policy at New York University.
"Unless Bush and his advisers do something dramatic
to reposition the administration and stop the slide in
public approval, they're going to find they have very
few friends who want to come to the White House,
let alone friends who want them to come to their districts," Light
said. "And that's about the worst possible
position for a president to be in."
Things are different for Der Monkey. The
biggest.factor is that he's a monkey who can't learn.
He's stupid - damn stupid, and he's stubborn. And
since he's never worked a day in his life or been held
responsible for any of his thousands of screwups and
fuckups, he unfamiliar with having to "come back"
because Daddy always bought his way out of trouble, so
he's never had to learn those skills.
Reagan recovered by cleaning house - something
Bush won't do because he's too scared and weak.
Clinton "triumphed" because he didn't commit any crimes
and the people loved him.
It's bad for America, but we're going to see this
idiot, this lame, fucked duck, twist in the wind for the next
33 months and we're not going to show the
Giggling Murderer any mercy. I want to get mail saying,
"Bart, c'mon, he's had enough, time to stop pounding

I'm going to make an example out of this sniveling,
greedy little coward.

Round
Casa de Bart
Saturday morning, I got up early and I was about to turn a bottle of
vodka upside down,
when Mrs. Bart said, "No! You're taking me antique
shopping!"
Antique shopping - every husband's favorite, right?
But we'd been in Casa de Bart for 10 months without a kitchen
table, so we had to
do some furniture shopping before we could have someone over for a decent meal.
So she dragged me to Haskell, Oklahoma to the Haskell
Auction.
This place is crazy - they practically give furniture away here.
They seem to have no idea what furniture is worth.
The salesman told us they ship 80 percent of their stuff to New York - yeah,
I'll bet.
So now we have a kitchen table and she's all happy.
I found something exciting, too.
On a table, I saw these two extra-Catholic-looking cruets.
They were in pristine shape and they wanted, gasp - $4 each for 'em.
I offered them seven for the pair and they took it.
When we got home, I tested them and they work perfectly!
You can get the most precision pour ever using these guys.
When we do Tequila-Fest
2006,
I'll bring the cruets so we can stretch an ounce eight ways.
What city should we hold that in?
