"In my view, history will show that this president
never seriously prosecuted this war,
never took his responsibility seriously,
never provided sufficient resources, never even
gave it his full attention. That became
clear to me in 2003. I didn't get it beforehand because
I just assumed that any American president
would understand the gravity of the decisions
he was taking and would ensure that
he took all means to guarantee victory. But Bush didn't.
He ran this war like a distracted frat
boy, irritated by the distractions it required, and
outsourced its execution to two unhinged
aides. In other words: he wimped out."

Gonzales
Questions Habeas Corpus
by Robert Parry
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
In one of the most chilling public statements
ever made by a U.S. Attorney General,
Alberto Gonzales questioned whether the U.S.
Constitution grants habeas corpus rights
of a fair trial to every American.
Responding to questions from Sen. Arlen Specter
(R-Magic Bullet) on Jan. 18, Gonzales argued
that the Constitution doesn't explicitly bestow
habeas corpus rights; it merely says when the so-called
Great Writ can be suspended.
"There is no expressed grant of habeas in the
Constitution;
there's a prohibition against taking it away,"
Gonzales said.
Gonzales continued, "The Constitution doesn't
say every individual in the United States or citizen
is hereby granted or assured the right of habeas
corpus. It doesn't say that. It simply says the right
shall not be suspended" except in cases of rebellion
or invasion.
Bush and his gang of thugs didn't hear the message
the voters sent them on Nov 7th.
They continue down the path of doom and destruction
and if the Republicans had any brains,
they'd be furious that Bush is going to
give our next president a super-majority in both houses.
Right now the Republicans reputation is shit and
Bush is making it worse every day.

In a complete reversal on yesterday's story...
Dems not

We get this today...
President's
critics taking seats on Libby jury
newsday.com
Excerpt:
Seven critics of the Bush administration and
the Iraq war were approved as potential jurors
in the perjury trial of Scooter Libby after they
said they could set those feelings aside.
But two other women were dismissed from the jury
pool when they said their opposition to Bush
might color their deliberations. One said she
couldn't believe any statement by any Bush official;
the other said the Little Dictator's policies
would be a strike against witnesses from the administration.
Two others had been sent home Tuesday because
they had negative views of the administration.
Wouldn't it be nice of there was a major news organization in America
that told the truth?

The Worst
Possible President
Link
Excerpt:
I thought we were due for a rest
from Bill Clinton.
Little did we know, of course, that the neocons
thought we were due for a war. Thinktank gun-jockeys
looking for a fight. Do they personally have
some human qualities? Who cares. May they rot. At any rate,
what I think happened is that when the Bush/Scowcroft/Baker
faction decided to use Little George as
their presidential poster boy to expand their
Middle-East-based wealth and power, they didn't reckon
with Cheney and Rumsfeld. They thought their
boy would be personable and easy to control. The key
moment was when Cheney went looking for a vice-presidential
candidate and found himself. Once they
had given him the opening and he had publicly
used it to aggrandize himself and his agenda, B/S/B realized
that for the sake of party solidarity, they had
to live with it. When Baker engineered the coup that was
Florida (and I do think one of the "perks" Bush
offered as a candidate was that Florida was guaranteed
ahead of time by Jeb and K. Harris), I think
that B/S/B and C/R found themselves in an uneasy alliance
--goals were the same, but temperaments were
different. Right there at the pivot was Little George.

I listened to it twice.

Nice spanking of Eleanor Clift. You were

I was so embarrassed when she was twittering

Also enjoyed the heck out of show 100.

The Assault
on Liberty
by Philip Restino
Link
Excerpt:
The recent passage of the Military Commissions
Act of 2006 eliminated habeas corpus, a detainee's
right to know the charges for his detainment
and his right to defend himself against those charges in court.
The act not only allows information coerced by
means of torture to be incriminating, but it also retroactively
changes the law so as to protect anyone(the
criminals) in the Bush administration
and under its command
from prosecution for war crimes dating back to
Sept. 11, 2001.
Habeas corpus originated in the year 1215 and was shamelessly removed from
the American way
of life by President Bush, "The Decider" on Oct.
17, 2006. The vague language of the Military Commissions Act
also allows the president to decide what qualifies
one as an "enemy combatant" and to whom that qualification
applies, to include American citizens.
All to protect us from terrorism.
Bush can legally kidnap anybody on the planet.
Bush can legally torture anybody on the planet.
Bush can legally murder anybody on the planet.
Bush can legally take anybody on the planet, throw them into a cell
and never
admit he has them and the Democrats just stood there and allowed him
to do it.
"Our job is to rubber-stamp the crimes committed
by Bush."

Subject: Kissyface the insane
Lieberman was asked by Imus, "what do you do after
it doesn't work?" (Speaking of Bush's troop surge.)
Lieberman said, "I pray that it does work." And
he prattled on.
Imus said, for the 2nd time, "what do we do when
it doesn't work?" Lieberman again said,
"I hope and I pray it does work", deflecting
the question again, without answering it.
Imus asked for the 3rd and final time, "what do
we do when it doesn't work?" To my surprise,
Lieberman kind of answered it. He spoke
approvingly of something he said John McCain said,
that 'then we will have to come back to Iraq
in 3 to 5 years and fight a bigger war!'
Wow! This man is insane!
My quotes are not exact, but I assure you that
the meaning has been accurately conveyed.
I hope someone can send a tape to you - it was
this morning, January 19, Imus on MSNBC.
Icybays
Icybays, I knew Kissyface was insane before this happened.
What shocked me is that Imus actually asked a good question.

Let's lie
about Hillary
dailyhowler.com
Excerpt:
CHANNELING ATRIOS: A confession: We've never
understood claims like the following,
from Dan Balz, in
this morning's Post. Balz is reporting Hillary's press conference
on Iraq:
BALZ: Hillary offered her harshest
assessment to date of Bush's war strategy yesterday, continuing her
steady evolution from one of the war's staunchest
supporters to one of the administration's most prominent critics.
But how long has it been since Hillary Clinton
was "one of the war's staunchest supporters?"
Was she ever one of the "staunchest supporters?"
The war's staunchest supporters - think McCain and
Lieberman, but there are others - still support
the original decision to go to war. But omigod! All the way
back in August 2004, Clinton said this about
her vote for the war resolution. She spoke on Late Edition:
BLITZER (8/29/04): When you voted for that resolution,
like almost everyone else, you believed
Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction?
CLINTON: Right, right. Well, indeed I did. And
if someone asked me that if we had known then what
we know now, there wouldn't have been a vote.
You know, no administration would have come to the
Congress and asked for a vote that would have
authorized any kind of action based on what we now know.
Was she still "one of the war's staunchest supporters?"
Looks like Bob Sommerby at The Howler didn't get
the memo that all the cool lefty sites were
supposed to spread nutty-ass Mena Airport
and
Vince Foster lies about the Dem's front-runner.
There are too many lefties who swear that Hillary is "Bush's clone"
on Iraq.
Have I mentioned lately how pointless it is to lie to yourself?

Of course the Constitution does not guarantee anyone

Senate wants
to jail bloggers?
infowars.net
Excerpt:
Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of GrassrootsFreedom.com,
a website dedicated to
fighting efforts to silence grassroots movements,
states:
"Section 220 of S. 1, the lobbying reform bill
currently before the Senate, would require grassroots causes,
even bloggers, who communicate to 500 or more
members of the public on policy matters, to register and
report quarterly to Congress the same as the
big K Street lobbyists. Section 220 would amend existing
lobbying reporting law by creating the most expansive
intrusion on First Amendment rights ever.
For the first time in history, critics of Congress
will need to register and report to Congress."
Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats may redefine the
meaning of lobbying in order that political
communications to and even between citizens falls
under the same legislation.
It would be nice if we could count on the Democrats
not to screw this up.

Ted Nugent,
racist bastard
cnn.com
Excerpt:
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Hours after Gov. Rick Perry
kicked off his second full term in office,
Ted Nugent helped him celebrate, but not all
attendees were pleased by the racist's performance.
Using machine guns as props, Nugent, 58, appeared
onstage as the final act of the inaugural ball
wearing a racist t-shirt emblazoned with the
Confederate flag and shouting offensive remarks
about non-English speakers, according to people
who were in attendance.
Perry's spokesman downplayed the incident, but
others said the appearance was inappropriate.
"I think it was a horrible choice," GOP strategist
Royal Masset said. "I hope nobody approved it."
"Whenever someone sports the Confederate battle
flag, many Texans will be offended, and rightly so,
because of what it symbolizes: the enslavement
of African-Americans and more recently the symbol of
hate groups and terrorists," said Gary Bledsoe,
president of the Texas NAACP.
Racist bastards will pretend they're shocked by this, but when you invite
a Nugent or a Dennis Miller
to perform, you can't be shocked when they reveal they hate blacks,
gays, the poor etc etc.
The Republican party is the party of hate and everybody knows it, but
the Democrats have been
too scared to mention the damn facts so that allows the GOP bastards
to feign shock when their true
colors are exposed for the world to see.

The Republic
of Northern America
Why let the idiot South run everything? Let's turn Canuck!
thestar.com
Excerpt:
Who would have thought that the United States
would be seen as a society with an affinity for
aristocratic values while Canada would be perceived
as an alternative model, because of its
attachment to democratic values? This reversal
could change the political landscape of North America.
American society's slide toward the aristocratic
ideal risks exacerbating the anger of the northern states,
and possibly convincing them to leave the union.
In this context, among the political possibilities that face
Canadians in 2020, it would not be far-fetched
to include political integration with New England.

Bush's Canadian
'Clone' in Jeopardy
by my good friend Richard Fricker
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
The political decision by American voters on
Nov. 7 - flushing away GOP control of Congress
- is reverberating north of the border where
Canada's hard-line Conservative Prime Minister
Stephen Harper may become the next ally of George
W. Bush to be washed away.
Harper, who modeled his aggressive brand of conservatism
on what the Republicans had done
in the United States, is struggling in the polls
and confronting a reenergized Liberal opposition
that was encouraged by the Democratic victory.
"You don't have to be afraid of these guys
anymore," said Liberal Party spokesman Tait Simpson,
summarizing the lesson learned from the American
electorate's rejection of the GOP's tough-talking politics.
Hmmm, sounds like they've been reading bartcop.com
except that our position is
there never was any reason to be afraid of the racist
bastards in the GOP.
To defeat the racist, war-mongering Republicans, all you have to do
is lkist the facts.
If you're too cowardly to list the goddamn facts, get the fuck out
of the Democratic party.
