"The stimulus bill is the worst piece of economic legislation in a hundred years. This is not a stimulus, it is a mugging.
It is a fraud." -- Jim DeMint,

"Do you know anyone dancing in the street over
this bill? You don't. Because most everyone knows it isn't a good bill, and knows that its failure to receive a single
Republican vote, not one, suggests the old battle lines are hardening. The president will enjoy short-term gain.
In the great circle of power, to win you have to look like a winner, and
to look like a winner you have to win. He did and
does. But for the long term, the president made a mistake by not forcing
the creation of a bill Republicans could or should
have supported."

Obama should call a press conference and say,
"The Republicans have refused to support this
bailout bill. They want more tax cuts for the super-rich but that kind of
thinking is what got us into this mess in the first place. Republicans caused this financial meltdown
and now they are blocking efforts to fix it. If you lose your job or your home,
remember that the Republicans are responsible."
Excerpt: The GOP won’t respect you until you cut them
in an alley fight. If Obama puts in all this effort to buy
their votes
and gets the cold shoulder, then let’s see what
kind of guts our new president has. Because I know if Hillary had won
with 350 electoral votes by running on a platform
of universal health care, and putting Main Street over Wall Street,
only to see the Fascist dog leadership do this
right out of the box, she and Rahm Emanuel would have cut John Boehner’s
nuts off and made Mitch McConnell eat them, every
damn day.
This "Mr Nice Guy" act probably won't play out
for very long.
Fascist dogs respect one thing and that's brute
force.
"Those claiming that Obama has masterfully
depicted the Republicans as arrogant obstructionists by extending the hand of compromise should review
the latest Rasmussen Reports poll, which finds the public split almost evenly on whether they
support the Obama/Democratic economic recovery package."
This happens because the Democrats refuse to list
the damn facts.
This is what happens every single time:
the Democrats do everything possible to 'accommodate' the Republican position and then get attacked
anyway...Here, they did everything possible to change their bill to please Republicans and nothing is
happening except full-scale GOP opposition accompanied by a constant barrage of GOP attacks against them
as big-spending, reckless, wealth-transferring liberals."

"Republicans played this properly, unlike the
constantly-capitulating Dems the past decade. It's Obama's chasing of the magic 'bipartisan'
pony that deserves scorn, because no number of concessions was going to get him a single
Republican vote in the House. The Senate is different, and he'll get crossover support there which
he can use to laud his 'bipartisanship'. But House Republicans? Screw them. They are irrelevant,
unpopular, and should henceforth be treated as such." -- the great and powerful Kos,

He spoke out forcefully in defense of Obama's

I was thinking about talking points for dems.
Where are the progressives and Dems on TV fighting back?
They need to speak up like Digby and Bartcop
and pin this all on the Republicans as we don't have Bush
to kick around anymore, something like:
So let's review: The Republicans drive the whole
country into the ground, and create a new Depression, just like the 1930s.
The Republicans create the Depression by out
of control tax cuts for the rich, out of control 'deregulation' of banks
and
hedge funds, speculation bubbles in mortgages
and real estate, and finally, out of control spending by the military-industrial
complex for wars we have no business fighting
-- all of which quickly leads to a new guilded age for the super-rich and
huge corporations.
Meanwhile, having stolen all the money from the
poor, bankrupting the entire middle class, and sending millions of families
into
the streets after losing their homes to predatory
banks --all thanks once again to the Republicans-- the Republicans now
want
more tax cuts for the rich and and a sudden end
to deficit spending, which will create an even worse 21st century Depression.
Of course, we know Republicans hate the idea
of putting people to work and spending on the common good, like the
National Mall, which is the only thing that may
stop this growing depression.
But only two days after American business announces
60,000+ jobs lost in one single day the Republicans, under the control
of a drug addict, child-sex vacationer, multi-millionaire
ultra right-wing radio host, all vote against saving the country.
The Republicans all vote to not support the new
President -- in a crisis much worse than 9-11, where a lot more is at stake.
Of course when someone even asked questions about
our disappearing rights under the Constitution, the Republicans all called
it
"treason" and not acceptable not to support the
President. The Republicans and their Great Leader Rush wants the President
and
the country to fail-that is what their no stimulus
vote said to all Americans.
Rush and the Republicans are traitors to our country,
plain and simple. They want the country to fail and thats both un-American
and unacceptable. The Republicans should be tarred
and feathered by every man, woman and child who is suffering due the
Depression caused by these Republican selfish
jerks.

Excerpt It is possible that Obama genuinely believes
in reaching out to Republicans or perhaps he is just going through
the motions because he knows the American people
favor bipartisanship. But he can no longer harbor any
real hope that his overtures to the GOP will
bring significant votes for his policies.
On Wednesday, when the House voted on the $819
billion stimulus bill, which many economists say is vital
for the United States to avoid a possible depression,
not a single Republican supported the legislation.
The Democrats had to provide all the 244 votes
that sent the package over to the Senate, where
leading Republicans, including McCain, have already
announced their determination to fight the bill."
They did the same thing to Clinton, remember?
Not one Fascist dog voted for the Clinton plan which gave America its

THE POLIO CRUSADE Monday, February 2, 2009 at 9 pm (check local

In the summer of 1950 fear gripped the residents
of Wytheville, Virginia. Movie theaters shut down,
baseball games were cancelled and panicky parents
kept their children indoors - anything to keep them
safe from an invisible invader. Outsiders
sped through town with their windows rolled up and bandanas
covering their faces. The unluckiest victims
died or were left paralyzed in the wake of the devastating
and contagious virus. Polio had struck in Wytheville.
The town was in the midst of a full-blown epidemic.
That year alone, more than 33,000 Americans fell
victim - half of them under the age of ten.

Democratic governments and laws are created in
order to establish a framework for regulating human
behavior in order to serve the common good.
Anyone who takes time to study history can see why
regulation and consumer protection has to be
one of the prime domestic missions of a modern government.
We accept the need for a police force, as it is
obvious that law abiding citizens need protection [or at least, the
perception of justice] from people who
cannot behave within the legal framework of society. Why does the Right
have trouble granting that corporations are equally
in need of control and regulation? Time and time again history
has shown us that Big Business cannot be trusted
to behave in the best interests of society and must be regulated.
So here we go again.

Excerpt. On the Steelers first drive of the second half
there were three questionable calls that helped the Steelers.
On the first penalty of that drive, how could
the officials call that facemask penalty on Rodgers-Cromartie
when Santonio Holmes was also holding his facemask?
On the second penalty, the refs had no business
throwing the flag unless they were giving a penalty
to Roethlisberger for intentional grounding.
There was just clearly no roughing the passer on that play..
But what’s really bothering me is what happened
at the end of the game.
I just can’t believe that the refs did not review
the last play of the game. Seriously?
The last play of the NFL season was questionable
and the refs didn’t review it?
If they reviewed it, there was a great chance
it would have been overturned because of the empty hand rule.
Not to mention because of the penalty called on
Lamar Woodley for taking his helmet off,
the Cardinals would have had a realistic last
chance from around the 35 yard line.
The strange thing about that penalty is that it
showed that the refs cared more about calling a penalty
on Woodley that had no affect on the game, then
reviewing a play that could have affected the game.
Would the Cardinals still have probably lost?
Probably, but why not give them the chance they earned.
I guess if you're a Steelers fan, you thought the referees did a great
job.
That Arizona coach could've seperated his shoulder from all the calls
he had to challenge.
PittsburgH was no match for the Cardinals but those refs are tough to

In Tulsa they have a Furr's Cafeteria.
They used to have several here, now it's down to just the orginal
store.
Mrs Bart was a waitress for them back in 1972 or so, that's when
I started eating there.
Thirty seven years I've been going there and I always ate the
same thing: chopped beef.
I know, a burger is a burger, but these were super-tasty.
Thirty seven years.
They're grilled over a charcoal flame - for sure that makes a
difference.
Get that on a plate with some real, handmade mashed potatos*
and some brown gravy
and it's like being back in grandma's kitchen (assuming you had
a Grandma.)
What's what I ate there every time - for thirty seven years.
Sunday I woke up hungry so I drove over to Furr's and got my
chopped beef
and it was totally and absolutely devoid of any flavor, whatsoever.
I've written about this before concerning Mexican food:
How is it possivble to drain all the flavor out of ground beef?
If you go to any grocery store in Tulsa and buy regular ground beef
or ground chuck
or chopped sirloin and fry it in a skillet and add salt &
pepper it tastes OK, so WTF?
Thirty seven years I've been going there and suddenly my signature
meal sucks?
I told the cashier - she had the bad fortune to say, "So
how was everything?" and I
told her, "I've been coming here for thirty seven years and never
had a complaint.".
Sidebar: Can you imagine *me* not having any complaints for thirty seven
years?
I continued, "The chopped beef was totally tasteless and that's
why I come here," and she replaied, "They're always looking
for ways to cut costs," to which I replied, "So they cut out the flavor?"
I'm going to call and complain today - Monday.
I might even record it for BCR
148.
About BCR
148 - I mostly finished it, but there wasn't
enough humor in it, so I'm going
to record another show today and tomorrow and I'll combine them
for a double-disker.
