Cheney puts head in noose
Excerpt:
So what was Cheney thinking? My guess is that
he fears he is in trouble. This fear has been created by Obama, but indirectly.
Obama has declined to launch a prosecution of
Cheney for war crimes, as many in his party (and outside it) would like.
He has set up a review of detention, rendition
and interrogation policies. And he has simply declassified many of the
infamous torture memos kept under wraps by Bush.
He has the power to do this, and much of the time
it is in response to outside requests. But as the memos have emerged,
the awful truth of what Cheney actually authorised
becomes harder and harder to deny. And Cheney is desperately trying
to maintain a grip on the narrative before it
grips him by the throat.
The threat, however subtle, is real. Eric Holder,
the new attorney-general, while eschewing a formal investigation, has told
Republicans "prosecutorial and investigative
judgments must depend on the facts, and no one is above the law". The justice
department is also sitting on an internal report
into the calibre of the various torture memos drafted by Bush appointees
in
the Office of Legal Counsel. The report has apparently
already found the memos beneath minimal legal credibility, which
implies they were ordered up to make the law
fit the already-made decision to torture various terror suspects.
Put the bastards on trial.
They put the lives of every American traveling outside this country
in danger .
How many men and women and children were raped?
How many men and women and children were kidnapped?
How many men and women and children were tortured?
How many men and women and children were murdered?
Don't we have a right to know what they did in our name with our money?

Norm Coleman's
a sore loser
But why won't the press label him like they did Gore?
Excerpt:
Any day now, a three-judge panel in Minnesota
will rule on Norm Coleman's lawsuit to overturn the results of the recount,
which was completed in January. The complete
hand recount concluded that Sore Loser Coleman lost to Al Franken by 225
votes.
Coleman demanded a full court case; today, almost
nobody, including Coleman's own attorney, thinks the Nazi pig will prevail
in
the judges' upcoming ruling, which follows a
tedious seven-week trial.
End of story, and after a drawn-out, 18-week process,
Franken will finally be seated in the U.S. Senate, right? Wrong.
If Franken prevails, Coleman will then have another
10 days to file yet another appeal, this one to the Minnesota Supreme
Court.
If Coleman loses there as well, Republican leaders
in Congress are encouraging him to not give up his legal challenge and
take his
case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which
could create a scenario in which the Minnesota election might not get decided
until the fall -- almost a year after voters
went to the polls -- even if the Supreme Court refuses to hear the appeal.
As we discovered in Florida back in 2000, the
U.S. election system is hopelessly fucked. And when contests are close
and invite
unprecedented scrutiny, questions always arise.
But states do their best to ensure accuracy, and in the end, even in ridiculously
narrow contests, a winner has to be declared
and the loser has to accept defeat

The first time Ryan Moats touched a football
in an NFL game he ran it 40-yards for a touchdown. Currently, Moats plays
for the Houston Texans in the football mad Lone
Star State. This would seem to be a charmed life. But none of that protected
Moats from one of the uglier cases of DWB (driving
while black) that's come across the wires. Moats' money and fame
couldn't insulate him. A police dashboard video
camera, however, recorded the ugly interaction shedding light on a practice
all too common in these United States.
Moats was rushing, hazard lights on, with his
wife, Tamishia and her family to the hospital. Tamishia's mother was dying
from
advanced breast cancer, and the hospital put
out the word that they had to get there right away if they wanted to say
good bye.
But then their lives collided with a nasty-ass
racxist cop and the Moats family ordeal became more than a personal tragedy...
Moats said after the fact, "For him to not even
be sympathetic at all, and basically we're dogs or something
and we don't matter -- it basically shocked me,"
he said.
I saw the tape - I guess you did, too - and that
racist cop was waaaay out of conttrol.
I saw his apology, too, and I didn't believe
a word of it. He was sorry he fucked with a
person who was in a position to put a spotlight
on a racist cop.
Bad cops get off on "hassling niggers," and that's
what this looked like to me.
If Moats wasn't an NFL player, he'd just be another "one of them" lying
about a cop.

I'm still waiting for the Republicans to say "April
Fools" after presenting their "Alternative Budget".
Surely they can't be serious. What the Republicans
are proposing is the old Bush budget that got us
into this mess in the first place. Surely they
don't think that going back to the Bush era policies are
going to fix the economy. But perhaps when you
have a party that advocates failure as success,
as Rush Limbaugh has done, then this budget proposal
of theirs is consistent with that goal.
