"If it's 2012 and our party is defined by Palin
and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we're headed for a blowout. That's
just the truth."
-- John Weaver, a top adviser to Utah Governor John Huntsman,

Excerpt: The Cheney clan is not known for their restraint
when it comes to launching a verbal carpet-bombing campaign, but even for
them,
this is flame-thrower language. Ron Elving's
explanation is almost certainly accurate, but only to a point. His analysis
leaves off the
one central and defining motive behind Cheney's
thunderous defense of himself and the activities of his administration.
He was scared, I think. He was scared the real
stuff is going to come out. He was scared of the universal damnation that
will
come down upon him if the truth comes out. Finally,
I believe he was scared of going to prison.
But why? The American public has been aware of
our use of torture for some time now. The Obama administration has made
it
all too clear that they have strong reservations
about prosecuting the architects of the Bush administration's torture policy,
and that any meaningful actions along those lines
are highly unlikely to be taken.
Why, then?
It is because Cheney knew, when he began his media
assault, that the worst of the horrors inflicted upon detainees at his
specific
command are not yet widely known. If the real
stuff comes into full public light, he feared the general outrage will
be so furious and
all-encompassing that the Obama administration
will have no choice but to reverse itself and seek prosecutions of those
Bush-era
officials who specifically demanded those barbaric
acts be inflicted upon prisoners.
"I think that peobably Obama is somewhat more
analytical, and he makes sure he hears from everybody in the room on an
issue. And if they don’t speak up, he calls
on them. Bush was interested in hearing different points of
view but didn’t go out of his way to make sure everybody spoke
if they hadn’t spoken up before." -- Robert Gates, asked
to compare his last two bosses,
Link
"Look at what happened to people who spoke
up in the Bush administration. Generale Shinsiceki spoke up and was fired. Paul ONeil spoke up, and was fired.
Richard Clarke spoke up and was fired. George tenet kissed ass and got
the medal of freedom. Condi kissed ass and got to go shopping
for shoes. Powell kissed ass and got to stick around becuase he spoke up
in private." -- Bobwurst, Link
"President Obama is "probably...somewhat more
analytical" than George Bush in the same way that Albert Einstein is probably somewhat more intelligent
than a lima bean. A dead lima bean. A dead lima bean that's been stepped
on." -- nygenzer, Link
Excerpt: If you didn't know better, you might have thought
you'd been transported back in time to last summer's GOP Nazicon 2008.
Thousands of people packed into an arena. A lineup
of Republican elected officials blasting the liberal agenda of Democrats
and the mainstream media. Boos every time Pelosi's
name is mentioned. And Sen. John McCain, front and center behind the podium.
This was not, however, a Republican event. At
least not officially.
It was the annual meeting of the National Rifle
Association, which used its convention here in Phoenix as a platform to
rally 60,000
attendees Friday against what a lineup of speakers
called a growing hostility toward gun rights under the Obama administration.
At the "Celebration of American Values Leadership
Forum" in the U.S. Airways Arena, headliners ranging from McCain to Romney
affirmed their support for the Second Amendment
- often launching attacks on Democrats for wanting to limit constitutional
rights."
I have a question:
Why weren't Republicans allowed to carry concealed weapons at last summer's
convention?
Republicans think everyone - even children - should own and carry a
gun, so why the ban?
Could it be because they were afraid some nut might take a shot at McCain?
Are they saying sometimes people with guns misbehave?
Might want to chat with Mr Graham of Florida,
retired senator with all the "little" notebooks full of dates and times.
His notes say what Ms Pelosi says....but I guess
we can let that go...why seek the truth when we can hang her?
How Ken Starr-ish...

If someone has proof Pelosi is telling the truth - what are they waiting
for?
And can we find a way to excuse her for giving Bush a blank check to
commit crimes?

"Besides filling his cabinet with militarists
and members of the white establishment, he has selected very few persons of color. His support for a
trillion dollar bailout of Wall Street shows that he has sold out himself, and the nation's poor to be a tool
of the bankers. While pledging to withdraw 'combat troops' from Iraq, he also promises to dramatically increase
troop level in Afghanistan and also increase overall troop levels by almost 100,000 warm bodies. Obama
recognizes Israel's right to 'defend' itself by bombing the prisoners of
Gaza."

So, Cindy thinks Obama is a racist?
Cindy thinks Obama should've let the banks
fail?
Cindy thinks Obama should leave al Qaeda
alone?
Cindy thinks Obama should've solved the
Middle East problem by now?
Cindy, it may be time for you to go back to private life.
Bartcop: Why would Nancy Pelosi have to
step down if she knew about the torture? Is it a crime to know about torture?
She may have lied about being briefed, or she
may be mistaken, or maybe she wasn’t mistaken. None of these things are
criminal.
It is not criminal to know about torture and
do nothing unless you are one of the torturers or in the chain of command.
I haven’t yet gone back and read your pages from
2001 to 2003, but my recollection is clear that we assumed they were torturing.
The mind plays tricks, but am I wrong? We assumed
it was going on.
Let’s investigate who ordered and knew about and
committed the torture.
Without any grants of immunity on the table.
E.L. Deflagrante
In many/most states it's a crime to know about a serious crime and
not report it.
Tim McVeigh's friend went to prison for not dropping a dime on his
Republican ass.
But Pelosi should step down for telling a known criminal that he would
not be brought to justice
no matter how many serious crimes he was committing at that time or
in the future.
Excerpt: A May 17 Politico article reported that
Obama "comes to Notre Dame as a new Gallup poll found that for the first
time,
the majority of Americans are anti-abortion."
In fact, the Gallup poll found that a majority of Americans, 51 percent,
identify themselves as "pro-life" -- not "anti-abortion."
I don't believe that.
IF it happened, it must've been a question that was so poorl;y
worded that people got confused.
And the labels people choose to put on themselves mean nothing compared
to the only question
that counts when it comes to abortion - should women and doctors
go to jail if an abortion occurs?
There's a 30-point difference there - so why did Politico
lie?
"Obama's just the big straw that finally broke
the camel's back." -- alumnus David DiFranco, calling for the firing
of Notre Dame's president,
the Rev. John Jenkins, for
inviting Obama to speak, Link
Those Catholics set the bar on crazy, don't they?
Of course, they'd have no problem inviting Der Monkey,
who holds the Western Hemisphere record for most murders...
Did Nancy sign anything authorizing torture?
did she write any legal briefs? send any memos?
was she part the whole deal from the word go?.
C'mon - I'm not her biggest fan, but let's all
get some perspective here.
Jimmy Mack
We could make a long list of the crimes Pelosi didn't commit
but she still gave Bush permission to commit all the crimes he wanted.
I disagree.
It's possible her story has been - technically
- consistent, but I saw her flounder and flop around
about what she knew, but she didn't really know,
they said they had torture in the bag of tricks
but didn't really plan on using it, but then
someone told an aide, but not her, etc.
It sounded worse than a nine year old boy explaining
how the window got broken.
For me, it was the worst stumbling at a let-me-explain-myself
news conference in many years.
Larry Craig's Minneapolis Men's Room account
was more convincing.
When water-boarding or other torture methods were
first admitted to being used the ranking Democrat
on the committee that was overseeing this filed
a protest. Pelosi had moved up and Harmon was in that role.
We should not be killing our own just because
the Republicans target one of us.
That's an odd sentence.
I assume you wrote it when you were upset?
Am I the type of guy who wants to "kill our own"
if a Rethug "targets a Democrat?"
The GOP is lying. The media is lying in
plain view.
You won't get any argument from me on that, but
I saw the press conference.
If Pelosi is innocent, it's the
worst example of telling the truth I've ever seen.
There is absolutely no evidence presented that
contradicts Pelosi. None.
There is evidence only that a crappy document
was made up after the fact.
I think her own words present the worst case against
her.
She has a lot of trouble getting and keeping
her story straight.
The media is lying when they claim Panetta is
disagreeing with Pelosi.
He is not saying the CIA is telling the truth
when the document is presented as proof.
He said very carefully (weasely) that the CIA
doesn’t make a habit of lying to congress.
I’m getting tired of people - yes this time
I mean to include you – stab Pelosi in the back.
She is standing up to the GOP and we attack her.
What is wrong with us?
<snippage>
Pelosi is the one screaming the loudest that torture
is wrong
and standing up to the current president who
wants to ignore it.
zenferret
To be a big fan of Nancy Pelosi, one almost has to be a Bush-wasn't-that-bad
Democrat.
How can you back the person who guaranteed Bush he wouldn't be held
accountable?
Excerpt: Did Maureen Dowd commit a firing offense by,
she says, inadvertently lifting a paragraph from Talking Points Memo?
Dowd's Sunday column on the debate over torture
contained a paragraph taken nearly word-for-word from Josh Marshall.
When a TPMCafe blogger pointed this out, Dowd
quickly admitted error and properly attributed the relevant paragraph.
This is the second time in two years that Dowd
has been caught. Last year Dowd got
into hot water for not attributing
the reporting work of her assistant.
Her claim is that a friend must've read TPM and then mentioned the paragraph
to Dowd without attribution.
But the definition of plagiarism is the "use or close imitation
of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."
So it doesn't matter of Dowd stole from TPM or her imaginary "friend."
In either case, she presented the words as her own when she clearly knew
they weren't.
Plus, there was maybe one word that was different, which means Dowd
AND her
imaginary friend both have a photographic memory - which is kinds hard
to buy.
Excerpt: We live in truly enlightened times. Miss California
Carrie Prejean and Perez Hilton, traded barbs over gay marriage.
Now the very universe sits rapt as a walking
air mattress and a human glory hole engage in an incessant bitchfight
over an issue that neither of them really cares
about. Behold the first ever pissing contest between an over privileged
white bitch and the most fey gay since Liberace...
In the defense of marriage corner stands Ms. Prejean,
toting a surname straight out of a Louisiana swamp. Prejean is a
staunch fundamentalist Christian…who takes racy
photos in her spare time and even harangued pageant officials for a
more voluptuous set of tits, which they dutifully
supplied. I’ll bet money that this blonde simpleton never met a married
man
she didn’t like. But that’s OK, because they’ll
have biblically sanctioned sex; you know, a man and a woman in the bathroom
stall of a bar, just after doing coke off of
each other’s asses. She’s a romantic!
> Many Obama voters saw him as the "perfect"
candidate and it turns out he's human.
Too bad you and other bloggers, political pundits,
the DNC, and the MSM didn't show the same fair openmindedness
when it came to evaluating Hillary during the
primary. After all, she's human too, but everyone still expected
her to be perfect
and would attack her at any misstep, no matter
how small. For certain, no one would have ever given her all the
free passes
and lame excuses if she had flip-flopped on such
major campaign issues as much as Obama has been doing lately.
The way I read that - you accused me of pointing
out Hillary's flaws and expecting her to be perfect?
There were so many hundreds of people doing that, I didn't feel
the need.
Of course, all the Obama supporters have to say
in response to those who bring up
these inconvenient truths are "sore loser", "just
get over it" and my favorite -- "racist".
A little too much deja-vu between the Bush and
Obama camps, don't you think?
Kathleen
*I* certainly didn't like being called a racist, but I have no problem
saying that these handjob states that are
trying to secede are doing so because Obama is Black and they can't
see themselves being governed by "one of them."
"If you want to see the PittsburgH Steelers,
invite us when we don't win the Super Bowl. As far as I'm concerned, Obama would've
invited Arizona if they had won."
-- super-stupid linebacker James Harrison, who thinks just like Tiger Woods,
Link
Hey Moron, the winner gets invited to the White House.
How can you be an adult in sports and not know that?
You say Obama woud've invited Arizona if they'd won?
Gee, did some teammates help you out with that difficult leap?
No president can invite every loser in the country to the White
House.
And why would Obama give a crap about meeting you?
Excerpt: The decline and fall of the Republican Party
in recent years has been so widespread that the party has lost support
among nearly every major demographic subgroup
of likely voters across the country, according to a new Gallup poll,
but they lie so there's no telling what the real
facts are.
The party lost support among a broad swath of
Americans, from conservative to liberal, low-income to high-income,
married to unmarried, and elderly to young. The
only subgroup in which the party saw a slight increase in support from
2001 to 2009 was frequent churchgoers.
Churchgoers are the people who are most behind the Bush/Cheney torture
program.
How about that!
Bush & Cheney's support with pro-torture voters is up slightly.
Couldn't help but notice in the Tulsa World link

Perhaps all the fumes/chemicals of the drilling/extraction

I think a more logical explanatiin would be people tend to retire in
warm weather.
Randi Rhodes, Ed Schultz and all those assholes

racists etc., are dead to me.
Fuck 'em and I personally want nothing to do
