Comcast plans to buy a majority stake in NBC
for $13.75 billion, giving the nation's largest cable TV operator
control of the TV network, an array of cable
channels and a major movie studio.
Although the deal could mean that movies could
reach cable more quickly after showing in theaters,
and that TV shows could appear faster on cell
phones and other devices, it was already raising concerns
that Comcast would wield too much power over
entertainment. Indeed, if the deal clears regulatory
and other hurdles, Comcast would rival the heft
of Disney.
Comcast, which already serves a quarter of all
U.S. households that pay for TV, would gain control of t NBC,
Telemundo and about two dozen cable channels,
including USA, Bravo and Syfy. It also would have regional
sports networks, Universal Pictures and theme
parks.
The deal is a major turning point for Comcast,
catapulting them to a media conglomerate
and above the pack of cable operators that remain
content to run their regional cable systems.
It's all changing, right before our eyes.
The networks are going to take a back seat to whatever's next on the
internet.
Will we have "TV shows" ten years from now?

No way tiger is in criminal trouble. A basic
careless driving citation is the worst he would get which is a civil penalty.
But assuming he would get a reckless driving
(a criminal traffic offense in Florida), he would at worst get a withhold
of adjudication and court costs.
You might be
right.
When the police explained their decision
to whitewash everything, it sounded like it was written by Tiger's PR people.
But if you or I were behind the wheel while
falling in and out of consciousness, we'd be arrested for damn sure.
His career is not in trouble. He
might have to take a few tourneys off to heal and deal with the side stuff,
but before long he will be back on the
links. I don't see him losing any significant sponsorships on this either.

This almost surely marks the end of Huckabee's

Subject: Filibuster Rule must Die
In spite of what you hear in the news it does
not take 60 votes in the Senate to pass a bill.
It is not in the Constitution nor are there any
laws that require 60 votes. The 60 vote barrier
is an obscure Senate rule called the filibuster
which requires 60 votes to end debate and get to a vote.
This is a rule that can be changed.
In 2005 when Democrats used the filibuster Republican
threatened to end the practice in a move called
the "nuclear option" which is a procedure for
changing the filibuster rule. The mere threat of ending the filibuster
caused the Democrats to back down from using
it. Now the Democrats have a far larger majority in the Senate
than the Republicans did and the Republicans
are filibustering almost every bill. Their strategy seems to be to get
America to fail and then run in 2010 on the idea
that Democrats are as bad as they are. But the Democrats can
put an end to the Filibuster and bring back majority
rule as the Constitution intended.
So we don't really need 60 votes to pass health
care reform. We only need 50.
It's time the Democrats get tough and use the
power that the People elected them to use.
We need reform and this rule is in the way. The
time has come for Democrats to step up
and quit acting like they are in the minority
and use the nuclear option and put the filibuster down.
Democrats can't allow the Republicans to steal power in the 2010 election because of a record of failure.
