"Sarah is the single most self absorbed, self-centered,
divisive individual I have ever known. Evangelical Americans don’t get it.
They don’t understand that she is a compulsive liar. Sarah demands worship. She is not to
be questioned – not her message or her motives. She is to be worshipped. Period. If
one does not worship her – then she and her small but bizarrely devoted band of followers
label them haters (for men) or jealous (if one is a woman). They don’t get that she is manipulative
and stunningly vindictive." -- Afraid to use

Excerpt: From time to time, I'll get into a debate with
a right-winger about whether Sarah Palin is actually stupid
or if liberals are just hopelessly biased against
her. They claim this bias comes from the fact that liberals
are scared of her electability, her charm, her
looks, her femininity, her Christianity, her ability connect to
the common man and her overall wonderfulness.
So, the theory is that we have all collectively decided
that she is the best Republican candidate in
some secret liberal meeting and are conspiring against her
because we are afraid of how brilliant and electable
she really is.
Now, there are a couple of problems with this
theory. There are no opinion leaders on the left with
Pigboy-like authority who can command all other
progressives to think the same thing and use the same
arguments against one person. In other words,
we all think she is stupid because she is in fact stupid,
not because some liberal cabal told us to think
that.
How come we don't call Newt Gingrich stupid? Or
Dick Cheney or Kay Bailey Hutchinson?
We don't make those charges against those people
because we know that they are not dullards.
They're all clever in their own way. Mitt Romney
is greasy, Michael Steele is a clown and Tom DeLay
is dirty, but we don't go after their mental
acuity like we do with Sarah Palin because they're not as
dumb as her (not even Michael Steele).
"The problem is that Paline is ignorant about
major national political issues, and has made no apparent effort to remedy that ignorance...There
is always the outside chance that Palin is deliberately pretending to be much more ignorant than she actually
is, as Ike did when he was president; perhaps for the purpose of getting her political enemies to
underestimate her (which was one of Eisenhower’s motives). However, there are many obvious differences
between Palin’s situation and Ike’s, such as the fact that only one of them had already proven his competence..."

I love when people like Mark G spout naive nonsense
that suggests that, if only we could completely overhaul our entire political
system
and human nature overnight, we could live in
a utopia. I'd have a better chance of my major bank mortgage holder
deciding to clear the
negatives on my credit history. It just ain't
gonna happen.
The fact is, this is a messy, complicated world
that often presents us with problems that have no good answer. I had an
arguement with my 18
year old niece on Turkey Day, as an example.
Having become an "expert" on communism (I think she read a book and the
Wikipedia page on it),
she has decided to make a documentary on how
we should switch over to a communist system. Never mind that she kept confusing
politics with
economics, the fact is that communism can only
work in small groups where every individual feels accountable for his actions.
Once you get
to big groups, you get a large number of people
trying to game the system and screwing it up for everyone else. It's just
the way people work.
That's how complex laws evolve. A system is put
in place, people learn how to exploit it, then there is an attempt
to fill the holes,
then people find new once, lather, rinse, repeat.
In the end, you've got to work with the system
you've got and try to make what improvements you can on a smaller scale
so they can be evaluated and tweaked to
work as well as can be expected. Cynical, but realistic.

"I have come to the conclusion that the real
reason this gifted communicator has become so bad at communicating is that he doesn't really believe
a word that he is saying. He couldn't convey that health-care reform would be somehow cost-free
because he knows it won't be. And he can't adequately convey either the imperatives or the military
strategy of the war in Afghanistan because he doesn't really believe in it either. He feels colonized
by mistakes of the past. He feels trapped by the hand that has been dealt him." -- Tina Brown, Link
"Obama, at a most inopportune time, with a
new war-strategy rollout and the health-care debate at a critical juncture, is managing to turn off
each segment of the electorate. The Tina Brown liberal sophisticates are convinced he's faking it.
The moderates and independents think they are victims of a bait and switch. And conservatives are crowing
that they were right all along about Obama -- he's the worst of Jimmy Carter and George McGovern.
It is, from a political perspective, a mess. But it is, after all, what is naturally expected to flow from a
candidate who let everyone form their own impression of who he is and what he stands for. It is what comes from
delegating major decisions and legislative draftsmanship to others." -- Jennifer Rubin, Link
"We're seeing some things we've not seen before.
The president gave a war speech, and the next day the nation didn't seem to rally around him.
This is not the way it's gone in the past. LBJ, Nixon, Bush -- when they addressed the nation about the
wars they led, they received immediate support." -- Piggy Noonan, Link
Can Obama get himself out of these multiple messes?
One thing's for sure - he'll need to come to work to solve them.

"Palin has not grown in the year since the
election. Those of us who hoped that Palin had been “hidden” by the campaign know the truth now.
She still is what she was. She is smart, but not book-smart. She has common sense, but not practical wisdom.
These are not fatal flaws, but she shows no signs of changing or recognizing them. Palin lacks
the intellectual skills needed to be an effective President. Most important, she does not seem to recognize this
and shows no sign of getting them." -- John Mark Reynolds,

Excerpt: Some parishioners in the Church of Obama discovered
last week that their spiritual leader is a false prophet...
It was bound to happen eventually. Obama had become
to his youthful supporters a vessel for all of their liberal hopes.
They saw him as a transformational figure who
would end war, save the Earth from global warming, restore the economy
-- and still be home for dinner. They lashed
out at anybody who dared to suggest that Obama was just another politician, subject to calculation, expediency and vanity
like all the rest.
Certainly, Obama gets some blame for encouraging
the messianic cult as he stumped for change and hope.
"I am asking you to stop settling for what the
cynics say we have to accept," he would say in speeches.
"Let us reach for what we know is possible: A
nation healed. A world repaired. An America that believes again."...
But at least as much blame for the disillusionment
goes to progressives who simply expected too much of him. Some are
disappointed that the Nobel Peace Prize winner
proposed even higher defense spending than George W. Bush did -- but
Obama never said he would cut the Pentagon's
budget. Many liberals are disappointed that he isn't pushing the "public
option"
more forcefully in the health-care debate --
but it was never something Obama emphasized during the campaign. For all
of
Obama's soaring oratory, it was plain even during
the campaign that his record was that of an incrementalist.
Hey Bart,
I think you'd benefit a lot from a Mac Computer,
and I think I can buy you one. My questions though are:
a) Laptop or iMac?
b) Would any other far better off readers be

so you can get a top of the

c) How did I get stuck being the one doing this

Rex, that was way cool of you to offer but I tried
a Mac and I was non-compatible.
It worked fine but I'm still using Netscape 4.7
to build the page (old dog, new tricks)
and the Mac had trouble adjusting to a system
that old so I found myself using more
steps to complete the page and the last thing
I need is more steps :).
It is easy to speculate that Hillary would have
removed us from Afghanistan.
Please fill us in on the evidence that supports
this reasoning.
Unlike Bob Parry, I can't read minds and I don't
think I said that.
Is it your position that Obama's decisions are
consistent with his campaign?
Are you saying we got the same Obama we voted
for?
He ran to Hillary's left, and he's no longer
doing that.
Personally, I don't see the evidence.
I see a leader dealt a hand that led him to refocus.
I trust him.

I trust him too, as I said yesterday.
But I wish I could figure out what he's thinking.
How is tackling Afghanistan a good idea under the current circumstances?
And how will we know when we've won the war?

Conan O'Brien,
Excerpt: On June 10, 2006, three detainees were found
dead in their individual cells. Without any autopsy or investigation,
U.S. military officials proclaimed "suicide by
hanging" as the cause of each death, and immediately sought to exploit
the episode as proof of the evil of the detainees.
Admiral Harry Harris, the camp's commander, said it showed
"they have no regard for life" and that the suicides
were "not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetric warfare
aimed at us here at Guantanamo"; another official
anonymously said that the suicides showed the victims were
"committed jihadists (who) will do anything they
can to advance their cause," while another sneered that
"it was a good PR move to draw attention."
Questions immediately arose about how it could
be possible that three detainees kept in isolation and under constant
and intense monitoring could have coordinated
and then carried out group suicide without detection, particularly since
the military claimed their bodies were not found
for over two hours after their deaths. But from the beginning, there
was
a clear attempt on the part of Guantanamo officials
to prevent any outside investigation of this incident.
To allay the questions that quickly emerged, the
military announced it would conduct a sweeping investigation and publicly
release its finding, but it did not do so until
more than two years later when -- in August, 2008 -- it released a heavily
redacted
reported purporting to confirm suicide by hanging
as the cause. Two of the three dead detainees were Saudis and one
was
Yemeni and they had participated in hunger strikes
to protest the brutality, torture and abuse to which they were routinely
subjected.
Perversely, one of the three victims had been
cleared for release earlier that month.

"Harry Reid trails two potential rivals by
significant margins, according to a new poll. Reid has gone on TV with several early ads touting his
success in helping the troubled Las Vegas economy through rough times, pointing to loans he helped secure
for CityCenter, a major construction project on the Strip that employs thousands of workers. But those ads
-- a GOP source tells us Reid has spent $950K running the ads -- have not moved his favorable numbers;
38% view him favorably, while 49% see him in an unfavorable light, virtually identical to his ratings
in the Oct. '09 poll."God str -- Reid Wilson, Link

I loved that you called a page DADGAD. In the
90's I worked at a startup company called Transperformance.
They invented a guitar that can switch between
tunings while playing. The first one they sold was to Jimmy Page.
At one point the circuit board and all his cables
were hand soldered by me. They later upgraded him to a newer
designed circuit board, but to this day he is
likely still using cables that I either built or helped to design. If you
see him
playing either a gold top or a purple (his signature
prototype) Les Paul with a big black cube instead of the usual bottom
bracket, and a row of buttons in the top right
front, and an LCD on the top, that's it.
He used to need to switch guitars on some songs,
(including Kashmir) but at least during the Page/Plant tours he used
the Performer, as it is now called. Gibson has
since put out an inferior version of a self-tuning guitar... after years
of telling
Transperformance they weren't interested. On
a side note, one time I house sat for the President/Designer.
Page's guitar tech called with questions, and
I could hear the guitar god in the background.
I was so nervous, I must have sounded like a
complete idiot...I'm afraid I wasn't much help.

Tiger Woods
alienates Blacks with white girlfriends
Excerpt: Amid all the headlines generated by Tiger Woods'
troubles little attention has been given to the race
of the women linked with the world's greatest
golfer. Except in the black community.
When three white women surfaced, in addition to
his blonde, Swedish wife, blogs, airwaves and
barbershops started humming, and Woods' already
tenuous standing among many blacks took a beating.
Black women have long felt slighted by the tendency
of famous black men to pair with white women,
and many have a list of current transgressors
at the ready.
"We've discussed this for years among black women,"
said Denene Millner.
"Why is it when they get to this level ... they
tend to go directly for the nearest blonde?"
I wish I could play poker with Tiger Woods.
"They" say he's given his wife $5M to stick

Hate to deviate from the liberal narrative, but
it seems that it is black people
who are enraged about a black man sleeping with
a series of white women.
Especially black women, many of whom are not judging
the characters in this drama by the content of their character.
Hmmm.
Could it be that the liberal trump card in all
issues - that people who deviate
from the left wing party line are racist - might
just possibly be false?
And that the fervent racial hatred in modern America
comes from - now don't get the vapors - your own base?
Just wondering.
Ayn R
I had to read that several times to figure out what you meant.
You're saying it's racist for Blacks to ask why Tiger won't date a Black
woman?
Race is a factor, sure, but wouldn't the same apply to geography?
What if someone from New York refused to date New Yorkers?
It wouldn't be racist to ask why, would it?
They say Robert DeNiro dates only Black women - should whites be angry?
What if a guy dates Asian women only - is he weird?
What about guys who prefer small-breasted women, or tall women?
I think we need to hear from Black women on why Eldrick is in trouble.

Excerpt: A number of what-ifs, or enduring mysteries,
about the Pearl Harbor attack continue to inspire debate. Among them:
Why didn't the US see Japanese planes coming on
radar?
Actually, US Army radar operators did spot the
Japanese air assault on radar. They just did not know what they were seeing.
Radar technology was in its infancy, and an Army
crew was training on a new radar installed at the northern point
of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. On Dec. 7, 1941,
this crew spotted a mass of incoming somethings larger than
they had ever seen. They decided it was probably
some expected US B-17s and reported it as such.
But the radar return looked much different from
what they were used to seeing.
"Why didn't this stir up their curiosity?" Suid
says.
Why did the US Navy ignore the sinking of a Japanese
submarine prior to the attack? At 6:37 on the morning of Dec. 7,
the USS Ward, an old four-stack destroyer, attacked
and destroyed a Japanese mini-sub making its way toward Pearl Harbor.
