Excerpt: As a U.S. senator during the 1960s, I agonized
over the war in Vietnam. After doing all I could to save our troops
and the Vietnamese people from a senseless conflict,
I finally took my case to the public in my 1972 presidential campaign.
Speaking across the nation, I told audiences
that the only upside of the tragedy in Vietnam was that its enormous cost
in
lives and dollars would keep any future administration
from going down that road again.
I was wrong.
Today, I am astounded at Obama's decision to escalate
the equally mistaken war in Afghanistan, and as I listen to
our talented young president explain why he is
adding 30,000 troops -- beyond the 21,000 he had added already
-- I can only think: another Vietnam. I hope
I am incorrect, but history tells me otherwise.
Obama might have good reasons for excalating this
war - but I haven't heard them.
Obama said, "I'm conviced this is the right way
to go," but did he give his reasons?
How is fighting Afghanistan/Pakistan going to
stabilize anything?
Is Obama trying to "reason" with al Qaeda like
he's trying to "reason" with the Rethugs?
"If the left manages to drive through a bill
which is opposed by 65 percent of the country on health care, our commitment should be simple - when
we get a majority, we’re repealing the whole thing. And I want every Democrat who is about to sacrifice
their seat for socialized medicine to understand: after you lose your seat, you’re going to lose the
socialized medicine too."

they're not getting, Link
The real message is - if you're going to lose your seat, why not
go down fighting?
The Demo cowards caved in to the Fascist dogs in 1994 and lost
everything
- will they do it again?

their country.

Excerpt: What's taken place in the year since Obama won
the presidency has turned out to be one of the most dramatic
political about-faces in our history. Elected
in the midst of a crushing economic crisis brought on by a decade of
orgiastic deregulation and unchecked greed, Obama
had a clear mandate to rein in Wall Street and remake the
entire structure of the American economy. What
he did instead was ship even his most marginally progressive
campaign advisers off to various bureaucratic
Siberias, while packing the key economic positions in his White House
with the very people who caused the crisis in
the first place. This new team of bubble-fattened ex-bankers and
laissez-faire intellectuals then proceeded to
sell us all out, instituting a massive, trickle-up bailout and systematically
gutting regulatory reform from the inside.
How could Obama let this happen?
Is he just a rookie in the political big leagues,
hoodwinked by Beltway old-timers?
Or is the vacillating, ineffectual servant of
banking interests who Obama really is?...
There's no other way to say it: Barack Obama,
a once-in-a-generation political talent whose graceful conquest
of America's racial dragons en route to the White
House inspired the entire world, has for some reason allowed
his presidency to be hijacked by sniveling, low-rent
shitheads.
Obama pulled a bait-and-switch on us.
If it were any other politician, we wouldn't
be surprised.
Maybe it's our fault, for thinking he was different.
So Matt, how do you feel about all those vicious
lies you told to get him elected?

But you're a liar and a whore, Matt, so I don't trust a single word

George Will got caught?
I had no idea George Will had sex organs.
Maybe that's why Will said, "People will forgive
Tiger."Link He's hoping people will forgive him, too.
I'll say it again - Tiger made a billion dollars by selling the
idea that he was squeaky clean.
So when the squeaky clean billionaire gets caught, over and over, it's
a story.
In his last interview before getting caught, he said, "I
always
put my family first," which was clearly a lie and now he's paying the price for his betrayal.
I realize you like Eldrick and you want things to go back like they
used to be.
I'm sorry, that's not going to happen and that's not my fault.

Excerpt: If there is a single game that comes closest
to recapitulating modern existence - it is poker, where quantitative analysis
and calculated deception come together, and where
skill wins out over luck in the long run, except that most people
don’t have the luxury of waiting until then.
President Obama calls himself a pretty good poker
player, with skills honed back when he took part in a regular game
in Springfield, Ill. The other players in that
game - lobbyists and fellow members of the state Senate - describe him
as
a cautious participant: patient, conservative,
patient, level-headed, patient, affable - and did we mention patient?
That game started more than a decade ago. Today,
Obama confronts more-formidable foes, and for much bigger stakes.
But in his first 10-plus months in office, he
has approached the major issues facing his administration and the country
with
a poker player’s sensibility. That doesn’t mean
that he necessarily has been dealt good hands. It doesn’t even mean that
he has always played his hands well. He hasn’t.
What he has done, though, is to make an effort to read his opponents,
hold his own cards close, keep a straight face,
and wait, calmly, for the winning play...
So, Obama is letting his enemies roll over him - to set them up for
later?

Excerpt: Of course most people know - or should know by

Medical Marijuana:Review and Analysis of Federal

Watching this Congress trying to pass a health
care reform bill is enough to make your head explode.
I've never seen a more dysfunctional unit.
I am about to lose all respect (what little I had left) for Democrats in
Congress.
What happened to representing the people who
voted you into office?
Oh yeah, that's not how it works anymore.
With Democrats like Ben Nelson who need
Republicans? He'll sink the bill over abortion.
And even worse, you have Joe Lieberman,
who has already said he doesn't like the public option
OR Medicare buy-in, and WILL filibuster.
So how can Democrats expect to accomplish reform
that isn't a big fat Christmas gift to insurance
companies?
Who's in charge here?
It appears to be Joe Lieberman.
I wish Obama would come to work, too.
He's the president - why won't he act like it?.
Democrats couldn't see this coming? Yeah,
right.
They done nothing but enable him all the while.
I don't agree any bill is better than no bill.

Excerpt: "After Reagan and Bush the elder, came Clinton
who didn’t inhale. (What a stupid line to
inhect into an argument
but the insane Clinton-haters never pass
up a chance to trash our only double winner in 65 years.) Afterwards
the radical right
found their champion in a particularly dense,
immoral simian, named George Bush. Junior bumbled into office nefariously
and deceptively. Progressively inclined Americans
are now met face to face with the grim reality that perhaps no progressive
presidential contender is ever going to come
forward. At least not one with a chance of being elected. Obama was thought
to
be such a man until, after his election, his
embracement of progressive ideals were revealed as little more than an
election ploy...
Obama is very busy undermining the goals the progressive
community sought by his election. The republicans, anxious to
regain the congressional majority, and get Sarah
Palin or her equivalent elected as president, are attacking the soft underbellies
of the shameful cowards that make up a Super
Majority in Congress. The House and Senate leaders are so frightened by
the
eventuality they may be expected to make a decision
they appear as tiny figures seen from the wrong end of a telescope
- their comparatively tiny voices squeaking in
dismay. With no leader to encourage them, they have predictably abandoned
ship.
They shrink to inconsequence when a rising star
like Alan Grayson wins recognition by the sharp contrast he defines between
himself and his frightened colleagues. Grayson
has no problem standing on the House floor and openly referring to republicans
as “knuckle dragging Neanderthals”. Grayson doesn’t
mix metaphors or message when confronting republican troglodytes for
whom he pays not the least respect. Just as the
republicans daily disparage “liberal” democrats.
Leading by example, in Grayson’s case, has been
a largely thankless task. Imagine Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid, growing
a spine.
The Democratic Super Majority, terrified and
rendered helpless by its new found power, rolls onto its back and hopes
the
republicans will forgive its unexpected and unsought
new powers.
Today’s Congressional Democrats are desperately
reaching for some comfortable purgatory where edging further right is not
acceptable to their base, but any leftward leanings
will anger the republicans. So they compromise, as it were, by floating
like
gas filled balloons that are easily smacked back
and forth across the middle. Obama is the heir apparent of these new, gaseous
democrats."

Excerpt: Tiger Woods’ decision to take “an indefinite

even relief Saturday as golfers, fans and
commentators contemplated the immediate future of a sport without its only

These are tumultuous times for golf after Friday’s
announcement by its No. 1 player that he is taking time out.
“For years to come he will be a figure of fun

“Now we have to see how strong his mind is.”
Seems to me golf is just what Eldrick needs.
They say his wife moved out - so how's he going to "work on his marriage?".
Also, they say (not a joke) Tiger is loading his luxury yacht for a

I went to a basketball game last night - seriously.
Bartcop - at a short-pants sport that isn't boxing?
We got to Oklahoma City early so we could try Irma's
Burger Shack.
Mmmmm buy, them's good burgers.
This is a tiny place, maybe 20 seats - a real throwback to the late
fifties.
Then we went to the game and picked up our tickets.
There were four tickets and there was just two of us, so we had a debate
on
the morality of selling the extra tickets because ticket scalping is
legal in Oklahoma.
But in the end, Wiseguy the Bootlegger quotes Nixon and said, "...but
that would be wrong."
so we gave the tickets to a guy who wanted to see today's best basketball
player (they say).
My good friend Joe fixed us up with excellent tickets.
We were right under the basket and Shaq fell on me - damn he's a heavy
guy.
But Lebron put on a clinic. I was impressed. One time, he was in the
corner and
he f-ing FLEW towards the basket and just as he got there, the ball
appeared and
he slam dunked it to the ooohs and ahhhs of the OKC crowd.
Another time he ran thru the entire team - like he was smoke - and slammed
it in.
The Okie crowd was seeing real basketball (Like I would know :) maybe
for the first time.
Another time he stole the ball and, with nine other dudes chasing him,
he outran them while
he was protecting the ball like a running back while flying thru the
air - then he did a reverse
and back-slammed the ball in and the crowd made a sound like we heard
at that last Vegas
Tequilafest when we all tried the Chinaco Emperador for the first time.
Shaq?
He played a few minutes here and there - if you can call that playing.
He basically leaned on smaller dudes (everyone there was smaller than
Shaq.)
But we had a great time and it's all because Joe in Cleveland fixed
us up with tickets.
Thanks, Joe, I hope you enjoy your Bartcop radio :)
