"Haven't we already given money to rich people.... Shouldn't we be giving money to the
middle?" -- Bush, 2002,
right before Cheney told him to sit down and shut up, Link
Excerpt: There’s a meme circulating among some Democrats
that Republican attacks on Obama’s terrorism policy
in the wake of the thwarted Detroit bombing will
just go away if they are ignored...
Rep. Jane Harman, one of the few Democratic members
of Congress willing to back Obama, was able to
stand up for a low-key approach without sounding
defensive.
Most Dems, however, have been silent, and it seems
like a deliberate strategy. As Karen Finney wrote,
“Democrats are right not to engage the GOP in
playing politics with the security of our country and our people."
But, by not engaging on the substance or backing
up Obama, Congressional Democrats are ceding the initiative
on the national security debate to right-wing
critics like King and Hoekstra. Successfully accusing the other side
of playing politics rarely works on its own—you
also need to explain why one way is right and the other way is wrong.
"President Obama used the terms "terrorism"
and "terrorist" six times in his weekly address to the nation. I don’t know how long
it has actually been since he’s uttered those words. -- Jim DeMint,
one of the leading assholes in the senate, Link
So - that means we're safe now, right?
The GOP says Obama not using the "T" word was putting us in
great danger.
Excerpt: Hate radio and Fox News hate show hosts may be
on vacation from their microphones, but have no doubt,
they and their Republican managers are in full
war room mode, preparing to go shock and awe all over Obama
and the Democrats on what they'll say is the
utter failure to protect your family from terrorism Monday morning.
From Limbaugh to Hannity to Beck to every single
one of the wannabes, they will be blaring "I told you so."
Their guests will be nodding in full agreement
while they sell their hitjob wares. Dick Morris has probably already
written another "blame it on the Dems" hit job
book this week. Newt Gingrich will reminisce about the old days of
blessed contracts with America. Cheney and daughter
will poke their spinning heads from the Dick Cave to castigate
the administration for being weak and porous.
It will be loud and it will be damning.
The tea baggers will be hunch over their radios
ready for tearful marching orders from General Beck.
Rush will call for Obama's impeachment. O'Reilly's
Folks will nearly get out of their rockers. Nearly.
And the Democrats will cower in fear and wet themselves.
"Obama has suffered very greatly in the last
few months because of the fight over health care, and he has very little political capital right now.
So Republicans feel it is in vogue to criticize this president. And remember,
he's on vacation in Hawaii, it’s much different
than being in Texas. Hawaii to many Americans seems like a foreign place. -- Romney spokesman
Kevin Madden, Link
"He's from Hawaii. The man's entitled
to go to his home state for vacation. This entire thing is political." -- Carville, Link
""It's much different than being in Texas." Yeah, uh, that state whose leaders
want it to actually become a foreign place via secession." -- BobbyG, Link
"That’s odd. When the Japanese bombed Pearl
Harbor Americans didn’t think of Hawaii as a “foreign place”, and that was before it was a state." -- okie dokie,
Link
"At the rate he’s going, Obama’s going to have
to be in office for 20 years to equal Bush’s vacation days." -- toonguy, Link
"I’d gladly vacation in Hawaii. But you’d have
to pay me lots to go to Texas, Utah or Oklahoma for
any reason." -- Shayne, Link
Dark Side - The story of The Empire Strikes
Back is retold. Darth Vader (Stewie) is hunting the rebel
Luke Skywalker (Chris) and his troops relentlessly across the galaxy.
Season Seven - "You laughed at that? "Okay,
then laugh at this!" AIDS, cancer, incest, 9-11, and the Matthew
McConaughey are all grist for the mill.
Quotes
"If I had to pick three Senators running for
reelection right now who will be cleaning out their offices at this time next year
it would be Dodd, Lincoln, and Reid. Once voters have decided to disapprove of you, it's
very hard to overcome that."
-- Tom Jensen, Link
One of my best memories relating to the Internet
was back in 2,000 when I was searching for something about PigBoy.
Your website came up and I was enthralled that
I had found someone with intelligence, guts, humor and humility.
For about 48 hours straight, even though I had
friends coming in from Bartlesville and my apartment looked
like a Rush Sty, I was glued to your website...
reading the page and then clicking the "previous issue" button.
And then I was fortunate to meet you at one of
the most memorable gatherings in my life... during the
Bartfest for Julie Hyatt Steele in DC. You are
one of the people I admire most in life... for many reasons.
New Year's Eve is always a sort of "triple witching
day" for me. I look back at the previous year...
I wonder about the coming year... and I will
be 63 when I wake up tomorrow. So today is the day
that I reflect on my life each year. And, as
I reflect, I know that you were a big part of the decade.
Your website has been a blessing for thousands
of "dozens" of viewers, readers, contributors and patriots.
I don't know how you do it... or where you find
the energy, but I truly thank you for being the voice of sanity
for the last 10 years. So... I don't wish you
a Happy New Year, but a Happy New Decade.
Thanks for all you have done for your readers
and for what you have done for your country.
Bob in Oklahoma-Arizona.
Excerpt: I’m afraid that the past 10 years will be seen
as a time when the United States badly lost its way by using our
military power carelessly, misunderstanding the
real challenges to our long-term security, and pursuing domestic
policies that constrained our options for the
future while needlessly threatening our prosperity.
I am aware that the previous paragraph is thoroughly
controversial, and that befits any description of a politically
consequential decade. Much of the contention
surrounding Barack Obama’s presidency is simply a continuation
of our argument over the effects of George W.
Bush’s time in office.
That is why Obama, despite his fervent wishes,
has been unable to usher in a new period of consensus.
Bush’s defenders know that Obama’s election was
a reaction against the consequences of Bush's time in office.
Because Obama is both the anti-Bush and the leader
of the post-Bush cleanup squad, his success would complete
the rebuke. So the Bush camp - Karl Rove’s regular
contributions to The Wall Street Journal’s opinion pages are
emblematic - must stay on the attack.
And it was all caused by the Democrat's refusal to stand up to the cowardly
bully or list the damn facts.
Now that we have a decent president, the Democrats have found their
voice and are fighting him tooth-and-nail.
Every time someone tries to blow up an airplane
we start asking the question,
"How do we spot terrorists? Who is safe to let
through?"
One thing that is common to all these terrorists
is a strong belief in God.
No Atheists are out there blowing up innocent
people. That's because Atheists
don't have an invisible friend promising us sex
with virgins in the next life if we
blow up a bunch of innocent people.
So when you get on a plane you might want to ask
yourself who you would rather flay with,
Atheists or Muslims, because an Atheist is much
more interested in keeping everyone safe in this world.
For the record: I would rather fly with realists than the religiously
insane.
A sexually repressed loser who's been promised
plyable women is a dangerous thing.
....but how was he going to enjoy those virgins
with his balls burned off?
They don't want you to know we're ranked 37th,
but they want to be able to say, "Sure,
we ran that important story."
The whore Times continues to help the
Rethugs harm America.
That's why they've earned that "whore" label.
Meanwhile, the point is the Democrats still refuse
to list the facts.
When Rush and Cheney and the others say, "America's
health care is the best in the world," the Democrats kick the dirt and remain silent
because they have little hamster sacs.
We're #37 when it comes to results but we're #1 - by far - when it comes
to paying for it.
It's set up that way so the super-rich can continue to make more millions
per year and the
Democrats can't figure out a way to sell common sense to the super-stupid
American voter.
Someone said the bomber didn't even have a passport.
In a place like Nigeria, do we have American Delta employees
deciding who boards the plane or local, unnamed "Nigerian staffers?"
And Regis said he was patted down for ten full minutes when he
flew.
Why target the 80-year olds and let the 22 year old extremist on board?
And on CNN, they showed airport employees squarely grabbing some guy's
junk.
If somebody's going to handle my junk I want to get paid - a
lot - for it.
Excerpt: The vulgar Pigboy was hospitalized on Wednesday
for "chest pains" in Hawaii, but the hate radio host
(who also had a hate TV show ) is not dead contrary
to a post made by Wikipedia Thursday morning.
The commentator's page was edited briefly to
say that December 30, 2009 was the day of his death,
but it has since been changed back to say that
he is alive and recovering.
Dear Bart,
I think you should know how the Employment Development
Dept. in California is operating. The short answer is 'barely'.
My husband has not received his unemployment
check in 8 wks. We understand that there has been difficulty
with the state's computer system, and that the
federal gov't. has given our state billions of dollars to fix the problems.
Unfortunately, despite having spent the money,
the problems are not fixed. We can't get any information. We are afraid that something may have happened
with my husband's claim, but we are unable to reach anyone
who is able to find out what the problem is.
The EDD website is a joke. Going to the
Appeals web page takes you to a page in Latin, I kid you not!
The 800 # phone lines have been busy for weeks,
but if you should get through to someone at a local office,
they immediately tell you that they have no ability
to get that information and transfer you to another extension
that rings and rings until abruptly cutting off.
At this point, I'm reduced to e-mailing anyone I can think of in an
official capacity, including you, to beg for
help. I am in the process of contacting President Obama, our governor
and our secretary of state, our state representatives,
our Congressional representatives, Ms. Pelosi, and as many
media outlets as possible.
Our own situation is quite dire, but I
wonder how many thousands of Californians had an even worse holiday.
I think this an unwatched pot that is boiling
now. Thank you for your time.

P.S. To give credit where it is due - Assemblymember
Noreen Evans' office was staffed this morning by a
wonderful guy named Ed Sheffield who was able
to give me the name of the director of EDD - Patrick Henning,
and his address. Interestingly enough,
it is IMPOSSIBLE to find this information on-line.
Hmmm... Also, Ms. Evans' office has a case
worker who will contact us on Mon. 1/04/10.
Please wish us luck!
Gwyn, I wish the Cali voters didn't think it'd be "neato" to have
a Terminator governor.
I'm sorry you're having to live with his ignorant and self-serving
decisions.
Say what you will about that worthless putz David Gregory,
you must admit he's kept Tim Russert's spirit alive.

have cost shareholders of companies endorsed by the world’s

according to a study by the University of California, Davis
“We estimate that shareholders of Tiger Woods’

the researchers wrote, adding that millions of

“Our analysis makes clear that while having a
celebrity of Tiger Woods’ stature as an endorser has
undeniable upside, the downside risk is substantial,
too,” Stango, a professor at the UC Davis.
