It's amazing to me when people talk about how
great their Detroit cars are and immediately
start listing the work they've had done on them.
I had a 1986 Toyota that I sold in 1996.
It had 110,000 miles and the only work I'd ever had done
was the occasional tune-up and state-required
emissions tests. I did my own oil changes.
We usually logged 30mpg city and nearly 40mpg
highway.
We sold our 1993 Honda in 2004 when we bought
a 2001 Toyota.
The Honda had over 150,000 miles on it.
Again, no time in the shop
except for tune-ups and required emissions tests.
28mpg city/38 highway.
Our 2001 Toyota has 100,000 miles on it.
Same deal, no unexpected trips to the garage.
We get 32mpg highway and a whopping 45mpg highway.
If by "outperform", Danny Detroit means "more
efficient", then our Corolla kicks his Monte Carlo's butt.
If he's talking about acceleration or top speed,
he needs to finish high school and grow up: nobody cares.
If Detroit would start designing cars that could
get 45mpg and go 150,000 miles with nothing but oil changes
and tune-ups, I'd buy one in a flash. I
don't blame American workers; I blame incompetent management.

independent and got a lot of Repos to vote for
him, but I think this year there will be too many progressives
running to save all those races. Blanche Lincoln
is getting a primary challenge from Bill Halter, the progressive
lieutenant governor of Arkansas.
MoveOn is trying to move the whole Democratic party to the left and weed out the pink ballerinas. I say, great idea!
