Why not consider that he is delivering on promises made to Wall Street, Big Insurance and the Military Industrial Complex for the thirty pieces of silver he got? Mike C. Between "evil" and "overwhelmed by the job" I'm hoping he's "overwhelmed by the job." Good times.” -- Josh Marshall Link Send e-mail to Bart Disregarding Bill Clinton by backstabber Robert Reich Link Send e-mail to Bart Quotes
"Obama's approval ratings have sunk so low, polls show he'd lose to Mitt Romney. The biggest reason: a sharp drop in approval among Democrats and liberals..." -- Steve Thomma with McClatchy-Marist polls Link So, Obama thinks he can win in 2012 without Democrats and liberals? Who's doing the thinking over there at the White House? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: taxes - gag me Hey Bart the only compelling argument I've heard in defense of (temporarily) extending all of the Bush tax cuts was made by Lawrence O'Donnel about a week ago. (His show is quite good BTW) He said that failure to pass the bill at this stage would result in the bottom tax rate going up from 10 to 15% for America's most economically vulnerable folks. That is a 50% kick right between the ears of the working poor. Obama may truly be between a rock and hard place on this one, even if he may have been able to cut a much better deal had he acted like a "leader" beforehand. Scott What I'm hearing, including from Obama is "This is the best deal we could get." I say that's part of the problem. When Bush wanted something done, he'd say, "We're f-ing doing this and I pity the fool who tries to stop me" and everybody fell in line, including the Democrats Obama goes around asking, "What would you be willing to accept?" the day, The Tourist - good movie Everybody hates The Tourist - I wonder why? It's two hours of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp playing spy games in Venice. I remember seeing District 9 last year, which was 2 hours of the ugliest monsters ever fighting in the biggest dump/slums in the worst/ugliest part of South Africa. A week later, we saw A Perfect Getaway which was about supermodels running around beautiful Maui for two hours. Guess which one I liked better? At USATODAY, Claudia Puig writes, Who knew Johnny Depp
could be wooden and unconvincing in a role? with ghostly pirates with a parrot on his shoulder and a Keef Richards lisp, Claudia. Claudia writes, Dialogue is beyond stilted and unintentional humor arises from banal lines dully delivered. When Frank is invited to join Elise in her magnificent Venetian palazzo suite, he remarks: "This really is a very nice hotel, isn't it?" That's banal writing? I wonder what Claudia says when she sees a Venetian palazzo suite for the first time? I'm guessing there are at least two types of moviegoers. There are those who like prison movies and watching super-ugly monsters fight in slums and there are those who like to watch beautiful people make love in beautiful locales. Quotes "It's the standard bribery model - if you want to put food on the table of the unemployed, you must lavishly wine and dine the CEOs and bankers who laid them off." -- Chris Hayes on Obama's tax cave-in, Link Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Roo on vacation Bart, I'm in New York, sending you food porn. Clinton backed Obama's tax cut deal quite strongly. Is he a fool, a liar, or what, now that he's on-board this with Obama? Bernays It might be what I said last (?) issue, that Clinton enjoys being the guy who a president can call when he can't afford to lose on an issue. Has any former Democratic president ever come out against a sitting Democratic president? Send e-mail to Bart t-shirts for sale!

If the White House thinks that they can shit on folks like myself and what I hold to be core Democratic values, and then count on me to turn around and vote for them in 2012, then they are the ones who "need to have their heads examined." Sorry, but I refuse to enable Democrats like Obama while they plunge knife after knife into my back. Ain't. Gonna. Happen. At this point, I will be writing in my candidate of choice in the 2012 race -- if Obama can't take California without my vote, he's got bigger problems then that vote could solve. Obama's NOT doing what the majority of Democrats want him to do. He's fallen in with a bad crowd who are influencing him negatively. In this land where babies are brought by storks and buildings collapse due to unpatriotic bricks, we need the gadfly because no leader, preacher, guru or saint will wake us up, though the Doomsday clock is ticking close to twelve.” -- David Ray, American poet, author of “The Endless Search” and “The Death of Sardanapalus and Other Poems of the Iraq Wars” Subject: the latest in Grey Matter Link Send e-mail to Bart Guess the City Link Subject: last issue's mystery city Bart, last issue's mystery city is the city hall in Savannah, GA. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: last issue's history mystery Bart, last issue's history mystery is Robert F. Williams and Mabel Williams. Robert F. Williams (February 26, 1925 – October 15, 1996) was a militant civil rights leader whose open advocacy of armed self-defense anticipated the movement for "black power" in the late 1960s and helped inspire groups like the Student National Coordinating Committee, the Revolutionary Action Movement, and the Black Panther Party. In order to avoid an FBI warrant for kidnapping, in 1961, Williams fled the country eventually landing in China. He returned to the US in 1969. He was extradited to North Carolina to face the kidnapping charges which were dropped in 1975. Williams' 1962 book, Negroes with Guns, details his experience with violent racism and the pacifist Civil Rights Movement philosophies he disagreed with. Roger the mellow baritone .
