Subject: What a difference 10 years made in the Debt Ceiling
As America hits the debt ceiling I can't help but to remember where we were 10 years ago.
When President Clinton left office our national debt was 1/3 of what it is now.
We were paying off the national debt and looking forward to a debt free America.
Our biggest debate was what we were going to do with the surplus.
Then the Republicans took over and solved that problem.
They took a prosperous nation and turned America into a third world banana republic.
Now they are trying to pose as if Republicans actually care about the debt ceiling.
We could do something about the national debt but Congress is going to have to give up
political games. We need to get out of Iraq and Angahnastan, tax the rich, get off of
Middle East oil, and we need serious reforms in litigation and liability. But most importantly
we need to decide we are one nation and give up the stupid petty bickering and put reality
first when it comes to deciding what to do.

Subject: last issue's mystery city
Last issue's mystery city is Fort Worth, TX
The tall building in the center (that looks as if it has a stripe running down the side)
used to be the Bank One Tower. There was a great restaurant - the Reata (?) on one of
the top floors. Bank One is no more, & the building was pretty much demolished by a
tornado that tore thru FTW back in 2000. It was rebuilt, and I think it is now retail on
the first floor or two, then residential above that.
The tall building to the left that is behind a shorter building is actually 2 buildings that
look almost exactly alike. They used to be called the Bass Buildings, but I think the
name has changed. Pier 1 used to have its headquarters in one of these buildings.
The tall, dark building behind and slightly to the left of the former Bank One Tower
is Carter Burgess Plaza - used to be the Continental Plaza. The former Burlington
Northern Railroad (now BNSF) had its headquarters there until they moved to their
own campus on the north side of FTW.
This is probably more info that anyone would ever want, but I love Fort Worth.
