Last week federal marshals raided a Gibson Guitar factory in Tennessee. It wasn't the first time.
The government appears to be preparing to charge the famous guitar maker with trafficking in
illegally obtained wood. It's a rare collision of music and environmental regulation.
The raids recalled a similar raid in Nashville in November 2009, when agents seized a shipment
of ebony from Madagascar. They were enforcing the Lacey Act, a century-old endangered species law
that was amended in 2008 to include plants as well as animals. But Juszkiewicz says the government
won't tell him exactly how — or if — his company has violated that law.
This immediately became a rallying cry for the TeaPublicans to cry about excessive government
interference and job-killing federal regulations. Gibson has been raided by the feds before this last one,
but no charges have been filed. Yet.
First, I'm so happy for John Boner.
He actually found a case where the government actually "regulated" something concrete.
Gibson is apparently guilty - they used a fake name on the manifest.
They must have known they were breaking the law.
Why didn't Gibson do what all rich corporations do - bribe congress to change the law?
The part I don't get is - why is Madagascar ebony so endangered?
Why doesn't Gibson buy some land there and plant a shitload of ebony trees?
Lastly, the law was amended in 2008.
Since Bush had no vetos over-ridden, HE signed this law.

So once again, Obama is to blame for Bush's actions.

of a major funding crisis. No one wants to pay a dime of extra taxes to insure a healthy
fire department and ambulance service but you should hear the screaming when they
don’t have someone respond in 5 minutes to their call.
Firefighters and paramedics are basically invisible until you need them
and then they better by god be there in a heartbeat.
I watched the show about the “miracle” firehouse on 9/11 and was choked up for half of it.
These guys bust ass every day and they sure as hell don’t do it to get rich.

As you know, Lord, tonight is the premier of Survivor on CBS from 7PM CST to 8:30,
which is then immediately followed by the season finale of CBS's Big Brother.
As you know, Lord, those are two of Mrs. Bart's favorite TV shows which means
she will not be driving anywhere between 7-10 PM so if you were planing to send
my heart attack tonight, could you do that after 10 PM?

Bush said the events that led to the death of Osama bin Laden in May began during his administration.
“The work that was done by intelligence communities during my presidency was part of
putting together the puzzle that enabled us to see the full picture of how bin Laden was
communicating and eventually where he was hiding,” he lied. “It began the day after 9/11.”
The reality, of course, is that Bush’s attempts to capture or kill bin Laden were huge failures.
Bush stated publicly that he wasn’t spending much time thinking about getting him.
“I truly am not that concerned about him. I am deeply concerned about Iraq,” Bush said in 2002,
“I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.” Bush told reporters
in 2006 that hunting OBL was “not a top priority use of American resources.”
History will record that war hero Bush got bin Laden.
