"The charges this troubled woman has made exceed common sense." -- Herman Cain, in his live press conference yesterday. Any idea what he means by that? What did she say that is illogical? Also, he said, "I didn't not recognize her at first," which means he eventually recognized her, but he denies that, too. Conclusion: Cain is not a very good liar. BTW, is it possible that the credit card slip still exists that would prove that Cain paid to upgrade the room of this lady he claims he never met? Send e-mail to Bart Dems win big at the polls
Unions have a great night, too Link In a hard-won victory for Democrats and their labor-union allies, Ohioans decisively rejected the state's collective-bargaining law on Tuesday night, repealing Rethug John Kasich's signature legislation in a referendum that could reverberate into 2012. Kasich acknowledged the defeat with humility, pledging to take the will of the voters into account. "It's clear that the people have spoken. My view is when people speak in a campaign like this, in a referendum, you have to listen," he said. In the evening's other hotly anticipated ballot proposition, Mississippians shot down an anti-abortion constitutional amendment known as the "Personhood amendment," which would have imposed the stiffest restrictions on abortion of any state. The amendment sought to define life as beginning at the point of fertilization, banned all abortions — including those to pregnancies caused by rape or incest — as well the morning-after pill. It would have been the first successful effort to pass a personhood amendment in the U.S. So, we have more proof that Obama looks good for re-election. If only we could get him to act like a Democrat. Send e-mail to Bart The New York Times bestselling author of Armed Madhouse offers a globetrotting, Sam Spade-style investigation that blows the lid off the oil industry, the banking industry, and the governmental agencies that aren't regulating either. $16.73 This is the story of the corporate vultures that feed on the weak and ruin our planet in the process-a story that spans the globe and decades. For Vultures' Picnic, investigative journalist Greg Palast has spent his career uncovering the connection between the world of energy (read: oil) and finance. He's built a team that reads like a casting call for a Hollywood thriller-a Swiss multilingual investigator, a punk journalist, and a gonzo cameraman- to reveal how environmental disasters like the Gulf oil spill, the Exxon Valdez, and lesser-known tragedies such as Tatitlek and Torrey Canyon are caused by corporate corruption, failed legislation, and, most interestingly, veiled connections between the financial industry and energy titans. Palast shows how the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, World Trade Organization, and Central Banks act as puppets for Big Oil. With Palast at the center of an investigation that takes us from the Arctic to Africa to the Amazon, Vultures' Picnic shows how the big powers in the money and oil game slip the bonds of regulation over and over again, and simply destroy the rules that they themselves can't write-and take advantage of nations and everyday people in the process. Quotes "The kids that were the victims ... I think we all ought to say a prayer for them..." -- Joe Paterno, explaining why he has to go Link Joe, you still don't get it? When a rape-in-progress is discovered, you're supposed to call the police. But if you did that, your friend Jerry would have to explain himself and we can't have that, right, Joe? Offering a prayer to a rape victim is sooo GOP. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: "Personhood" Bart, Dead on! The definition of personhood is so vague it can't be applied...plus, it doesn't even apply to corporations! Does this mean the governments of Alabama and Mississippi are going to violate the Supreme Court ruling the corporations are persons? Even more, one reason sexually active women don't get pregnant every month is that the fertilized egg fails to implant in the uterus. If they want to enforce this view of "personhood" they will need to study all liquid emissions from women...all. Russ Send e-mail to Bart The Left Warns Obama
"Tar Sands could be a deal-breaker" Link Egged on by a supportive video from Robert Redford, the Religious Left (What?) rallied with environmentalists on Sunday afternoon outside the White House to oppose the Keystone XLL pipeline from Canada. This pipeline would carry dirty oil from Canada to Texas oil refineries. More oil for America?! Texas oil refineries!? More jobs in the oil sector?! Naturally the Religious Left, (What?) which hates oil spills and dead animals hates crooked, greedy Texas oil men even more, is enraged. The opponents of the tar sands pipeline would probably prefer that oil not be drilled anywhere. But the short term consequence of their goals would be even more oil drilled far more messily in places like Nigeria and Angola, and then expensively dragged through hundreds of miles of ocean by belching oil tankers. Who will speak for the aggrieved, violated sea life, not to mention the millions in third world nations who live amid oil production and far less environmental regulation? The problem isn't oil, per se. The problem is crooked greedy oil men who refuse to follow the rules. If BP hadn't been such greedy bastards, they would've paid the $500K for the Blowout Preventer but they decided a problem was "unlikely" and they gambled with the clean water in the Gulf. Remember the Exxon Valdez? The skipper was drunk as hell when he ran that tanker into the ground. Religiously insane oil men think Christ is coming for them soon so why bother to keep the planet clean when they're about to go to Heaven? (1) sex scandal (2) financial scandal I guess if there were a third scandal, Bush would call it a trifecta. LOL. Eckhard Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Say no to the rich
I read today that Bachman was putting forth her "everyone-pays" tax plan. What is her plan? Raise taxes on the poor. The Republicans seem to feel that the lower 99% need to pay more taxes. That we should be the ones to shoulder the burden of society. All of them have similar plans that have exactly the same effect. Big tax breaks for the rich, huge tax increases for the rest of us. Are we smart enough to do the math? America is not going to become a Plutocracy. Plutocracy is a word coined by Citigroup to describe what America has become. It refers to a society that is controlled by a few wealthy people. And it's not like they earned it. They are stealing it from us. Their hands are in our pockets. When we buy a house we pay more because of their investment properties. When we buy gas and food we pay far more because the option traders are getting their third. We taxpayers loan them money at 0 percent so they can gamble and if they lose we just hand them trillions of dollars just to borrow it back from them as part of the national debt. It's a power grab. And we are not going to let that happen. Plutocracies do not work. That system isn't self sustaining and when it collapses it takes the rich down too. America can not allow itself to evolve into something that is self destructive. So we're just not going to put up with it anymore. We need to get back on the right track and I think everyone can agree - this ain't it. Our only reasonable course of action is to form a new vision of America where we do what Americans have always done in hard times. We need to come together so that all of us come out OK. Mark Perkel Send e-mail to Bart The rest of the world is leaving America behind because crooked Republicans are taking bribes to embrace yesterday's dirty energy. Reagan statue
looks like Saddam's
Reagan not nearly as loved as FOX says... Link Police were scratching their heads over why someone tried to topple a Reagan bronze in a Newport Beach park. According to authorities, someone lassoed the statue and hitched it to a pickup early Sunday. The theft was foiled when the rope or chain slipped off as the pickup pulled away. A witness alerted the police. The statue, valued at about $50, was left leaning from its foundation. It was later removed from its base. Police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said they are looking for a man in a tan pickup. That statue is less crooked than Reagan was. Remember, they had to bury his papers to hide Reagan's crimes but our brainless Demcrats are too stupid to pick up on the obvious. Next time the GOP says, "We want to name this after Reagan," the Dems should say, "Sure, as soon as you make his papers public so we can see who we're honoring." That would nip all that statue talk in the bud, but our cowardly, braindead Democrats can't figure that out. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Citizen Cain Bart, Citizen Cain's denial of sexual harassment of women could be based on his assessment of what is harassment. His standards of behavior must be different than what sociality believes appropriate. He has a sliding scale of standards depending on what he wants to do. David T. David, good point. If Cain figures every woman owes him oral sex, then he's only guilty of asking for that which he's universally owed. Send e-mail to Bart Check out the news and toons at
Misc... The World Series of Poker crowned a new champ last night - Heinz somebody. I was up till 2: 30 watching the end of that. Second-placer Stazsko foolishly went "All in" with a 10-8 of Clubs - he lost. I didn't even know it was on - I need a personal assistant. Heinz won $8M, Stazsko won $5M. They say Joe Paterno is stepping down - after the season's over. I guess winning football games is more important than teaching kids the importance of dailing 9-1-1 whenever you see a child being raped? Odds are you've never heard Harry Houdini speak. Some opportunists are trying to sell Michael Jackson's death bed. My lawyer, Perry Sanders, is going to stop them. A couple of tweets I read: Bob Kinkaid: Cain says he won't have an "A-Ha moment." Thank god! I was worried he'd break into "Take On Me" any second. Cory, the best dressed man in comics: I haven't seen the news for about 2 hours, has Herman Cain done anything embarrassingly stupid in that time? WMDs replay on Iran?
by Robert Perry Link The American public is about to be inundated with another flood of “expert analysis” about a dangerous Middle Eastern country presumably hiding a secret nuclear weapons program that may require a military strike, although this time it is Iran, not Iraq. In the near future, you will be seeing more satellite photos of non-descript buildings that experts will say are housing elements of a nuclear bomb factory. There will be more diagrams of supposed nuclear devices. Some of the same talking heads will reappear to interpret this new “evidence.” You might even recognize some of those familiar faces from the more innocent days of 2002-2003 when they explained, with unnerving confidence, how Iraq’s Saddam Hussein surely had chemical and biological weapons and likely a nuclear weapons program, too. For instance, back then, former United Nations weapons inspector David Albright was all over the news channels, reinforcing the alarmist claims about Iraq’s WMD that were coming from Bush and his neocon-dominated administration. I don't get it. It seems Robert Perry is attacking the Obama administration on so many different levels. It would appear, in Perry's eyes, that Obama is getting everything wrong, instead of just some things Iraq had no WMDs, but Iran certainly does - and they're close to getting nukes. Is Bob saying 'Iran with nukes is not a problem?' And what part of "Bush is gone" doesn't Perry get? You can make parallels about Bush & Obama but Obama is not Bush. Is Perry attacking Obama in an attempt to make amends for his extra-exuberant support for him in 2008? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Joe Paterno Bart, you wrote: > Bottom line - a guy witnessed Sandusky raping some child in the shower. > He told Paterno, Paterno told the Athletic Director and then Joe forgot about it. So why didn’t the “A Guy” do more he did exactly what Joe did told someone and forgot it. Also What did the AD do - just ignore it? Why put all the blame on Joe PA? Not necessarily a fan of Joes just trying to be fair. Carl in Mannford For me, the enormity of the crime was so fucking outrageous and atrocious, Joe had no business treating this like some mundane chore that was over when it was reported. He knew Sandusky was raping kids and he didn't follow up. Paterno: Hey Jerry, want to grab some supper? Sandusky: NO, I'm going to rape a nine-year old. I can't imagine being so close to some dude that I would overlook the fact that he was raping little boys so he and I could remain friends and co-workers. Shame on Joe Paterno - he should NOT lead Penn State on to the field Saturday. Send e-mail to Bart Today's Mystery Car

Bart, that would be Bobby Riggs, a Wimbledon tennis champion a long time ago (1939) and #1 player in the world from 1946-1949. In the 1970’s he shot his mouth off about how even an old man like him (aged 55) could beat the best women’s tennis player. He did play and beat Margaret Court but later played against Billie Jean King in the Astrodome on national TV. Billie Jean handed him his ass with a big victory for “women’s lib”. Dennis in DC Dennis, thanks for that. Many people got the right answer, but your reply was closest to what I was looking for. Many people mentioned "Battle of the Sexes," but that phrase goes right over some peoples' heads. Bobby was shooting his mouth off, saying he could beat "any woman" at tennis, and many if not most people believed him but Billie Jean King wasn't having any of it. She decided to teach him a lesson and PROVE that women can often beat a man at something so she went out and kicked his ass soundly. Had she lost, they might still be saying women are inferior. For me it was a "Rosa Parks" situation and Billie Jean King should be remembered for it. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: donation Bart, I've been a straggler for years.
