The whole world sees that prohibition just took a body blow." -- Hempfest director Vivian McPeak, in Seattle Link Send e-mail to Bart Doesn't Assad know Hillary never bluffs? Link U.S. officials say the Syrian military has loaded active chemical weapons into bombs and is awaiting a final order from President Assad to use the deadly weapons against its own people. NBC News reports that on Wednesday the Syrian military loaded sarin gas into aerial bombs that could be deployed from dozens of aircraft. The last large-scale use of sarin was in 1988, when Saddam gassed 5,000 Kurds in a single attack. However, U.S. officials told NBC that the sarin bombs had not yet been loaded onto planes but added if Assad gives the final order, "there's little the outside world can do to stop it." That makes no sense to me. We could impose a "No fly" zone all over Syria if Obama gives the order. Assad can still gas his people, but he'll be doing it from jeeps. Why wants to drive a jeep that's dispensing poison gas? Why can't we park a carrier off Syria and destroy anything that flies? Send e-mail to Bart Pot Smokers in Legal Limbo When will Obama make a Decision? Link Starting today in Washington state, pot smokers can posssess of up to an ounce of marijuana, but growing and selling it remains a crime. Initiative 502, passed last month by Washington voters, legalized recreational marijuana use starting December 6, but it will take a year before there are rules for growing and selling it. "It begs the question, if they can't buy it through a medical marijuana shop, which only people with a prescription and medical marijuana license can, how do they get it?" Washington State Liquor Control Board spokesman Brian Smith said Wednesday. Growing and selling marijuana will still be prosecuted as a felony. "So I'm not sure where you're suppose to get it," Satterberg said. "If you stumble across some on the street or it falls from the sky, then you can have it. Otherwise, you are part of a criminal chain of distribution." Until the state takes over managing marijuana sales, the black market will thrive as it meets consumer demands, Satterberg said. It would be very easy for Obama to just come out and say, "I, personally, am not in favor of the legalization of marijuana but the voters want it to be legal and I won't stand in their way." What are the Republicans going to do? Accuse Obama of upholding states rights? Send e-mail to Bart ha ha Is that the cigar-smoking Pigboy they're worshipping? Poll: Raise Taxes on
the Rich
How long can Bitch and Boner hold out? Link Americans prefer letting tax cuts expire for the country's top earners, as Obama insists, while support has declined for cutting government services to curb budget deficits, an poll shows. Fewer than half the Republicans polled favor continuing the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy. There's also a reluctance to trim Social Security, Medicare or defense programs, three of the biggest drivers of federal spending, the survey released Wednesday found. The results could strengthen Obama's hand in his fiscal cliff duel with Republicans, in which he wants to raise taxes on the rich and cut spending by less than the GOP wants. I saw another poll that says IF we go off the fiscal cliff, it will be the Republican's fault. In the past, when Obama had the winning hand with the math and the people on his side, he always caved in to whatever the snarling-dog Republicans demanded. Will we see the same-old President Mouse? Or will Obama stand up and act like a man? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: fund-raising idea Bart, there are prob a lot of artists that visit your site…. Rice could sink Republicans Old white men hate smart Black women by Joe Conason Link With the Republican right persisting in baselesss persecution of Susan Rice, they have left Obama little choice but to move ahead with her nomination. If he backs away from Rice, in the face of what he has called false accusations against her, that display of weakness would undermine his second term before it begins. The opposition to Rice is cobbled together from the remnants of a failed “October Surprise” election gambit, which began when Mitt Romney sought to smear the president by using the Benghazi attack. In the election’s aftermath, Senate Republicans have fixated on Rice, whom they accuse of misleading the public in television appearances several days after the Sept. 11 incident. Rice’s supposed offense was to downplay the likelihood that the attack had been perpetrated by terrorists, while underlining the idea that it had been inspired by an anti-Muslim video on the Internet. On ABC News’ This Week, she repeated almost precisely the talking points provided to her by the CIA: I'm old and I've seen the Republicans do a lot of dumb things but this might be the dumbest. Rice's "crime" was not knowing what was in the minds of some midnight marauders half a world away. After all these years, we still don't know who killed JFK. After all these years, we still don't know who killed RFK. After all these years, we still don't know who killed MLK. After all these years, we still don't know what happened on 9-11, all of which happened in America in broad daylight but Ambassador Rice was supposed to have all the Benghazi details just days after it happened? Send e-mail to Bart if you have any news Joints fired up at Space Needle Seattle smokers celebrate at 12:01 this morning Link Residents fired up joints in a ‘smoke-out’ at Seattle’s iconic Space Needle as recreational marijuana use became legal in Washington state at 12:01 a.m. Thursday. Expecting celebratory pot smoking on the streets, the Seattle Police Department told its officers to only issue verbal warnings to those seen violating the new law’s provisions, one of which is not to smoke pot in public. “Until further notice, officers shall not take any enforcement action — other than to issue a verbal warning — for a violation of I-502,” the marijuana legalization initiative, said the SPD email sent out to officers. Voters in the Nov. 6 elections in Washington state and Colorado became the first in the nation to approve recreational use of marijuana. Washington’s law took effect 30 days after Election Day. Seattle’s pot users celebrated early Thursday — and some of those who could not wait for the midnight hour lit up Wednesday night — in a smoke-out at the Space Needle. The event was organized by the local chapter of NORML, the organization that works to reform marijuana laws. The 2012 election might have been the most important election of my lifetime. Not because of pot, but because we're seeing the electorate changing. The old, Republican traditions are dying and the new generation is taking over. I have lived to see the day.
