Assad WILL be Assassinated
  by Noam Chimsky

  Link

We don't know what's going to happen. Syria is moving towards kind of suicide and there
doesn't seem to be any easy way out. This morning got even worse, as you may have seen
there was a battle yesterday between the Kurdish and rebel forces. That adds a new complexity
to the situation which of course very much affects Turkey. But inside Syria it just looks like a
growing horror story with no real feasible solution insight. It is going to be extremely difficult
to find a way out of this without just destruction of the country.

Assad himself is facing assassination no matter what happens, I mean if he agrees to leave - he
would probably be killed by his Alawite associates because he is abandoning them. If he doesn't
leave the country sooner or later it would be wiped out.

And another problem that is arising is the chemical weapons problem. Syria has already crossed
what Obama called his red line. On chemical weapons the US has backed off and moved the
red line a little backwards but sooner or later that's going to be a huge problem. And nobody
hasn't answered to it. You can't bomb them!

Gun Reform Probably D.O.A.
  by Aarin Blake

 Link

Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced a new version of the assault weapons ban on Thursday.
And it’s already looking like a lost cause.

Most everyone agrees that the ban is the most ambitious and politically difficult item on
Obama’s and Biden’s gun control agenda. And there is increasing evidence that it will be
cast aside in favor or more doable proposals. Below, we look at four reasons why.

1. Joe Biden is downplaying it.
2. Some Democrats are against it.
3. Every day since Newtown, the urgency weakens.
4. Obama can claim victory even with watered-down reform.

But isn't the real reason that Americans just like lots of guns?
Isn't the sad truth that Americans, as a whole, are OK with the occasional school shooting?

They stupiodly claim they need those guns to stop a theoretical out-of-control president,
but that president woukdn't send the army door-to-door to confiscate weapons.

No, that president would use drone strikes to kill anti-government leaders as they slept,
so when will the NRA start claiming everyone needs their own killer drone air force?

The GOP is Hopelessly Lost
and nobody's positioned to rescue them
  by Eugene Robinson

  Link

In post-debacle speeches and interviews, Republicans sound paranoid and delusional.
Boehner said that Obama is trying to “annihilate the Republican Party.”
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Insane) claims Obama seeks “political conquest” of the GOP.

In five of the past six presidential elections, Democrats have won the popular vote.
To have a chance at effecting transformative change, you have to win the White House.

And to win the White House, you have to convince voters that your policies are the right ones.
This is what the GOP doesn’t seem to understand.

“We’ve got to stop being the stupid party,” says Bhaabi Jindal, one of the GOP’s brightest
young stars. “We’ve got to stop insulting the intelligence of voters. We need to trust the
smarts of the American people.”

Bhaabi, maybe the voters in India (or wherever you came from) are smart, but in
America, the super-stupid voters generally go for the taller candidate or the candidate
who they think might be fun to get drunk with. If you "trust the smarts" of the American
voter, you won't win another election in my lifetime.

Ask a Republican about their future and they say, "We have an embarrassment if riches when
it come to future candiadtes," but that's just another lie.  Truth is, it's just f-ing embarrassing.
The only "rising stars" in the GOP are Teabagging handjobs with no possible future.

The Democrats are going to win the White House in 2016 and probably again in 2020.

The GOP won't win again until after the vulgar Pigboy dies/retires because he's calling the shots
and the GOP doesn't have the brains to see he's just using them to keep that $20M a month
rolling in - money Pigboy could never spend before he eventually dies and goes to Hell.

Just kidding - there is no Hell.

Subject: What a contrast!

Three thousand people died on 9/11 and Bush and Cheney were questioned in a closed session.
Four people died in Benghazi and Hillary Clinton was questioned in public.
Does anybody besides me think this is wrong?
 Eckhard

That happens for two reasons:
Democrats have nothing to hide, 'cept maybe the occasional girlfriend
Democrats refuse to hold GOP accountable for their very real global crimes.

GOP: "We Wetbacks, Vote for Us"
  by Cynthia Tucker at NationalMemo.com

   Link

Caught in their own version of Groundhog Day, Republican strategists have reliably trotted out one
of their most fearsome epithets from the 1980s and ’90s to bludgeon Obama: liberal. In response
to the president’s inaugural address, Karl Rove made “liberal” the refrain of a new anti-Obama ad.

In fairness, Rove isn’t the only person caught in the rhetorical equivalent of a mullet haircut.
Blowhards described the president’s inaugural address as the most liberal speech of his presidency.

But Rove managed to the point: The American public largely agrees with Obama.
If he is “liberal,” so is the country.

America is getting more liberal because the old, conservative farts are dying.
The under-30s don't care what color your skin is or if you're gay and they're OK with legal pot.

The Republicans will fight for their harsh, unpopular ideas until the last hateful bigot dies.

Subject: art for auction, sale

Hi old buddy,
Belated congrats on arriving at 3000 postings. Wow.

I have been sorting through the piles of art that I have.
I am attaching 3 pieces for your art sale/auction fundraiser.
I would normally sell these for $95.
If you want to auction, start at $20. If someone wants to directly pony up $50,
let them have it. Once you have the bucks I will send the piece to them.

I will also allow the stuff on my ETSY shop as work you can sell.
Same pricing rules. I will ship the piece when you have the money.

Theo, thanks for that.
Nobody's buying' nuffum these days but maybe your art will tickle someone's fancy.

I like your art.

Newtown victim Heckled by Gun Nuts
  by Taylor Berman

 Link

SFrom their "What Would Django Do?" campaign to their ill-fated (and shooting-filled)
Gun Masturbation Day to idiotic NRA commercials, pro-gun activists have been on a roll.
But it's been a few days since their last PR disaster – surely they've done something stupid
recently, right? Correct. During a legislative hearing Monday at the Connecticut Capitol,
protesters heckled the father of a six-year-old killed at Sandy Hook elementary.

When Neil Heslin, who was holding a picture of his deceased son during his testimony,
asked the state senate why Bushmaster-type assault rifles should be legal, several gun nuys
in the audience reportedly shouted him down, yelling "The Second Amendment!"

So just to repeat: the father of a six-year-old boy who died six weeks ago asked a question about
the weapon that killed his son, and the the gun activists attending the testimony decided to heckle him.

It's Strange Mystery Car Week

The cars this week are all American cars from my lifetime that I'd never heard of
which surprises me because when before I could drive I knew every car.

So, you'll have to do better than "Chevy" or "Ford."
You have to know that extra name that makes the car unique.

Going to Alaska

Mrs Bart has always wanted to go to Alaska and Hawaii.
Thanks to Scott H (Don HO) we got to Hawaii in 2005 and we thought we'd
better go to Alaska before I have to drag an oxygen tank behind my wheelchair.

We bought tickets last year but we kept running into reasons why we couldn't go so
we're trying once again to go - and we're Alaska newbies. Astrocat says March is the

best month for aurora viewing and the weather isn't always freezing - hopefully.

Once we land, I need a short conversation with someone who agrees with me
on the stupidity of Obama raiding legal businesses in California and Montana.

Any Bartcop readers in or near Anchorage?

And some thing new we're trying:
Would you like to sponsor a portion of the trip?
Maybe a tank of gas or a few dollars towards a hotel or a ferry ride or something?
That would get your name in the sure-to-be-fun Alaska Trip Report.

"And the fourth night we stayed at Chena Hot Springs in Fairbanks
thanks to Greg and Fran and Ducks," type of thing.
