So the demise of the Republicans as a national organization is probably exaggerated. ha ha At minimum, its strength across the old Confederacy and what Mencken called the “Cow States” should enable the GOP to keep Congress semi-paralyzed and the shrinking Fox News audience in a state of incipient hysteria even as it fights internal battles of surpassing nastiness. In that sense, the fight over Hagel’s nomination and McCain’s erratic quest to turn Benghazi into a huge scandal are symptomatic: all word-games, question-begging and make-believe indignation aimed not at governance, but TV appearances. For all the theatrics, Republican senators (didn't filibuster Hagel's nomination) indefinitely. I expect most are privately appalled at seeing Ted Cruz, (R-Cunty) the freshman senator from Texas, question Hagel’s loyalty—something I doubt he’d say anywhere except in front of a TV camera. If you can, always read Gene's columns in their entirety. He's that good. Send e-mail to Bart Shop

Rape runs Wild on UNC Campus Victim may be expeled for speaking out Link A University of North Carolina student who says she was raped has been charged with violating the school's honor code and creating a hostile environment for her alleged attacker by speaking out. Landen Gambill—a sophomore who last spring reported being raped by a student she says is still on the school's Chapel Hill campus—was notified of the charge last week in an email from the school's graduate attorney general. The email, published by Jezebel.com, reads in part: You are being charged with the following Honor Code violation(s): Disruptive or intimidating behavior that willfully abuses, disparages, or otherwise interferes with another so as to adversely affect their academic pursuits, opportunities for employment, etc. The matter has been turned over to UNC's student-run Honor Court. If found guilty, Gambill could be subject to a range of sanctions, including suspension or expulsion. If you can rape a woman and then get her in trouble for speaking up, rape is legal. Send e-mail to Bart Ellison unleashes on Hannity Calls him "worst excuse for journalist ever" Link with video HANNITY: I guess that's what we can describe as staying on message, something the Democratic Party I would argue is very good at. ELLISON: You're pretty good at it too. HANNITY: Thank you. ELLISON: Quite frankly you are the worst excuse for a journalist I've ever seen. HANNITY: I can't hear you. ha ha Of course he can't hear him. If he heard him, he'd have to respond and Rethugs can't engage live. Send e-mail to Bart Why Christie wasn't Invited to CPAC Link New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was not invited to speak at CPAC this year because he broke with conservatives on key issues over the past year, they say. Said organizer Al Cardenas: (Who?) "CPAC is like the all-star game for professional athletes; you get invited when you have had an outstanding year. (You mean like Romney and Palin had?) ha ha Hopefully he will have another all-star year in the future, at which time we will be happy to extend an invitation. This is a conservative conference, not a Republican Party event." Nate Silver points out that conservatives "had been underrating how moderate Christie was -- perhaps because they were so desperate at that time to find alternatives to Romney and their other six dwarfs. Now that he's been 'outed' as a moderate, it may be hard to close the closet door." Al Sharpton says Chris Christie is THE most popular Republican in America. I thought about it and I agree - what Republican is more popular as Christie? Nobody, that's who, which is why the GOP won't have anything to do with him. ha ha It's like Pigboy and FOX News are counter-spies working for us - for free. They won't allow the GOP to get into a position where they might win. Send e-mail to Bart Ted Nugget is also working for us - for free. Everytime he opens his foul, racist mouth, 10,000 Republicans say, "That's it - I can't take any more of this hate," and vote Democrat. Subject: You're giving them about the right amount of hell Bart, I'm pretty sure that I would want you to give them more hell if I were raised in the church, but I wasn't. Happily my parents decided early on that organized religion was bogus and I was raised to be a cynical orthodox agnostic (I *really* don't know if I believe in a divine being or not) that is highly suspicious of *anyone* claiming to *know* the Truth, especially if they want something from me. Keep that hammer swinging. Eric from Boston Eric, that's why they grab kids before their brains have a chance to develope. They know once you understand, you'll reject their nutty story and their ridiculous demands. Subject: Too hard on the Catholics?? Hey Bart - Don't ease up on them - the Catholic church needs to be called out for the wealthy, international pedophile ring that they are. You've got the absolute best cartoons that address this and many other issues so well. Thank you for what you do - I'll keep shopping at the Amazon portal. Sue Subject: Maybe the Brew was wrong? Bart, what does “Catholics: Are you kidding me?” mean or imply? Does it mean that anti-Catholic bigots can then engage in hostile criticism and antagonistic rhetoric about all Catholics and those who have fallen away from the Church’s policies? Your friend Brew is the bigot that typifies such a narrow-minded, hateful individual. He uses the “straw man” argument by taking the 4-6% figures of roughly 50K Catholic priests in the United States (I assumed that was understood to apply to the U.S.) that have been accused of sexual abuse; and extrapolate it into 20,000 sexual perverted Catholic priests preying on our children by using the 400,000 priests world wide figure. Hey, are not there a lot of variables here for which we have no reported abuse cases in the rest of the world? The studies on the priest abuses have indicated that the rate of incidences in the U.S. is not greater than other clergy or the general male population. Stick with the facts, Jack! And, don’t use your prejudices to speculate erroneously on the some other inflated figures. Bart, I know you will not print my response to the Bigot...........Will ya? Link Bruce Dude, I'll give you points for courage. I would guess 80 percent of the planet disagrees with your position. I think Brew's main point (although he can speak for himself) is the multiplier problem. If you're Bob the Perv Plumber, you can probably only rape a handful of kids per year, If you're Father Robert, trusted soldier of God, you can be raping three kids a day. Bob the Plumber doesn't have a worldwide network that will shield him from prosecution. Bob the Plumber can't transfer to Seattle in June and then Miami in September. Bob the Plumber doesn't enjoy sympathetic prosecutors in every city in America. Know Your Classics Link This one put the "C" in "classic." Subject: last issue's Classic Link Bart, the classic line is from The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. It’s a good opening line, since later in the autobiographical novel, Sylvia details her experiences with electroconvulsive therapy. Sue in Michigan Send Classic Lines to Bart I saw this on netrightdaily.com I feel bad for right-wing cartoonists for several reasons. One, they have no sense of humor beyond "nigger" jokes and the toons they write never make any sense (see Mallard the Duck). That's why they don't have a Daily Show. What does this toon say? That Obama had no right to mention that he got bin Laden after Bush smirked and said, "I don't care where he is?" Good luck scoring with that, guys. And the economy was good enough to beat Thurston so what the hell is the point of this toon? Maybe there should be a third rotting corpse - the GOP. Sometimes "stupid" fails to describe it... Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Really? The Republicans are deliberately crashing the economy? It never ceases to amaze me the hubris of the Republican party. As if it wasn't enough that they turned Clinton's surplus into the biggest deficit in history, now they are deliberately crashing the economy with their sequestration. They seem to think it's not treason to hold the economy hostage trying to destroy Medicare and Social Security as ransom. But I blame the voters who elected them. If you vote for dogs you're going to get fleas. It's just too bad that the rest of us in the reality based world have to suffer the karma of their irresponsibility. Marc Perkel Know your Supermodels Link Subject: Last issue's supermodel Link Bart, that supermodel is Inee Sastre. I would like to check her points, fix her overdrive, Robert P Send e-mail to Bart Brit Cardinal O'Brien Steps back Another One Bites the Dust "Is it a crime to enjoy boy?" Link Britain's top cardinal, Keith O'Brien, has decided not to participate in the papal election following reports that he made unwanted sexual advances toward four priests in the 1980s. "I do not wish media attention in Rome to be focused on me, but rather on Pope Benny the Rat and on his successor," O'Brien, who will retain the title of cardinal, said in a statement today. The Scottish cardinal, 74, is the latest voting Cardinal to be tainted by scandal but the first to recuse himself from the conclave. O'Brien has been accused of committing "inappropriate acts" in his relations with three priests and one former priest from the diocese of St. Andrews and Edinburgh. O'Brien has been an outspoken opponent of gay rights. Of course he is - they ALL are. "Gay rights" is bad but raping young boys is fine.
