When asked what makes the world work, any self-respecting right-wing Republican knows the
politically correct answer: competition! (With at least one exclamation point.) It is the paramount
principle and universal solvent perennially touted by the right to cure whatever ails us – in the abstract.
What they don’t seem to like so much, in reality, is the competitive impact of the Affordable Care Act,
which is forcing health insurance companies into a contested marketplace – and seems to be driving down
rates, state by state. The latest data arrived this week from New York, where insurance regulators
announced that the new rates approved for 2014 will be 50 percent lower, on average, than current rates.
That stunning report follows similar news from California, where rates may drop by as much as 29 percent,
as well as Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and several other states where indications show rates declining.

A group of satanists have turned Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelp’s mother into a lesbian.
Yes, this is a pretty bizarre story. According to ABC, the New York based Satanic Temple decided to hold
a “pink mass” ceremony at the grave site of Catherine Johnston, the mother of Fred Phelps. The satanist group
apparently believes that a “Pink Mass” ceremony can change the sexual orientation of the dead.
A “Pink Mass” may sound a little outrageous but it isn’t uncommon for religious groups to hold ceremonies
for the dead. Mormons, for example, hold a ceremony to baptize people after they have died.
Of course, it’s not clear how serious the satanist actually take the ritual. Spokesman Lucien Greaves
said that the Pink Mass ceremony was designed specifically to get a rise out of the Westboro bastards.

John Boehner said, "We should not be judged on how many new laws we create.
We ought to be judged on how many laws we repeal."

The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, desperate to get into the national spotlight, made some whorish statements
on "Piers Morgan" on Thursday, lambasting Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for inserting race into the
racial-killing of Trayvon Martin, calling the 17-year-old shooting victim a "thug."
"You have the race-hustlers and poverty pimps like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who turned it
into a race issue in order to gain power and wealth," he charged.
Peterson also targeted Obama, calling his comment ("If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon") "insane."
These statements, he said, were intended to "incite the anger of black Americans and others."

When it comes to republicanc, Black people have stayed away in droves since the 1960s
Alienated by the GOP's Southern strategy of race-baiting and pandering to the prejudices of
right-wing Neanderthals. If you wonder why black voters believe the Republican Party trades
in the rankest bigotry, look no further than the reaction to the George Zimmerman verdict
among conservative commentators. It's been appalling.
Let me be clear: It's perfectly reasonable to believe the Zimmerman jury arrived at the only
acceptable verdict. Many analysts, including some black commentators, have stated that the
prosecution simply did not prove its case.
But several conservative pundits have gone well beyond reason, smearing Trayvon Martin.
They've shown a callous disregard for the grief that still envelops Martin's parents.
And those commentators, such as Rush Limbaugh, are widely regarded as leaders of the GOP.
How could it be otherwise when Republican pols kowtow before them, engage them as campaign
surrogates and dare not criticize them?
The math is simple:
Bigots can no longer win.
The GOP isn't going to change.
Ergo ipso facto, the GOP can't win.

SEVEN times, Fox News anchor Jamie Colby tried to get George Zimmerman's brother to criticize
the president and his speech about Trayvon Martin. And seven times, he declined to do so.
Robert Zimmerman has earned a reputation for his outspoken interviews. After the verdict, for example,
he went on CNN and suggested that Martin was looking to get a gun and grow marijuana. During the case,
he was a font of unswerving on-air support.
So, when Fox spoke with him by phone shortly after the president's speech, they likely expected something
other than what they got. In question after question, Colby tried to elicit some combativeness, some critique
of the speech. And in answer after answer, he didn't rise to the bait.

Subject: self defense
While walking home down the side walk at 12:30 a m 1/1/64 I was approached from behind
by a man who accused me of ,earlier in evening, vandalizing his christmas decorations.
I told him to go away, I never set foot on his propertY He continued to follow me and insisted
I go with him to call the police. I told him to GTFAFM. I turned to walk away and he grabbed
my jacket and spun me around and flashed a knife in my face. Being the kind of guy I am
I delivered a knock out punch and broke his jaw and glasses. I had neutralized the idiot and
was merrily on my way home when several cruisers with lights flashing surrounded me and
arrested me for second degree assault because I hurt the guy bad, with one punch.
I was 16, he was 26. You were an adult at 16 in NY back in the day.
I was convicted in that juristiction, I was from outside that juristiction.
On appeal the county court threw it out and said I should never have been charged as this was a clear
case of self defence, he pulled out a knife, I was unarmed. The only difference between Travon Martin
and me is that I knocked my would be assailant out with one punch and was able to take off.
Had I not done that and continued to fight and been slain, I believe he would have been acquitted too.

Hi Bart - Those women were among the estimated one million people who stood beside the tracks and
paid their respects as Robert Kennedy's funeral train took him from New York to his final resting place
in Arlington after his assassination in Los Angeles in 1968. When I saw this I teared up recalling the emotion
of the time and have felt similarly moved watching newsreel footage of the throngs of Americans paying
respects to the funeral train of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Try imagining any of our current Washington roster garnering an iota of that bygone expression of genuine grief.
This was probably the last politician who was able to inspire the country and foster real hope(props to Obama
for great campaigns but he has yet to rise to the occasion). RFK held out the promise of racial reconciliation
after the riots following Martin Luther King's assassination and would have ended the Vietnam War years
earlier than the duplicitous Nixon.
I know Reagan also inspired a great amount of trackside tribute but I submit the planets were lined up
all wrong that day and it shouldn't be held against the poor deluded folks. They thought he was a good guy
because he smiled nice and said "Aw shucks" or something. Their grandparents made P.T. Barnum rich
and they are are keeping the Tea Party gravy train rolling today.
