Astrocat
Presents The First Auroras of the Season
It's starting to get dark in
Fairbanks, saw stars for the first time this summer on August the 14th.
We had clear skies tonight and the
aurora data looked somewhat promising - KP index of 4
and a solar wind speed of 663 kilometers per second - so I took a drive
up to Ester Dome
about 11:30 and waited until about 1:30 and didn't see a thing,
absolutely nothing.
Started driving home disappointed
and then all of a sudden they finally came out, bright,
overhead and moving fast, so I just pulled over on the side of the road
and took these shots.
Lasted about 30 minutes, wish I would have brought my new fisheye lens
with.
Astrocat, thanks - you do good
work.
Yes, keep that fish-eye
lens in your car :)
