Lugar
gets Teabagged
He flip-flops on spending cuts
Link
Once upon a time, Dick Lugar proudly said he wasn't going to be bullied
by the
GOP's teahadist wing. He even said he'd oppose the House GOP's spending
cut bill.
Then he got a teahadist challenger.
And now he's flip-flopped on the GOP's spending cut package:
Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), who faces a Tea Party-backed challenge in
his 2012 primary,
has withdrawn his stated opposition to House-passed spending
cuts. Lugar said Tuesday
that he made a mistake when he told reporters earlier in the day that
he would oppose
H.R. 1, the House GOP plan to cut an additional $57 billion from the
2011 budget.
"I’m going to vote with the Republicans on the issue when H.R. 1 comes
up,” Lugar said.
"If it’s strictly an affirmative vote, I will be for H.R. 1 because all
the Republicans will be voting for H.R. 1.”
Welcome to Orrin Hatch's world, Senator Lugar.
What it lacks in principle, it more than makes up for with the sweet
smell of desperation.
I
hate to see this, but I also know power is more addictive than cocaine.
Lugar stood with Clinton a time or two and he's stood with Obama on
occasion but he'd
rather blow Rush Limbaugh in Times Square at high noon than lose his
precious senate seat.
It reminds me of the joke Letterman told when we saw him live:
There was a movement years ago to nickname the Interstate Loop around
Indianapolis
"The David Letterman Memorial Highway" and Dave said he was flattered
that people
might say, "I
took The Dave to work."
But the Loop eventually was called "The Richard Lugar Memorial Highway"
so now you
might hear, "If
you need to get to the airport in a hurry, just hop on The Dick."
How sad that Luger has "Hopped on the Teabaggers."
