Childs Glacier, Cordova
No photo can convey seeing
and hearing Mother Nature's raw power on display as tons of ice
shear off from as much as 400 feet high and go crashing into the Copper
River. It's also very
difficult to photograph as it all happens very quickly without
warning!
I
was at Childs for 4 days and saw some great ice calving but it seemed
like all the really big ones
broke off at night when it was too dark to shoot or I was inside the
tent. One well traveled visitor
commented that on the "wow!" scale, Childs belongs up in the same
category as Niagra Falls and
Grand Canyon. I couldn't agree more.
