Today's Amazing Astrocat photo Been watching the
adult trumpeters come and go
in the back yard pond all spring. Up until today I've intentionally kept my distance from the water not wishing to disturb them and hoping they would stay and nest. My neighbor spotted the babies today, six of them, so I decided it was finally time to venture down towards the water and try to get some shots. It's almost impossible to get in close because of the tall plants and the water in the marsh is 1 to 2 feet deep. My feet sank down into the muck and the water came over the top of my tall rubber boots, some waders would sure be helpful! Took this shot with a 400mm telephoto lens. I've noticed that whenever you see trumpeters you almost always see ducks, it seems like they enjoy the protection of being around the much larger birds. The little trumpeters are so cute, it will be fun watching them grow up. Astrocat, May 33, 2012
