Reason is Faith's Wrecking Ball

There is no interaction between science, faith and reason.

I have yet to fly on a faith-based aircraft or lived in a faith based house and never will.
Senator Brownback need not worry about a wedge between faith and reason.
Reason is the wrecking ball against the facade of faith.

Senator Brownback states "faith seeks to purify reason". Is this the same kind of purification
that was visited on untold non-believers throughout the ages? Senator Brownback states
"faith - not science - can help us understand the breadth of human suffering or the depth of human love."

In reality, it has been faith that has been a major cause of human suffering and has limited the depth of
human love. For example, the division of India/Pakistan and homosexuality. The faith-based want
"god's love" and will do whatever needs to be done to get it ie The Iraq War. Senator Brownback
is right that we are unique but, we are also the product of random mutations.  Mankind is not lessen
by this fact as the senator believes. Senator Brownback states " the process of creation-and indeed
life today-is sustained by the hand of God".

Again, I have yet to buy food at a faith-based grocery store. I guess the billion people in the world
without clean drinking water are just suffering from a lack of faith as opposed  to science and technology
that I am exposed to.  Senator Brownback states "I firmly believe that each human person, regardless
of circumstance, was willed into being and made for a purpose.".  I guess the senator wasn't upset
about 9-11 since "god" willed the hijackers into being and they were made for the purpose of destroying
buildings and killing almost 3000 people in the process. Of course, the hijackers were people of faith.

I guess this is how faith will purify reason. This op-ed was just a sad, desperate attempt to marry
reality with fanstay. The truth of the matter is religion, in general is dying.  The more educated people
become, the less that religion is needed. This fairy tale will be dead one day. That will be okay and
then maybe we can start taking about the real issues.
