Climate change

Did you know that runaway global warming could quickly kill half of the species on Earth?
This is no conspiracy theory -- the precise mechanism is a bit speculative, but it's based on hard science.

Picture this: If we pump enough C02 into the air, we will create large anoxic regions in the oceans
(areas with no oxygen in the water) and promote the growth of sulfur-spewing bacteria.

Sulfur? Yes. They will belch a bunch of hydrogen sulfide into the air and water, which is highly toxic
to complex life like us humans. When this has happened in the past, 30-50% of all species on Earth died.

Here's a Scientific American article on the subject:

In 1750, we had 280 parts per million (ppm) of carbon dioxide in the air. Right now we have 383 ppm.
Estimates for the year 2100 range from 541 to 970 ppm. An anoxic event can be triggered at around 1000 ppm.

I'm a lot more worried about this than I am about 'the scourge of Islamic extremism'.

Remember on the original Star Trek, when they had a problem with
their oxygen supply or extreme temperatures or whatever, they called it "life support."

Isn't global warming the same thing?
On several episodes, the hull would heat up and they knew their lives were in danger.
Our hull is heating up but the GOP says that's not a problem.

Maybe we should change the talk of ""climate change" and "global warming"
to "Life support for the planet Earth."

I think even Jim Inhofe (R-Pissquik) would have trouble voting against "life support."
