BC,
You asked me to give you a rundown on what
my $80 bucks worth of advertising was worth on BartCop.com.
I've been on vacation recently and didn't
follow up until now. Rather than give you a general feel how it went,
I'll give you the raw stats.
Background:
I started my blog in January of 2003.
Originally I didn't tell anyone about it because I wasn't sure if i would
stick
with it or was just trying to get my anti-GOP
frustration out. After a few months I started to tell a few friends
it was online.
That's been all of the advertising I've
ever done - and it garnered me a dozen regular readers. That was
fine with me.
But when you said that you needed money
to make the transition to BC Radio i thought why not throw BC a few dinero
and see if anybody else cares what I write?
With just a few days of Bartcop.com advertising
(and just a small ad) I went from about 150 unique readers per month
to almost 2000 (and there is still a week
to go in August). (This was written
8/25.)
For the one week that you ran my ads, readership
jumped from about 25 per week to over 1,000 (and these are UNIQUE hits).
Mid way through the next week you stopped
running my ads and I went on vacation and didn't update my content causing
my readership to drop off (or maybe they
took one look and decided it wasn't worth returning!).
I tend to think it was my lack of updating
the site while on vacation. As you can see from the daily stats,
Bartcop.com
was driving viewers STEADILY to my site.
The next week, without any BC advertising and site updates, I was back
to my usual readership of about a dozen
readers. Over the weekend you ran an ad (gratis - thank you!) that
was
immediately reflected in hits to my site
(see the last 3 lines of the following chart). That shows that you
don't get as
much readership on the weekends (but you
knew that already).
While the volumes were talking are not going
to put you into competition with Yahoo!, it's priced right for a small
(I mean REALLY small) website like mine.
It made a significant difference in my readership (and I even got some
stalker mail!). Anytime I can help
support your advertising efforts at BartCop.com, let me know. It
worked for me!
Dennis K. C
Sr. Information Systems Officer
Dennis, it was nice of you to spend the time compiling that - thanks.
Reminder: One big reason we started running ads was because
nobody sold small packages.
TheNation.com, Salon.com and rollingstone.com
all want a minimum of $1000.
Buzzflash.com and MediaWhoresOnline.com
don't accept ads - so people have nowhere to go.
You can buy ads at bartcop.com for as little
as $40.
