Quite a coincidence the state in play would be Florida, home
to Governor Jethro Shrub.
I'm thinking we should abandon the short game in favor of longer
term goals.
Example:
Let Shrub take the electoral win. He's an instant lame duck elected
by
a quirk and better he wears that albatross than Gore. This keeps
Lieberman in
the Senate (who won handily last night and is good for another
six years). The GOP
controls the Senate by two seats and you may be aware Thurmond
and Helmsare
both reported to be in poor health. Not to be ghoulish, but it
is a consideration.
The questions about election fraud, Shrub's DUI's and misrepresentations
on his jury
duty about his arrest record get a chance to fester. Are you
aware there's a chance
his inauguration might be delayed until a court decides if he
committed felonious perjury
on a Texas jury duty form in 1998? And don't forget there's also
the question if
Cheney is in fact a Texas resident and they broke the constitutional
requirement
that Prez and Veep be from different states. Add in his military
records recently
becoming lost, and there's plenty of fodder for speculation if
he's fit to hold office.
Let's say the economy cools during his first two years. Not out
of the
question, as the pendulum is due for a swing. All the bullshit
about playing the
market with social security, projected surpluses and reducing
taxes for the rich
instead of paying down the debt go bye-bye. Could put the Democrats
in very
good shape come the 2002 Congressional races. The GOP can preach
all they
want about moral leadership, but if the economy tanks the voters
will think of
lecherous ol' Bill Clinton as "The Good Old Days".
Let's say the majority in both Houses changes. Wham! The investigations
begin, and all the questions that have been simmering for two
years come to a
boil. Say what you want, but Democrats do make better lawyers
(ask
Nixon) and Shrub might be stupid enough to go for the pardon
switch like his
daddy did on December 24th of 1992 in the Iran / Contra affair.
If it plays out,
the Democrats hold both houses and Shrub hits the bricks as the
mistake between
Clinton and Clinton.
How's that for enough to make a Flying Monkey break a cold sweat?
One of the loose cannons in all this is the corporate media.
They wanted a close race
(over a BILLION dollars reportedly spent on TV ads, figure it
out) and they damn sure
gave us one. How in the hell the joke from Texas got this far
is beyond me,
but four years of Shrub in the Oval Office should make the point
we were conned.
