Sir Paul McCartney reportedly only agreed
to perform at the Live 8 concert
in London on Saturday after organizers
agreed to let him open and close the charity extravaganza.
The former Beatle insisted on being top
of the bill and told Sir Bob Geldof he would "think seriously"
about taking part, if not granted his requests,
according to reports.
McCartney will open the gig with "Sergeant's
Pepper's" - reworded to praise Geldof's achievements
-- and end it with "Long and Winding Road."
Organizers were left with a tricky diplomatic
job appeasing the top acts performing in London --
U2 star Bono was determined to get his
fair share of the limelight, and will be allowed to share the stage
with McCartney to duet on the opening track.
A Live 8 source said, "Some of the more
fragile egos are upset. Bono, in particular, was quick to
demand a share of the opening number and
sees what he was done politically over the years as a
bit more relevant to Live 8 than what Paul
has to offer.
"These are the biggest rock stars around. Whatever order they sing in there is going to be friction."
A spokesperson for McCartney says, "Bob
asked him if he would do it and he is delighted
to be taking part in such an important
event."

HOTEL PORTER TO SUE CROWE
Russell Crowe is facing a lawsuit from the hotel
porter he injured in New York after settlement talks collapsed.
The suit alleges the star threw a ceramic bowl
at Nestor Estrada after he had hit the clerk in the face with the
telephone from his hotel room, and the prosecution
will present witnesses and video of Crowe's actions.
The New York Whore Daily News reports the bowl
shattered against the wall by Estrada's head and Crowe
then bowed and assumed a martial arts stance
to further intimidate Estrada.
ha ha
I think somebody fell into a can of Fosters.
Crowe has already been charged with assault and
criminal possession of a weapon -- and faces a maximum
sentence of seven
years -- and this personal
lawsuit will seek punitive and compensatory damages when it
is filed at Manhattan Supreme Court.
Estrada sustained a gash to his face in the attack
-- and Crowe's numerous apologies during a series TV
interviews have failed to appease Estrada.
Seven years?
You can commit second-degree
murder and get out in less than four years...
This is a handjob all the way around.
We all saw this guy's "injury."
It was a scratch on the cheekbone, but since Crowe
is rich and (probably) guilty, this turns into big circus.
You watch, this guy will show up in court in
a neckbrace and on a stretcher with an IV in each arm
Hey Paula, here's $10,000 and a banana for your
monkey - can we drop the subject now?
