I got up early, thought I'd tackle some mail while the house was
quiet.
A few minutes later she says, "So where
are you taking me for breakfast?"
Married men know that tone of voice.
The one where there are no options, none at all.
Knowing that all battles can't be won, and choosing which ones
to fight is important,
I decided to go with the flow and be the nice guy.
"Whichever place you'd like to go, Schnookems,"
I replied.
She decided on Betty Anne's restaurant on Memorial Drive in K-Drag.
It's a throwback to the Route 66 Diners on the way to LA or Las
Vegas.
They do everything right.
The bacon is extra-red, not sure how they do that. The
pancakes are tasty (I wish I could've
brought my Northern Comfort Pride of the Northeast Kingdom
Maple Syrup)
The hash browns were just like I like 'em, and the sausage was
sensational,
especially when followed by the chocolate milk.
Yum.
No, nobody comes to Tulsa, but lots of people drive thru Tulsa
on their way to a decent destination.
If you find yourself driving thru Tulsa some morning, remember
this map.
Hiway
66 is actually I-44
As long as we're on the subject, the best burger since BartCop's
now-closed
Train Station flamed-kissed steakburgers is at Goldie's Restaurant
all over Tulsa.
The original is at 51 & Lewis, right next
to I-44
They have a secret ingredient, a combination of seasoned salt
and a soy product called Maggi's.
Don't laugh, it's the best burger you can find. Look for
it near soy sauce at big grovery stores.
So if you find yourself trying to escape Tulsa and it's too late
for breakfast, try the Goldie's.
Tulsa needs a Krispie Kreme, a White Castle, a Ted Drewes
a Steak n Shake and above all, an Imo's Pizza!
