My Brush with Greatness
Hey Bart,
In the late 1960’s my parents took me with them to Mexico City to a
Democratic National Leaders conference.
At one luncheon my mom pointed out an older woman, elegantly attired
and heavily made-up, who turned out to be Joan Crawford.
After Mexico City we went to Puerto Vallarta. At the time there
was only one phone in the town,
and everybody wanted to see where Night
of the Iguana had recently been filmed, starring Richard Burton.
Shortly after we arrived in Puerto Vallarta, my parents and I met a
delightful Californian couple. The intelligent
and very witty gentleman told us he was an actor. Because we
didn’t watch a lot of television at the time,
we didn’t recognize his name or the name of his series. We spent
a number of days running around town
with him and his lovely wife. They could not have been nicer
people.
Later, when we returned home to Seattle we realized that the unassuming
and marvelous gentleman
was THE Harry Morgan of Dragnet…..
