My Brush with Greatness
I was on vacation with
my parents.
We didn’t have much money, so we just went to a motel about an hour
from home (Middletown, NY).
This might’ve been around 1968.
For some bizarre reason, Mickey Mantle
was signing autographs at the local department store.
My father, who played for the Yankee’s farm team in the early 30’s, was
beside himself with excitement.
We went to the store, the line was pretty short. I got the Mick’s
auto for $5.00.
Still have it somewhere in the house.
