Subject: Search engine?
BC,
Once again (today) you were trying to remember
something from a previous issue and
lamenting your lack of staff. It seems
to me that you need to add a Bartcop search engine to your site.
I know it'd be a big help to your readers trying
to track down info.
Speaking of which, if you had such a set up, my
first search would be for this:
A long while ago (like a year or so) you mentioned
a video you's seen (or owned?)
of some guy at a party who was an ace guitarist,
but hadn't played in years.
Someone handed him an ax and he pulled out some
dazzling tricks.....does this ring a bell?
Man, I'd love to get a copy 'o that one!
JK
JK, a search engine would be great!
The one on the back issues page is pretty lame.
If anyone knows of a GOOD search engine I can install, please send
it.
Yeah, that guitar player is waaaay past fantastic. When I tried
to talk about him,
I was flooded with mail saying no matter how good he is, there's
no
way he could
possibly be half as good as the late Danny Gatton, so
I dropped it.
When the best touring band "Akasha" came thru K-Drag, we had them over
to the house.
their guitar player, Austin's Rick del Castillo is so good, whenever
they came to town
every guitar player in the city showed up to be impressed - and was.
After the gig, Rick asked if this guy "Scott" could come to the afterparty
- I said "Sure,"
He said "Scott can teach me a whole lot about
guitar," which was a stunning statement.
Sure enough, I set up a camcorder, pointed it at his frets and this
guy did stuff that can't be done.
It was strange to see the best guitar player I'd ever met say,
"Goddamn, do that again,"
time after time and I was really lucky to get it on tape.
I've seen hundreds of guitar players up-close,
but I never saw one with hands like this guy.
His left hand floated above the strings, and his fingers
would drop down when he wanted to hit certain notes.
The other guitar players were damn, damn impressed.
Somebody knows Rick del Castillo in Austin, right?
I imagine he's the best guitar player in Austin - and that's saying
something.
Ask him about "The Dreaded Scott" that played for him
in Ol' BartCop's back bedroom in Tulsa one night after a gig.
For you Austinites: Rick del Castillo is playing Momo's club Tuesday.
But JK, the actual tape has "frank party talk" on it.
Maybe I can edit some acceptable footage together :)
