Subject: can't
get away from guns
I was offended by the segment concerning the Kerry
sign vs the Bush sign in the yard.
A non-gun advocate - who chooses NOT to use a
gun even at the risk of personal loss or injury - is a
person of stronger character than someone who
sinks to the level of hiding behind a gun to settle differences.
You could be right, but the question isn't, "Who
has more character?"
The question is,
"Can you defend your family if trouble happens?"
Gandhi, Thoreau, Christ (the Cloud?), Socrates,
Lincoln, M.L.King...not a group of weak people
...and a group I'd rather dine with than Heston,
Nugent, Reagan, Bush - and now you.
You could be right there, too, but the question
wasn't, "Who would you rather dine with?"
Just because there are people in this world who
do employ guns as a means to infringe on the liberties
of others - including the ultimate liberty of
life - does not mean we should bale on the ideal that a society
can and should be built on peace and all that
entails - and not skimp on that ideal when the going gets tough
with the excuse of "self preservation".
Self preservation is "an excuse?"
I think there's a difference between a philosophical
goal and the nuts and bolts of staying alive.
Because of this philosophy that you and so many
others like you adhere to - the outdated "eye-for-an-eye"
You seem to think I stalk the weak at night with
my Glock.
This isn't about revenge.
It's about eliminating dangers inside your home.
- we live in the most violent society. It is,
in fact, embedded in our culture.
My goal is to un-embed it - first from myself,
then from my household, and finally, from my society.
I applaud that goal - once my family is safe.
Secondly, to suggest Kerry and those who supported
him as being weak because of his stance on guns
- what is that? - no AK's?
I don't remember saying that.
I remember syaing his hunting photo op was a
disaster.
It looked more fake than the wooden duck caller.
- is little more than the slander he had to put
up with during the Swift Boat Campaign that belittled his
commitment to his country when called.
While I don't believe I insulted you with my email as you contend,
I believe you insulted John Kerry and the people
who support this man with your bombastic correlation.
Clearly, you're a more forgiving person than me.
When Kerry refused to fight, he had to know he
was giving the world over for those oil jackals
to devour it. His 2004 campaign was the worst I've ever seen.
I can forgive him for losing, but I can't forgive
him for quitting and neither should you.
Finally, I do want to let you know that my wife
and I commend you for a great job on the web-site - my picture
was actually featured there the Monday after
the rally. I was the guy flashing peace-signs while sitting between
two of your signs. Those signs are proudly displayed
in our house - for which we are grateful. But I must add here
that the negativity toward our side concerning
the gun issue is a little annoying and, in my mind, sullies an otherwise
respectable campaign for the Good Guys.
Again - thank you for your thoughts and obvious
hard work.
Bob
Bob, we can disagree on guns and still agree on the majority of the
issues but...
I think you need to reconsider the options to protect your family if
the unlikely happens.
I'm reminded of Bart's
Law #3
Do not lay down
in front of a bulldozer or a train or become a human shield.
From my perspective, you want to stop the violence train, and I do,
too.
But I think laying down on the tracks to try to stop that train is
a bad idea..
Maybe my gun talk came off too macho, but the truth is
I hardly ever touch the Glock.
It just sits there in our child-free home.
I'm only going to use it if there's a life & death situation.
Lastly - many voters see Democrats as the "I'd
rather die than use a gun" party.
It might've been the single biggest reason Bush "won" in 2004, ...and
you
said it was unfair to tag
legitimate war hero John Kerry with being anti-gun, so let's not confirm
those voters suspicions, OK?
Still your friend...
