Hillary:
UN no-fly zone requires bombing Libya
She's failing to make herself clear
Link
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary
Rodham Clinton said Thursday that a U.N. no-fly zone over Libya
would require bombing targets inside the country to reduce the threat
posed by Moammar Gadhafi's forces.
Her assessment made clear the risk of possible military intervention as
world powers consider broader
steps to protect civilians and pressure the Libyan leader.
"A no-fly zone requires certain actions taken to protect the planes and
the pilots, including bombing targets
like the Libyan defense systems," Clinton said as she neared the end of
a Middle East trip dominated by
worries about Libya, where a rebel offensive is apparently flagging.
She's
not choosing her words carefully - and isn't that a diplomat's top job?
Perhaps her boss is writing her scripts?
On 9-11, did al Qaeda take out our defense systems before they attacked?
No, they just attacked and they caused a shipload of damage.
Different missions, I get that, but I smell a stall here.
How will Libya's defense systems prevent our F-18 fired missles
from taking down distant Libyan jets?
It's my understanding they've asked the UN for permission (weakness) to
act, and if/when they
give that, why do we have to take action other than pulling Gadhaffy's
planes out of the sky?
