What is today's History Mystery?

  What's up with this ad?

Are they appealing to Blacks to go back to the 'good old days?"
If only life was simple, like in
the 'good old days?"

What year would you say this was produced - and to be shown in what cities?
Is this a Montgomery, AL 1960 ad for Bull Durham tobacco?
Is this a still from a movie clip, or a page from LIFE Magazine?

I guess everything depends on the year.

Taken at face value, is she a farm owner or a slave?
Could slaves afford to buy tobacco?
Or maybe she's the proprietress of that shop?

Did Bull Durham make a white tobacco and a negro tobacco?
Or were they saying both "races" should smoke the same tobacco?

What was going thru their minds when they produced this ad?
