Who should John Kerry pick for his VP?

Edwards -because people across the country already know him,
the press has already questioned him, and he can speak

Henry N

Wesley Clark.

Two real military heroes against the traitorous deserter and ol' five-deferments?
Okay, the BFEE will still tell lies about how they hid out in Vietnam while Shrub was
risking life and limb by flying F-104s with a hangover and a snootful of Peruvian marching powder.

--jmowreader

john mccain.

hear me out -- they disagree on a lot of things:  abortion, taxes, welfare.
but americans are also evenly divided on these issues.
only a bi-partisan ticket like this could reunite us.
they are both honest, straight shooting people who cannot be bought and have been through hell.
together, they would make bush look like an extra big monkey in november.

plus, a republican defector?  that seals the deal for the kerry ticket.
Andrew R

Edwards would make a great VP.
He has the charisma that Kerry is sadly lacking.
He also displays the optimism that Kerry needs to take advantage of shrub's horrible numbers.

John P

Edwards - even though he's a little bit slick, he does connect,
he can go on the offensive, he's smart, and he's a southerner.

Elaine

you know, bart, since I voted for Dennis Kucinich in the first place and since
I think he's the most honest of 'em all, my pick is Dennis. He's got the right ideas,
he does what he says he will, he's a progressive in the true sense of the word,
and he's actually a nice person.

there's lots more but you said to keep it short.

love you, bart

ducks

Bart,

It has to be Hillary!
Get the women's vote, the liberals, most moderates and leave the GOP to the racist,
fascist bastards that they are. 8 years of Kerry and 8 more of the Clinton Administration.

That would be 16 years of healing, peace and prosperity. JFK & HRC!

Wolf

I would pick Wesley Clark.
That would put the kibosh on the Repugs, several of whom
avoided military service by pulling strings, or some other lame-ass pretext.

Terri D

Ralph Nader

resolves the splintering of the left problem and probably insures that
Kerry won't be assassinated while in office.

ha ha

Plus its a very bold move, not normal for Kerry.

Thanks for asking
Michael E

General Wesley Clark.
It's a Dream Team.

Two capable, seasoned war veterans against the frauds.
It will turn all the Bush fear mongering on its head. Y

ou're afraid? Who are you going to vote for?
Two witless evil traitors, or the two heroes?

Plus I just like Clark.
I think he incredibly intelligent, capable and sane.

Michael S

Kerry should pick someone with nards large enough to fill the republic convention.
McCain might do, though I haven’t seen his nards…

Keep hammerin’

Carlos S

Gore,

Loved that speech he made recently.

Janet

Wes Clark!!!!

Let's see the Repugs TRY to smear him.

Michael R

Kerry should choose Dennis Kucinich for his VP, to provide at least
one voice of reason in the White House, and to make the Evil Ones
think twice before murdering or impeaching Kerry.

John Edwards.
It's all about winning and I think JE can fire some people up.
Remember, all it takes is one more state (even a southern one) to win again.

Ken D

Edwards would not be a terrible choice.
He has that newness to him, and he speaks eloquently.
A lot of people liked him in the primaries.

Bob Graham could help win Florida, which could be huge,
but I think Graham may not have the youth or energy left and
he's very susceptible to the being painted as unstable with his eccentricities.

Gephardt will not excite anybody.

Almost no one would consider Dean, but I think it would be a gutsy choice.
It would say 'yeah, I'm from the northeast - so what?' which often works
better than "I'm from the northeast, but look, I've got a southern running mate!"

Honestly, I like what Dean brings to the table both as a candidate (bringing new
young voters in) and as a VP.  But I don't think there is any way this is going to happen.

Which leaves Clark.  A solid choice.
Clark is terrific and has a way of framing issues that, I think,
has the potential to turn swing voters.  And he fights.
Imagine Clark vs. Cheney.

I know I don't have to convince you, Bart.

Peter F

Howard Dean.

ltonsick

Wes Clark should be Kerry's pick for VP.
If we're gonna have a real war on terrorism, let's get serious.

Ollie in Nuevo Mexico

1. Wes Clark: the Dems need national security to be front and center, and for that they should turn to the
General. Kerry the willing veteran and Clark the NATO Supreme Allied Commander will quell any fears of the
Dems being a bunch of fancy boys. Besides, Clark will clean Cheney's clock.

2. Bill Richardson: foreign policy experience galore and the growing Hispanic population.
Also could clean Cheney's clock.

Nick S

Wesley Clark would add some excitement to the ticket
and some military intelligence to the White House.

Pat C

Without a doubt Wes Clark.
The general will eat Cheney alive in a debate and bring dignity back to the office of VP.

Also I think General Clark will help bring in a lot of those who are the fence,
since the GOP spin machine can’t label him as a life long liberal.
General Clark would bring a much needed breath of fresh air in Washington.

Bart --

Your good friend Dan from West Palm Beach pokerfest here. A few VP calls,
with the pros and cons. Some of this has become conventional wisdom, but what the hey.

John Edwards -- Pro: #2 man in the primary voting, means he solidifies Dem base,
and Southern roots make a bid to catch some of the traditionally Republican Southern vote
(traditionally, at least, in the post-Nixon world).

Con: Dem. base is so pissed at Bush, they don't need solidifying.
Unlike the people they vote for, they're ready to fight. Can't argue with the Southern point, though.
Kerry must make at least some entreaties to the South and Midwest.
The Northeast and the West Coast are already his.

Final Thought: Not a bad idea, but a long primary rivalry (which has given the GOP plenty
of soundbites showing Edwards verbally abusing Kerry) and a close balance in the Senate
(taking away a Dem. Senator from the Senate could ruin our chances of recapturing that
branch of Congress) put the nix on this guy.
 Odds: 5-1

Bill Richardson -- Pro: the New Mexico governor caters to the Latino vote, driving a stake
through the GOP's desperate attempts to get them on board with Smirk. Plus, the Southwest
(excluding highly GOP Utah) is anybody's game right now. Richardson could pick up votes there.
Con: Democratic voters who don't follow state politics and aren't from the Southwest will be
left wondering, "Bill who?"

Final Thought: Bill is popular among traditional DNC (He's the permanent chairperson of the
Democratic National Convention Committee) and moderately leftwing types, including myself.
He destroys the Republican attempt at Latino vote gathering while strengthening the Dems.
in a place where the election will be very close, the battleground states of Arizona and New Mexico.
 Odds: 3-1

Wes Clark -- Pro: Likability, Southern roots, some national recognition as "that war commentator
guy from CNN," and the amazing ability to get both military votes and antiwar votes.
Con: Never been elected, never ran for office, never ... well, you get the idea. He's never.
That sort of inexperience could play hell in debates against a guy like Dick Cheney.
Final Thought: No dice. If Kerry wants to play to the South, he'll tap Edwards.
He relies on himself to get the military vote, and he knows the antiwar vote sure as hell ain't goin' to Bush.
 Odds: 12-1

Howard Dean -- Pro: Deaniacs petulant over the implosion of their candidate will be right back on board.
Con: From the northeast, which is already strongly Kerry. Also, he's been branded a leftwing looney,
particularly among all-important Independent voters. And his campaign's sudden disintegration screams, "loser."
Final Thought: Not in a million freakin' years. Dean is all but done in national elected politics. He'd be great
in an appointed position, though. Maybe Sec. of HHS or something. Although only someone convinced that
years as a country doctor would qualify a man to be Surgeon General would nominate him for that position.
And only a Republican is that dumb, yeah?
 Odds: 50-1

John McCain -- Pro: You've heard of "Reagan Democrats"? This is Kerry's big chance to have some
"Kerry Republicans." Plus, he's from Arizona. And he would pull a Republican out of the Senate,
giving Dems a better chance at a takeover.
 Con: Dude, he's a Republican.
Final Thought: Dude, he's a Republican.
 Odds: 1,000-1

There's plenty of other possibilities of course. But I'm betting Kerry stays away from anyone in the Senate,
particularly in states that aren't strongly Democratic.
Ok,
Dan

Dude, good to hear from you.

BC:

This is an important decision, and will indicate whether Kerry is controlled by the old Dem machine
(a Gephart choice for example), or ready to change and be bold (even Wes Clark, a safe pick,
would at least indicate something a little bold).

I doubt they will go for a woman, and I would be dissappointed if Hillary was picked,
as I find her totally objectionable for many reasons (as I do Feinstein).

Wes Clark is my choice--that would be a dynamic ticket!

Neil in VT

Actually, Howard Dean is the only Democrat that has any balls.
I am a lifelong (70 years) democrat from North Carolina and he is
the only one that can energize enough democrats for Kerry to win.

Once the NRA start their campaign against Kerry you will see.

Ann Richards - D-Texas

Imagine bush*s old nemesis debating crashcart!
How're they gonna attack a REAL Texan?

(By calling her a lesbian - again)

From:  http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/governors/modern/page3.html

Born: Dorothy Ann Willis was born September 1, 1933, in Lakeview, Texas

Born: george w bush; July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut

Pros
It may or may not put Texas in play, but it would cause bush*co to spend money there.
It puts a "southerner" on the ticket.  And solidifies the vote of the "better half".

Cons
She's 70 - pukes will do the age thing

JB

I think John Edwards would be the best choice for Kerry's VP running mate

Paul T

Wesley Clark.
Good example of military leadership and proof that to respect and admire
the military one does not have to follow the ideology of the neocons.
A Democrat is just as able and dedicated in leading our fighting men and women.

Eliot Spitzer - run on "Clean Up Government" and restore US image.

Dear Bartcop  - I know you can make arguments for the Gov.s of Iowa, Pennsylvania
- as well as Rep Gephardt - swing states and all.  But I think the two most basic issues
are foreign relations - which means Wesley Clark - and the economy - which means Sen. Edwards.

This is going to sound like shameless sucking up to the host - but after due consideration,
I would choose Wesley Clark.  I know the argument can be made "it's the economy, stupid"
- but aside from getting our allies back, Bart - I agree with you that even if Diebold can't
steal the election for the Shrub, God will tell him not to come out of the WH.
That means a close working relationship between Kerry and the General is a must.
God help us, we could be headed for Civil War II.

Say, I'll bet that bottle of Souza silver I drink doesn't count for much around your shop, huh, Bart?
Next trip to the liquor store I will definitely look for the Chinaco Anejo - and save it in hopes of
a.) - there being an election this November  and
b.) despite Diebold's best efforts, we win this darn thing.

Heck, if we don't it's only Fascism and Dark Age II - no big deal.

Keep hammering, Bart
Russ H

Russ, we use Souza in margaritas

Hillary Clinton!

RC

He should pick BigDawg himself, bill clinton.
That team would win by a landslide.

Of course, it wouldn't matter because the DNC would just "F" the two of them.
But it would be a fun couple of days.

This VP selection shouldn't be a member of Congress or a Governor that
would otherwise be in office after Kerry is elected.  With things as close as
they are, we need every Democrat, with as much experience in offce, as possible.

That being said, we need someone that will bring votes to the ticket and either
secure states or put Republican states in play.  I'd say go with Ann Richards.

She'd help secure votes with women and probably in the south too.
As a bonus she'd put Texas in play and force Whistle Ass to spend some  of his millions there.
Wouldn't it be sweet revenge for her to help kick out Failure-in-Chief Bush of the White House?

RJ H

john edwards - he is bright, telegenic, and
(like john kerry) speaks in complete sentences.

Wesley Clark.

He is a fighter and a man who is not willing to let things slide.
He is also honest without alarming anybody.

Plus Kerry could use the help.

How about Ralph Nader?
It would be one way to keep him from giving Bush another shot at stealing your election.
