Subject: Trip Report
I arrived late Friday, got my room at the Palms,
and immediately crashed.
I wanted to be very awake for the festivities
to come on the morrow. A hearty
buffet breakfast at the Fantasy Market Buffet
and a little sightseeing prepared me,
body and soul, for what was to come.
I should add that I was a little bit nervous about
this whole business at the outset.
I've had negative experiences with political
groups before, and I feared I might
encounter a rigidity of thinking. But that
proved not to be the case.
Ideas and critiques were freely offered and accepted.
Never have I felt so at home! But I'm getting
ahead of myself.
I made it to the Fantasy Towers early, so I sat
and chatted with another
Bartcopper (easily identified by his WPE shirt).
It was the first of many
great discussions I had that evening.
The poker was fun. But quick, for me.
Went out on pocket nines.
But it was about time for a smoke break anyway...
The tequila class was the highlight of the evening.
It was somewhat chaotic, but so good-naturedly
so, I find myself wondering if
we hadn't captured some of the feel of the great
speakeasies of the twenties.
At one point, I set aside my shotglass to fill
a dixie cup with water.
Bart, passing by with his cruet, asked after
the location of my shotglass.
Before I could mumble out anything resembling
a coherent explanation,
Bart started pouring into the dixie cup (which
had been drained of the tap water).
I smiled, and proceeding to continue sippin'!
When I returned to the Great State of Washington,
I acquired a bottle of the Herradura.
My wife, a fan of rum, was skeptical, but agreed
to try the elixir. She lit up, and expressed
surprise that tequila could taste so good!
(Wait'll I find that liquor store in Snohomish
I heard about that sells the Chinaco...)
Great discussions about the importance of unions,
why Reality is a great life choice,
quantum computing, and many other weighty topics
punctuated the night. Every
conversation encouraged a warm glow that was
only brightened by the fruit of the blue agave.
This was billed as the Party of the Decade.
It lived up to that high standard.
Thanks, Bart! And thanks everyone who made
it such a great evening!
