Now that there's some snow
on the corn fields and it's getting colder the swans are beginning
to return to open water - and free food - on the Mississippi River at
Swan Park, in Minnesota.
Saw
about 50 to 75 today, soon there should be hundreds. In 1986, the Swan
Lady of Monticello
was feeding ducks and geese from her backyard when a few trumpeter
swans started showing up.
24
years later, there are now upwards of 1,500 to 2,000 trumpeter swans
during the winter months.
Sheila Lawrence, the Swan Lady, died in April 2011, her husband
continues to feed all the birds.
The birds are fed 1,500 pounds of corn per day.
